BACKSTORY: ROBOCOP - 1987
(2002 / VAN NESS - FOX STAR - PROMETHEUS / 21 mins. total)
Dir. by - Stacey Dowdy
Ex. Prod. - Kevin Burns
Narr. - Rino Romano
Director Paul Verhoeven, writers Ed Neumeier & Michael Miner, producer Jon Davison, and stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen and Miquel Ferrer look back on the original classic sci fi / social satire / actioner which many consider the progenitor of the modern comic book film as well as inspiration for the more adult graphic novels of Alan Moore, Frank Miller and others.

This movie was a great satire of the time, perhaps now it's even more relevant. Corporate powers, post humanist agendas, police state, a dystopian future. All to real now.

Exactly. I think they missed an opportunity with the Joel Kinnaman re-make . Maybe not a Robocop 4 but some kind of Reboot maybe; I dunno? And you can see they sort of tried with Robocop 3 but sadly not hard enough. I haven’t really seen much of the Robocop TV shows.
@U2QuoZepplin
@U2QuoZepplin 4 года назад
Maybe they should try another reboot but this time make it a lot closer to the original. I don’t know how many Paul Verhooven type director’s there are out there though? Unfortunately I think it needs a director a lot more of Verhooven’s ilk to get the balance of shocking violence and satirical humour right.

I love it how Murphy doesn’t scream or cry out when he takes the first bullet in his right hand. And then he turns back to Bodicker’s gang and they continue blowing his right arm off , and that’s when he starts screaming? It kinda shows you the strength of character of Murphy and why he was so perfect for the Robocop program of Bob Morton.

That's called shock. It affects everyone strangely. A lot of trauma patients either can't remember the original injury or don't remember feeling any pain until the shock wore off.

At 5:57, is that a version of the suit that took inspiration from Judge Dredd or was that an unused idea for a Dredd movie that wasn't made?
@U2QuoZepplin
@U2QuoZepplin 4 года назад
John Prudent I don’t know 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♀️ maybe it was a previous attempt at making a Judge Dread / “ 2000 AD,” movie which didn’t really get too far past the first hurdle of the concept art? Something before the Stallone or Karl Urban versions?

Stephanie Zimbalist would’ve probably been great in the role of Officer Anne Lewis it’s a little tough thinking of her with the boyish haircut they gave to Nancy Allen but both are seasoned and competent actresses. So I’m sure they would’ve worked something out.

They forgot to mention the bit were Ed Neumeier tried to buy the rights to comic character Judge Dredd in the early 80's and realised someone else had them so decided to take those ideas and make RoboCop instead.

haha,,. on the remake they made the mistake of putting a bulky guy on a robot costume, making it look ridiculous. The classic prevented that by hiring a skinny actor! just one more reason to admire the original
@U2QuoZepplin

True but Robocop and Blade Runner are such completely different movies, probably due to Verhoven's directing it , it is too easy to lose the philosophical meaning of the movie.

Calling Blade Runner, a movie about "a cop who kills robots," is sort of over simplifying things a little too far, I think. We're talking about one of the best Sci-fi movies ever made. I think you can afford it a little more explanation than that. It's so much more than a movie about a cop who kills robots.
@ToyKingWonder
@ToyKingWonder 4 года назад
And they were not robots. That was the sad thing about it.
@U2QuoZepplin
@U2QuoZepplin 4 года назад
ToyKingWonder the scary thing about it is “Replicants,” aren’t robots 🤖 at all. The whole point was that they are almost indistinguishable from humans. 😳😬😱Unlike Robocop, I think Bladerunner was an intelligent 🤓 movie hiding behind an intelligent 🤓 movie. Specially with Rutger Hauer’s little “time to die, /tears in the rain,” monologue at the end. Robocop is more like an intelligent thought 💭 provoking movie hiding behind a dumb take your brain 🧠 out kind of all action guns and violence movie.
@U2QuoZepplin
@U2QuoZepplin 4 года назад
ToyKingWonder it’s like one of the guys says , Schwarzenegger or Stallone weren’t right for this one. For starters it required a certain degree of emotion from the lead actor. I’m not sure the usual chorus line of action movie stars were quite up to that kind of thing. More to the point , they would have to be a certain size and build to fit in the Robocop costume.
