Ive got a 78 puch maxi with the za50 2 speed , i picked it up about 2 weeks ago and its been running great , today i was running it down the street and it started miss firing like it was running out of fuel ,then it back fired loudly out the carb and shut off , ive been working on it for hours , the points gap was massive and wheni set it for .04mm like stated on the forum and replaced the spark plug for the 3rd time in a week it fired back up and idles great but there is absolutely no power full throttle you get maybe 9mph on flat ground , i checked compression and its at 150 , its getting spark , not certain how strong it is while running i know its burnt up 3 plugs in the week ive had it and smokes like a freight train , fuel is mixed 50:1 , ive had the carb apart like 10 times and never found any debree in it or water , im just not certain what would change all of a sudden to make it not run right , it is not the original carb its an aftermarket bing 12mm running no air filter the last owner never had one on it , i will be ordering one though , ive checked every electrical connection , the needle on the throttle slider is set to the top position so the needle is at the lowest position , this is the only position it will run in and the idle screw is cranked all the way in , kinda losing my mind with this thing so any insight is greatly appreciated
@@Corn-ped most information i find online is about the e50 motors is setting the timing the same on the za50 or do i set it in reverse of the e50 since the flywheel spins the other direction ?
@@Corn-ped i pulled the flywheel , key isnt sheared , this is why i sold my jc penney pintos , puchs are just too much trouble to keep running , they run great until they dont lol ,
Oddly once i ignored the instructions online and set it back the way it was with a gap like someone set it with a popsicle stick it runs great again lol this thing is so annoying
What's your experience with that blue Felpro gasket paper? It's super strange, I've used it on 3 of my bikes in the past for base gaskets and any time i had to remove the cylinder after some use i found that blue paper to have compressed down to nothing and crack/disintegrate upon removal, and it had seeped almost like a liquid/putty down into the skirt of the cases and up into the stud holes of the cylinder. it was bizarre, i haven't used it since. For comparison when i've used the grey rubberized Felpro paper, most of the time the gasket comes off as one and looks good enough that it's tempting to re-use.
it is a little bit thicker but not much and I'm also running a high comp head. if I was building this as a race bike or really high performance I would not run a head gasket and double-check the squish band. But this is commuter bike so I'm not worried about a bigger squish band.
It would be interesting to know what the gearing actually is and how it performed. I have a bike that came with a 52 rear. Changed to 16/45 and really had no positive change from 16/52 so I put the 52 on and went to 18/52 and goes 34-35 unmodded with a proma. I run 16/40 with kits
