G. Rap was probably the first NY rapper I seen do collaborations with rappers from other regions. His song Two to the Head from his '91 Live and Let Die album featured Ice Cube, Scarface and Bushwick Bill. I know Cube featured Chuck D. and Big Daddy Kane on his debut album in '90, but that was Cube going to them for his joint. G. Rap had those guys on his album.

The south really didn't have great music in the 90's....a lot of that shit was non-lyrical and exploited ghetto life. New York was a lot more balanced and mature lyrically and subject wise. The south strictly did ghetto nigga music with the exception of Organized Noise. New York had rappers that were street, comedic, conscious, everyday guy, middle class, educated, artistic...a wide variety. The south just put out stereotypes and buffoonery and its still that way! The west and midwest had more diverse movements which is why the east had more respect and comradery with then.

His intro literally is dissing all hip-hop "backpack" that's black moon but he has Buckshot on his show. Go watch who got the props what does buckshot have on. The original pioneers... and I'm talking about the guys who were in Rosedale Park in the West Bronx in '71... came either straight from the Carolinas back in the '50s and '60s or their parents were born and raised there and they moved and had babies that grew up in NY. Disco King Mario is straight from NC. The original B-boy T-Roy has parents from NC and SC. Coke La Rock, who was Herc's MC, has parents from SC. He even still sounds Geechee to me when he talks. MC Sha-Roc of Funky Four Plus One is also from NC. Angie Stone who apart of the first all female rap group called Sequence in '79 is from SC. James Brown is from SC. Pigmeat Markham is from NC.
