It's that word underrated again John lydon is one of the most well known and infamous figures in music and has been since 1977 certainly in his home land and his records have never underrated
It makes you want to dance, makes you laugh, and makes you think all at same time - yeah! I love how John's lyrics often have a repetitive chant that really sticks in your brain - "this is what you want, this is what you get" - gets into your brain - really effective songwriting.... and the gets into your body on a primitive level, makes you want to move, very danceable. I liked the surrealist montage of his eyes and mouth at 3:20 - way cool! I like the silly, crazy way they're dancing, it's entertaining - yes, the blue-jacketed Martin at 1:40 is GIF worthy!
I can't get people's point on saying that this vid-song is too bad. Man, I've just found the song 1 day ago and I'm in love with it! It's a sticky rhythm, and dat bass. I love it!
I’m not being rude, he sounded like the late Malcolm, when singing and he ginger too, lol 😂😈the one who done “Double Dutch” my favourite song when I was born the same month July ‘83 and “Buffalo girls” and “madam butterfly”, lol, I know he was the manager of the Sex Pistols, am I right?? My favourite song from P.I.L when I was small on U.K television called Top of the pops in 1986 “Rise”, when they performed it on Top of the pops, the atmosphere was good with two drummers (the heavy beat), that was my first time to know the famous Johnny Rotten and that time I think it was 10 years ago when he was in Sex Pistols, I remember I was born in early 80’s, ‘83, but grew up quickly in the mid 80’s after I lost my brother in ‘85 and that time in ‘86 I took over taping top of the pops from my dad at age of 2 and half years old and that’s when first saw Johnny that I will never forget it, some of the rock music looked after me like his song “Rise”, 😃
He's just so cheeky with his in your face antics...I love him. Public Image were such a surprise upon the break up of The Sex Pistols. I'd never heard anything like it...ever.
breakfastmachine: No Daniel Eyre is completely on the money; there was nothing in the least bit revolutionary about The Pistols..... apart from the sloganeering.
This is kind of creative actually. Songs that hang on one chord like this have to have lots of interesting dynamics - which this does. Just like The Beatles did with "Tomorrow Never Knows."
Chadwick Rogers As well as his his collaborators! I think this album is better than most people give it credit for being. It was definitely a smart creative choice to emphasize the main elements that were left within PiL: Atkins' drumming and Lydon's voice. (I especially like how although they double tracked Lydon's vocal, it seems as if they may even have gone out of their way to make sure that the two parts did *not* sound the same.)
The ultimate irony ... the album is a railing against their label who was demanding that they sound like more the Talking Heads. Of course, despite the protest, this album really put PiL in the public conversation.
Really? I like it all up to '9'. I'd say the last great PIL track is Disappointed. A unique statement on friendship and such a great piece of music....plus great live!!
@@davidsanderson5918 It's a goodie, but by 9 PiL had lost the mystique that could still be found on this and previous records. They had become college rock. (The blue blazer long gone by then.)
I'd heard "killing joke" described as being post punk. But it never made any sense whatsoever until i heard PiL with Johnny here who is definitely post punk. 😂
