@@yuujinner5801 i dont see why not. Pterosaurs are quite extra, it makes sense that they had vibrant colors
@yuujinner5801
@yuujinner5801 3 года назад
@@leonardogrande6144 it makes sense, but not in the context of marine animals. No other marine seabird has had a radical coloring like that. Aboreal pterosaurs could have crazy coloring, but not marine, since having a weird coloring can let their prey know that they are coming, which is disadvantageous compared to the normal countershading that they possess. If some truly did had that color, it must be no more than a mutation, since I see no benefit to the creature.
@leonardogrande6144
@leonardogrande6144 3 года назад
@@yuujinner5801 countershading is very prominent, yes, and nature follows certain patterns when they work in general, but not that simple and limitated. See.. sharks, orcas, seagulls, they all have countershading, but in very differnt ways and some way more subtle than others. But why the two white spots of orcas over they eyes for instance then? That shoun't be there if the rules were as restrained as you say. Then we also have totally white dolphins.. which also should not be a thing if they wanted to camouflage. Also, let's keep in mind that pterosaurs don't have any living descendants, we know very little of their behaviour to assume that much. being unnoticed does't seem to be their way of doing things. And they wouldn't be the only sea animals in that. While most fish also tend to camouflage, we also have others on the opposite side, presenting all kind of colors, almost asking to get eaten, but there they are. Also some sea birds do have vibrant colors .. I woun't dare to assume pterosaurs could not be colorful for many reasons
@yuujinner5801
@yuujinner5801 3 года назад
@@leonardogrande6144 what seabirds have vibrant colors? I do not know of any. Also, since their anatomy is so similar to albatrosses, we can assume that they have had a similar lifestyle as well.
