I've watched the PTL show as a child with my Mother. I saw the sincerity about ministry in Tammy Faye. She was concerned about saving Souls! Jim on the other hand came off as just a Fund raiser. I miss watching the show and miss Tammy Faye!

As of 2019, both Gavin and Patty are 88 years old. She is 13 days older than he is.

For us in California, PTL club always came on at 5 AM in the morning five days a week on KTVU channel 2. From what I remember in every closing, Tammy Faye Bakker would have china dolls for you to order and other things. I didn't start watching this until around 1983 when I was almost 5 years old. I remember watching this when my mother would use to get me ready for preschool Monday through Friday every morning. Thanks for posting this.

It was good to see the MacLeod's share their story. After they got back together, you could see a difference in Gavin's acting on Love Boat. He eas calmer and even friendler. He must have been struggling with a lot to divorce Patti. She didn't lose hope or faith that they would get back together.

PTL set looks more normal and down to earth than the TBN sets. The TBN sets look to rich and wealthy. I do not like the TBN sets.

You can really see here why TBN and PTL split somewhere in 1974. Jim and Tammy wanted a Tonight-show style telecast that is more tangible to viewers, while Paul and Jan always preferred to stick to their evangelistic roots. I've been watching some of the 1980s TBN 'Praise The Lord" recordings, where it was basically Evangelical services on the air, with smatterings of interviews from time to time (some episodes were carried live from massive church crusades). Jim and Tammy, of course, offered a more diverse program than Paul and Jan's, and if it wasn't for Jessica Hahn, I can still imagine PTL running until Tammy's death.

I remember the Love Boat as promoting sexual promiscuity--at least before the Aids Epidemic broke out. I stopped watching it after the earlier episodes because I felt like it did not promote Christian values. But Aids did cause people to change their attitudes about easy casual sex, one night stands, and multiple partners. I don't remember how bad these earlier episodes of Love Boat were, but as a Christian young adult I wanted to stay away from anything that would lead to temptation with the casual sexual lifestyles that were an expectation at that time.

It reminds me of the 700 club. I think it is sad how things went. Tammy Faye died of cancer and really looked awful on Larry King but I hope she really repented. Jim Bakker is preaching again. Hope he repented to. That means admitting what you did wrong which Jim did. I don't know about Tammy. I hope she did.
