Thanks for the video. Just to share a couple of thoughts from nearly 50 years of jigging for salmon: I haven't found anything that beats a BuzzBomb; a line counter reel really comes in handy; if you're exploring for kings where they aren't congregated (usually the case) jig about three feet off the bottom. Like you, I like iridescent tape on my BuzzBombs, darts, etc. Gary Northrop
Love your video's, you may wish to look at getting your tripod for filming like this. A bit heavier line might be better, damn dogfish will destroy your lighter rigs.
That was awesome man, super educational. I'm not a big fan of down rigging. It's a little boring and I hate the constant noise from the engine and fumes from the exhaust. Don't get me wrong, I have and will continue to use them in the future but jigging/casting is way more entertaining. Nothing beats the feeling of pulling up the rod and the big pull back. Well, maybe spearing a fish does but jigging is a close second haha.
@@WAFishQuest Ya, they work great but they are heavy too. There are plenty of times that I want a lighter jig with the same profile. Always looking for a more tools to add to the box.
Been following you for a while now. Love the jigging video. Years ago that is how I started. Well jigging and mooching around Possession Bar and Point No Point. Haven't been out in years but this video makes me want to correct that. Thanks for all your other videos as well. I really enjoy watching them.
Get a Garmin livescope caught my first salty coho today, I was jigging a white 2oz point Wilson dart at 60’ and saw a big mark come onto the screen at 30’ reeled up to it and watched it live attack my jig😅 also crazy seeing how many shakers 2”-12” try to attack your jig and the amount of bait fish in the sound
I recently moved to Oly and I think the Nisqually is going to be my new spot. Is there any good public access shore fishing near the delta. I saw a boat launch on the south side from the fish Washington app. Is that all there is?
The public shoreline options are not good. "Luhr's Landing" has a tad of shoreline assess. The river itself has "handicap" hole. But that's probably a half mile up river. There's also Tolmie State park, but it's pretty far off the Delta and not really a good place to fish (some people clam there).
Thanks a ton Ryan! How do you mean Bay? Like Budd Inlet? If so yes. I cast spinners with hoochies skirts in September and early October. If you mean another body of water, let me know.
Hey Blake, I think we are neighbors. I recently moved to Tumwater and have really enjoyed your videos about the area. Been learning a lot and now that the salmon season is here, I hope to put a lot of that to good use. Maybe I'll bump into you out in the hood? LOL? You don't have a public email by chance do you?
Really enjoyed this…love jigging but rarely get the chance. A few questions for you….ever run a barrel swivel from the split ring to the hook? Maybe not because the hook would need an open eye and that scares some people off…just would like to know your thoughts. Also, could not quite tell your snap/swivel setup to the jig. Could you please elabarte on that set up. Last, your reel was not a line counter, any reason why? Well, one more. Type of tides that you prefer to jig in? Guess would 1 hr before, 1 hr after tides with less variance. Thanks
This is somewhat nebulous advice but, the areas I jig tend to be where they're sort of staking up before they head up a river. Sometimes it's near a mouth, sometimes it's 10 miles away. A somewhat frustrating element is they don't always stack up the place every year. For instance my favorite flat this year was barren. A popular jig fishery is fish trap in Olympia. Popular jig fisheries are easier. You can observe what the other boats are doing and copy their depth. Or start near shore, and do a drift, then go out another 20 feet and drift again. Getting deeper (or you could do it in reverse and go shallower) until you find the fish's lane. Hope that was somewhat helpful!
That'd be cool! But no sir. It's our local salt. I'm not going to "spot burn" the location. But it's not like special, or anything, just a local place salmon pass thru.
Never been a fan of jigging for salmon. I see guys doing this on the Columbia River and they are snagging a bunch of salmon before they get one hooked in the mouth. Same with most coho jiggers. Spook the fish in smaller rivers pretty much ruining entire holes.
@@WAFishQuest definitely wasn't implying that. You had legal hookups. You were correctly jigging. Some guys I see are jigging so aggressively you know they are snagging.
Thank you sir! Sometimes it's hard to tell if there is writing between the lines on the RU-vid (there often is). Thanks a ton for watching and commenting! There are a lot of snaggers out there for sure.
@@WAFishQuest I was out yesterday afternoon near Deception Pass, Pinks jumping. Got my first Salmon on a Buzz Bomb and my first Pink on a fly. Great fun. Two checkmarks! :-)
