Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion - Homura vs Kyubey 

You know, I think about how Homura's witch familiars are supposed to be antagonistic and cruel to their master, but at the same time I see all of this as another aspect to her world and her familiars. They deeply care and love Madoka so much that the only moment Homura and her familiars are unified and working together towards is protecting Madoka. Everything in her world trying to repeatedly kill Kyubey before finally deciding to accelerate the curse and kill herself. In the end, she wants to die, and her familiars reflect her cursing herself for her own weakness in being unable to both save Madoka and protect her.

You've got to admit, this is one of the darkest moments in the series when you contemplate just how much Homura threw away to instead suffer in Hell for eternity if it meant saving Madoka.

Oh my god, 0:52 to 1:18 is just an amazing sequence. The moment Kyubey says that his goal was to confirm the existence of the Law of Cycles Homura's familiars start stomping their staffs and start cracking the glass meaning she knows that he's lying and that she's angry, and as she starts to connect the dots in her head and starts seeing Kyubey's real plan her anger starts building up and the glass cracking symbolizes that, you can even hear the anger in her voice. Once she finally figures everything out Kyubey realizes what's about to happen and he looks away. The glass shattering symbolizes Homura's breaking point and all hell breaks loose.

I think the scariest part of the scene was when Homura yelled "Damarinasai" at Kyuubey. Not just because of the tone of her voice, but because the form of the word that she used is one only used when you're in a position of authority above the subject. That is, Homura believes herself to be more powerful than the incubators, and is actively subjugating them out of what could only be described as vindictiveness. It's as if she's speaking like an angry god to them. Also, I think the most powerful part was the entire sequence of the white Homuras dancing and stumbling around like a crowd of worshipers during an apocalypse, some even hugging and trying to comfort each other before their demise from the black, falling ones. It's like the physical manifestation of the pain that raising the curse is causing. She knows she doesn't want to do this to herself, and knows it will destroy everything she used to be, but she does it anyways because the alternative is even worse. Witches are fucking horrifying.

This scene is the very reason I can understand why Homura became a demon and why to this day I'm not entirely upset with her or condemn her actions. It's a shame the incubators decided to get greedy and now they're going to pay for it

"I'll never let you incubators touch Madoka again." "Would you give up your only salvation because of that?" Turns out, the answer was yes.

If you think about it, if Homura didn't do what she did at the end, it would had been an endless conflict. As the Incubators now know that Madoka exisits, they would be doing all sorts of things to capture her so they can control her, including trapping other girls and driving them into despair. Madoka, with her omipresence, would know what is going on, and consistently have her girls fight back. Worst of all, the losers in the conflict wouldn't have been her or Kyubey: It would had been the victimized girls, especially if they end up meeting the fate Homura nearly did here.

This scene shows the reason Kyubey is so despicable, he cannot even begin to comprehend the concept of sacrifice. All he could think about is why Homura, who's dead one way or the other, would make that choice. He couldn't grasp that she was doing it to honor Madoka and protect all the magical girls who would come after her.

This is one of the most beautifully artistic scenes ever. Every single illustration serves as a metaphor for Homura's state of mind. There is so much meaning under all of this sensory madness crammed into such a short amount of time.

The reason why Homura yelled "Damarinasai" at Kyuubey not just because she finds him annoying, but also, deep in her heart there's the tiny bit of "regrets" of what she is doing. Just like Kyuubey said, if she follows the normal routine, ignoring what could have happen in the future, she could just go with Madoka and get into the Meguca Heaven.

Kyube is one of the best villains ever.. his ideals, the way he speaks, it’s just so good..This episode in particular brought darkness to a twisted twisted meaning ..Animation was amazing

"This is not the joy I wished for" and the explanation of what she's doing right after very well describes what she did in the end. Even after being saved from being a Witch and meeting with Madoka, it wasn't enough. The incubators were still a threat and so Homura couldn't be satisfied with that so ultimately she decided that in order to stop the Incubators from taking control of Madoka that she would be the one to do it first using the power she learned here. The power to raise curses in herself.

4:15 It is interesting to see that the Clara Dolls in this attack, they impale and twist Kyubey's body by spinning, which reminds me a lot to the hands of a clock spinning, which makes sense since one of Homulilly's overall themes is time itself.

I think the black dress Homura was wearing is lovely.

Man, I can't stand Kyubey, but there is one thing he and Homura got right. Love is the pinnacle of all human emotion and more illogical than anything else we feel. Because when humans love we love with everything we got and if what or who we love is in danger we will fight like hell to protect them. Even if it means suffering in hell forever it's worth it.

Homura's Clara dolls are honestly fucking terrifying. Especially the fact that they seem to be on a level similar to that of an average magical girl. Imagine if they actually worked with Homura rather than existing to make fun of her.

This is why I can't help but LOATHE Kyubey. For all of his good intentions, he couldn't leave well enough alone and tried to bring back the witch system. He caused a great deal of suffering to dozens of innocent girls, and saying my blood boils when I see him is not an understatement. I can't decide about Lil Kyubey whether I want to cuddle or STRANGLE him. If he's innocent, the former, but if he's manipulating too...

ほむらの愛が…悲しくなる…

Love how inner tension of Homura's thoughts is shown in form of cracks forming around her and agitated doll-familiars running around. She doesn't looks angered at the surface, but all those cracks shows that inside she's seething with rage. And then it all blows when she asks one blunt question.

時として損得や理屈だけで動くわけではないのが人間。特にほむらに対しては、インキュベーターのロボみたいな理屈オンリー理論は通らないんだよなぁ。

I love this scene soo much because we get a much clearer debate, the emotional side, and the logical side. It has been hinted around the end of the movie, and even the opening, that the earth, and universe was slowly dying. The incubators main objective was to prevent or stunt the destruction of the universe, and the only way to have combated this was to have magical girls turn into witches. However, due to Madoka’s wish, the means to collect that energy is gone. The incubators are now struggling to find a way to collect the energy more efficiently. And here’s why I think it’s a debate, Homura represents the emotional side, Kyuubey the illogical side. Both are right in their own way. Homura wants to save Madoka, the magical system is fucked, using little girls’ lives like cattle. And yet, I dare say, Kyuubey is also right in their own way too, for they just want to save the universe, so any sacrifice is necessary, even the death of a few innocent lives, or heck even an entire world. The problem, they are both right and wrong at the same time. It makes sense, trying to save your friend’s (cough cough lover’s) life from a terrible fate, but by doing so, is preventing the universe from being saved. The incubators only want the universe to live, which does include, well everything, however by not feeling that what they are doing is wrong, is what makes this so fricken wrong. I really do like Kyuubey, because they are such a well written antagonist. Having a character that thinks logically, and erradicates all emotion

Kyubey is highly intelligent because he doesn't feel emotions and can analyze everything without being biased but at the same time that's his biggest flaw. He couldn't conceive how Homura could throw herself to hell just to save Madoka because "LOVE" was never in his vocabulary. This movie is a masterpiece, we need the sequel right now.

I'm sorry but nothing represents lashing out in confused anger better than the rhythmic march of Homulilly's soldiers to the tune of probably my favorite song from the soundtrack. The Clara Dolls are so underrated tbh

Looking back at this scene I honestly love the implications of the Homura rain scene. The Homura's falling from the sky are killing the Homura's in the sea. Which is literally her killing herself, which shes does for Madoka.

The only reason Kyubey knew about the former witch system is because Homura told him about it at the end of episode 12. Does that mean Homura caused the events of Rebellion?

Kyubey gets to learn what it's like in games where Everything is Trying to Kill You. Also the Clara Dolls are absolutely adorifying.

I watched the movie and I'm still furiously ruminating on this scene. I'm very impressed by Homura being able to keep her cool, just long enough to interrogate Kyuubey before beating him to a pulp (too bad he went unscathed from that). The way he smugly explained his plans to trap Madokami and bring back the witch system has me vibrating in anger. I really, really wanna punch that lil bastard in the face so bad. Then, I remember posts agreeing and explaining how Kyuubey did nothing wrong and that the girls are at fault for agreeing to contracts with him in the first place? Well, guess what? HE'S A GOƉƉAMN LOAN SHARK, OF COURSE HE'LL GO AFTER NAIVE AND DESPERATE TARGETS, WHY ARE YOU BLAMING THE GIRLS WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'RE GETTING INTO? The girls got the short end of the stick, basically being robbed of a future, of second chances and of being able to make mistakes and learn from them without turning into a ticking time bomb as a consequence. FUȻK YOU KYUUBEY, NOW IT'S YOUR TURN TO FEEL DESPAIR AND BE THE BATTERY TO FIX YOUR GOƉƉAMN ENERGY CRISIS

Even when surrounded by incubators, in an isolated world, with nearly no chance of victory, Akemi Homura will never allow the incubators to use Madoka Kaname. The incubators failed and underestimated the lengths not a magical girl, not a human, but Akemi Homura would go to ensure they would not win.

i’m pretty sure the reason why you see so many curses in the form of homura is because of the time loop . they represent how many times she has gone back and tried to hard to save madoka from her fate . really sad to see

When I first saw all the sequels, I thought this series was just cashing in, but the plot they created is really amazing. It's truly Shakespearian.

What's messed up is that the incubators fucked themselves over. Granted they didn't get as much energy as they wanted but over time they got to keep the world from being destroyed and their relationship with the magical girls were on better terms but they were consumed by ironically an emotion namely greed and pride.

I wanted to see that little incubator suffer and I wasn’t disappointed. Homura making the sacrifice to kill kyubey forever is a pretty noble act for a witch

What Kyubey did is technically the same as what humans did for the sake of science. There has been so many cruel experiments, inhumane conducts, destroying habitats, unnecessary murder due to gluttony & greed, neglecting feelings or consequences of other life forms, never leaving nature alone...all to "improve the society". & did they ever felt bad for doing so? Their typical reply "honestly, why can some people's thoughts be so incomprehensibly illogical?"

For those who say madoka already kill ton of kyubey so what homura did in the end is unnecessary should go to watch the movie again, when homura ascended, they are visually a lot more of his kind.

And the whole sequence is taking place inside the soul gem...

Now that I think about it, Kyuubey's strategy is a lot like the representation of "lab animals". It reminds me of how us humans put lab rats in a cage. But instead of experimenting with them, you do it to humans. And instead of looking for a disease cure, it's saving the universe. Everything's on a larger scale. The Revenge of Planet Animals??

When I came out of the movie theater, I was fuming for what Homura did. I now realized the reason I was mad was because I'd do the same thing for a person who I loved the most.

Damn I always forget how great a character Kyubey is.

And this scene is finally clear to me This is the moment she corrupts herself (flood of dark blood) with pure love for Madoka (bloody moon), and destorys her own moral and humane levels (represented by the frolicking white Homura silhouettes being destoryed by bitter dark versions) to make sure Kyubey doesn't succeed and make herself un-useable (becoming a witch stuck in a repeating funeral march) ... So Logic Ensues... ...that saving her, NONE OF THE CURSE INFLICTED FROM THIS SCENE IS UNDONE, so Homura sadly destoryed her own senses with the intention to die to prevent her insanity... which is triggered from her finally seeing Madoka once again. ...but the restoration of her core to her body causes her to carry the consequences to their fullest extent. It really was Kyubey's fault that Homulucifer can to be.

Kyuubey: "You really don't need to be putting you entire existence in jeopardy just to kill little ol' me. Why bother?" Homura: "You task me. You task me, and I shall have you. I'll chase you round the moons of Nibia and round the Antares Maelstrom and round Perdition's FLAMES before I give you up."
