I’m not sure if it’s ever stated that they did, but I always assumed they were created for the space gates in Pegasus. Since Atlantis was originally on Earth, then they could have had them - but I doubt it, as the technology seems to be more accustomed to the Lantean style of Ancient tech.
@@Gatetraveller1 I'm only going by the first episodes opening scene had a jumper flying over Antartica heading back to Atlantis just before they left for Pegasus.
Puddle jumper was not a pun related to the gates. The term is commonly used in aeronautics defining a small plane usually used for jumping between smaller regional airports (from puddle to puddle). Sheppard's line of "a little puddle jumper like this" would make sense given that he was a pilot before the Atlantis expedition.
It's funny that no one ever talks about Janus being there watching everything that happened when O'Neill blew up Ares' ship. If what happened is written on the tablet he had to be flying around invisible to watch it. One glitch in the cloak is all we needed.
The term “puddle jumper” had nothing to do with it going through the Stargate’s event horizon. It’s a common term for any short range aircraft and has been since the 1930s.
Definitely possible. They must have done a chunk of the gate network and then realised that the Wraith developed the Darts that could dial the gates, so just stopped lifting gates into orbit. Could also be for Gating to planets that have toxic/unstable ground.
@@cernstormrunner7263 the Lanteans must have also cut off regular DHDs from being able to connect to space gates, as the gate network is a public access network, so I don’t imagine they’d like the Pegasus population accidentally entering space.
I think that it was a part of an experiment to see how civilizations developed isolated verses those that had access to interplanetary trade. Something like control groups.
It would be interesting to follow Janus & his travels, after the Lanteans/Ancients returned to earth. With their knowledge & abilities, it would be very interesting to see how they rebuilt, and how the culture evolved.
It was not originally named the Gate Ship as that moniker was only ascribed by one nerd and everyone hated it. The name was a shot down idea. Live long and suffer, friends.
