PTL Club: Jim and Tammy on Location from Heritage Island 

My husband, 3 children and I were Lifetime Partners and thoroughly enjoyed this Christian themed park! One of the safest, and most fun filled vacation places to visit especially as a family. No alcohol, drugs, profanity or boisterous behavior allowed. So many activities and never a dull moment. We were so blessed to partake of Heritage USA while it lasted. Great memories never fade! God bless all PTL partners for their faith in God!

My brother and I flew there and spent a week at Heritage USA just a few weeks after this broadcast. We came from Chicago, and had a GREAT time. Heritage Island was open, and it was like a DREAM being there. Some of the best memories I've ever had. I purchased a Silver 7000 Lifetime Membership in the Towers, but had to stay in a tent because the towers (obviously) were not done yet. It was fun!

Tammy had a beautiful voice

Jim and Tammy had the most entertaining christian show on TV. Tammy was so joyful, looking at things now and knowing what will happen to them in their future is so sad. I do think Jerry Falwell did a horrible thing to them and caused everyone to loose their investments in Heritage USA ! Jim and Tammy had some short comings and they knew it but they really did not intend to defraud anyone in my opinion. They were just trying to build a bigger and bigger church and park for their members.

Thanks for posting this. I born when all this was going on and have visited the site before and it was just ruins. I wish things had not gone down hill and the place was still going. Love for you to post more. Thanks!

In all seriousness, it's just tragic that this place is a ghost town. I wish I could have gone here. This place seems like it used to be an awesome place to visit. Golly.

This site has been fully developed with real estate and has few remnants of the PTL days. The only thing left abandoned is the Heritage condo tower. The grand hotel is still very much alive and thriving.

I was a silver club member that unfortunately never had the opportunity to use my membership before the whole thing fell apart. Rip Tammy Faye Bakker.

I remember this water park- right down the road from South Carolina's other amusement park, Carowinds. Had to deliver some Honda parts to Heritage USA a few years ago (some people still live there apparently)...was like a ghost town. Felt like I had to make a delivery to Pripyat or something

This was a really cool concept water park. Where it was more of a mountain and the slides built around the slopes rather than slides with steel supports and flat land underneath. I wonder if there was secret passages underneath. It certainly wasn't all solid under the footpaths and slides.

After the fall of PTL/ Heritage USA Vestal Goodman and her husband turn their backs on Tammy Faye when she was hurting. Then Vestal and her husband ends up singing on the Gaither Home Coming projects in the 1990's and beyond while Tammy Faye was hurting and it took until around 2005 to be back on Christian tv. Vestal what you did Tammy Faye is wrong, but slowing forgiving you. Christians should forgive other Christians and not abandon them in their hour of need.

Jim and Tammy were a threat to the establishment in Christian broadcasting…especially Tammy. Jim couldn’t have done it without her charisma.

I know people have historically made fun of Tammy Faye for her makeup, but people forget she had a tight little foxy bod.

It looked like such a nice place. There was no need for the scandal. Jim could have repented and never assigned control over to Falwell, who just took it. Most of the money raised was reinvested in the park. I don't believe he even did anything illegal.

Man I can't believe after three years of work, this was only in use for one season. I didn't catch that in his book. I do remember him saying that the sand was causing problems so they had to get rid of it. They weren't moving fast enough so he said he started digging the sand out by hand.

Falwell and Swaggert took pleasure in PTL's demise, but they left absolutely nothing of any value or worth in the wake of it's destruction.

I own a PTL club "open bible" with real bonded leather. My grand grandmother loved Jim Bakker's show and did everything she could to support him. According to my grandmother, my great grandmother was upset and distraught when Jim got caught doing all that he did. I do have to say, regardless of the PTL club scam, the Bible is very useful with alot of important feautures maps and introductions

U can tell this was recorded off the old 10 foot satellite dish due to the time box running...and the over-loading of the video signal causing the white to overload the picture, but, other than that, great video! I hope Jerry Falwell is burning in Hell for not giving Heritage USA back to the Bakkers as promised & opening up the can of worms that he did which ultimately destroyed PTL & Heritage USA!

Sure makes me sick to see how nice this water park was & how it's now completely gone thanks to Jerry Fallwell destroying Heritage USA!

I think this place was awesome ,i also think that both Jim and Tammy Faye genuinely believed in what they were doing,sure they lived like millionaires but that was because they preached a ' prosperity gospel ' so they believed it was God's hand on their lives prospering them ( just like Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, Creflo Dollar , Jesse Duplantis , Joyce Meyer , Joel Osteen who all live like millionaires,fly private jets,live in mansion homes ) and yes Jim got involved in sexual sin but he that is without sin cast the first stone, we are all sinners saved by grace and we all make mistakes and fall into sin.Jim's biggest mistake was handing over the ministry to that scum bag Falwell,if Jim had repented publicaly ,kept in control of his ministry perhaps things would have turned out diferrent and Heritage USA would still be here today.

I loved Tammy Faye but I think the Rolls Royces and air conditioned dog houses were a bit extensive. I believed that they started out genuine but then Jim got carried away. I’m not saying Tammy knew Jim was pilfering but I think she certainly looked the other way.

Crazy to think that the entire water park has been torn down and doesn't exist at all. Instead, there are now townhomes sitting where the water park was. I believe TIME magazine said the famous picture of Jerry Fawell going down the water slide in his suit was voted one of the 20th centuries 100 most important pictures, in that it was a moment in time that showed how out of touch Heritage and PTL was (or something like that). I wonder if the people living in those townhomes realize that 30 years ago, in the same space at their master bedroom, Jerry Fawell slid down the slide, creating a top 100 picture. Insane.

Kind of sad that within six months of this show's taping, Heritage USA would begin to unravel at breakneck speed. It was only a matter of days in to the new year (1987) when Tammy would have a nervous breakdown, then flown to California for treatment. By March, 1987, I believe, Jim had turned control of HUSA over to Jerry Falwell, and HUSA was never again able to regain its economic footing, slipping in to bankruptcy

His intentions were ambitious and this, I thought, was a nice idea but sadly it (I guess) couldn't continue because an undertaking such as this requires a boatload of money and I guess he sold 'time shares' that couldn't be fulfilled - some of it is a little confusing but we can't say the concept of a theme Park was a poor idea, I mean, I would enjoy visiting a place such as this.

This was like how they made Opryland Hotel and Opryland USA theme park in Nashville in the hopes that people would visit it and get turned on to Country music back then. So....What was the sin here in having the same thing to turn people on to Jesus Christ? Oh it's a sin and a shame to attach it to Christ? But it's okay if it's attached to anything of the world.... but not to the creator of the world? Let's get real.....the devil loves when you glorify him and his domain but do something great in the name of Jesus Christ and watch how the world will destroy it!

that was a bad idea anyway. the thousand per person went to the operation at the time (whatever that was). but where were they going to get money for ongoing expenses. i'm sure those partners would have to give even more.
