If you stop at 0:58 you clearly can see that there is no saddle or girth. The owners of the horse just had him or her clipped so that the longer hair would be under the saddle.

This is just breath taking, horses are so amazing! At the end of the day they're still a wild animal, so why do they do these kind of things for us? Horses are unpredictable, but so reliable at the same time. Look at the bonds that these riders would have with their horses, it take a whole lot of trust and courage to get over jumps like those! :) xx

This is so wrong, horses aren't meant for this kind of work. This sport is the reason why these horses go lame so fast. That's like jumping out of a 2 story building over and over again. Why do people support this??

@Lostarmoor Yeah yeah, well I am glad you like it soooo much, I would love it too if it weren't for the incredible wear and tear on the horse's joints jumping that high. It is just too much for my liking. I would not make my horse do something that demanding and rough on his joints. That's all I am saying. If you love it, that's great, I just do not agree with risking the horse's joints for the sake of being the highest jumper.

the anatomy of the horse is built for any type of jumping except natural objects in their path yet they are fully able to have a long showjumping career without any after effects. How does that work? How can a horse clear a showjump if it isn't capable or made to be able to do it. Humans aren't made to do alot of things yet we still do them. Same with any animal, collie dogs are bred to herd sheep yet are top class in agility!
@xXeMokiDXxMCRXx

Bloody hell, people nowadays. Horses love jumping, it is an adrenaline rush and that has been scientifically proven to happen when horses jump and gallop, same as humans doing something exciting. I suggest that we all stop walking down the road as a car might bump the curb, killing us and anyone with us! Also better stop doing what you love because you are all ready to deny horses the things they love! Accidents happen ANYWHERE. If a horse was not capable of this how in the hell can it do it!
@AnnieKeller

@Omskanielar If the horse didn't want to jump over it, it wouldn't. Notice how no whips are used to force the horse into doing anything. And, like I said, they are all taking regular joint supplements and they reserve this height only for pro shows, so it's not like they do this every day. As for being a "stupid fool and should not go anywhere near these beautiful and majestic animals" I happen to ride and jump horses every week and have been doing so for 7 years. Don't plan to stop

At :51 The rider IS bareback. The horse was body clipped thats why he is a dull chestnut when you body clip you leave hair around where the saddle normally is so the horse dose not get sores. The rider is bareback and its not hard to pinch with your lower leg and knee and throw yourself in front of the withers before the horse is totally off the ground. Its all about body strength, time and momentum. :D

Guys, it's not abuse. The horses are in top condition and love doing this. Any mistakes are the fault of the rider or of the horse knowing not to go beyond his abilites.

Hahah, Ever heard of Alcatraz34 he is still jumping 1.45m at the golden age of 23, or how about the oldest horse at the World Equestrian Games was a 20 year old event horse Stand By Me, ridden by Sweden’s Linda Algotsson, according to the Horse and Hound. The pair has placed second at the European Championships - once in 1999 and again in 2003. A 20 year old horse competing at the WEGs is incredible. So ha.

Wow. You think these people beat their horses because they can't jump over a jump that they KNOW is pretty difficult? You definitely haven't been around show jumpers. These horses are treated like royalty. If they didn't trust their riders and didn't want to jump it, they wouldn't. Horses are nervous animals because they are prey animals- they can't see what is on the other side of that jump. They don't go over because they are forced to, they jump because they trust their rider and want to.
@saddleback101
@saddleback101 12 лет назад
When fast fact here:people on youtube LIE. If you beleive everything on the internet good luck with life. The crop isn't used to hurt the horses. Its the sound that speeds them up, not the pain so I wouldn't say it is cruel. Unusual? Horses love jumping and in the wild they will jump over creeks logs and whatever else. I don't find this sport very unusual. And remember, the rider can push their horse as much as they want but if a horse doesn't want to do something he/she woun't do it.
@saddleback101
@saddleback101 12 лет назад
I risk it because he loves to jump. I wouldn't in a million years take it away from him. I don't push him either, he kinda pushes me. I think you need to look on the bright side, sure there are injuries and deaths but it's the best feeling in the world when you and your horse win something together. It brings out the best in both of us and the pride and love we feel for each other is undescribible. Jumping bring us closer and we both love it. THAT is why I risk him in this "dangerous" sport.
@saddleback101
@saddleback101 12 лет назад
And being a show rider myself I think it is very offensive and not to mention FALSE to call us selfish and conceited. We care as much about our horses as everybody else does. I love Shadow more than anything in the world. Even though we carry crops and spurs doesn't mean we use them. I don't use mine because I don't need to. I don't think of myself higher than anybody else. It's true that we like to look nice, but that is because we are representing our barn. And mine barn is just like family.
@saddleback101
@saddleback101 12 лет назад
Just because it's dangerous isn't a reason to exclude it! It is just like people know that scuba diving is dangerous and people are killed and injured every day but does that stop us from doing it? NO. (most)Horses love to jump and just because it's not the safest thing in the world nobody should take it away from them. I really hope you change your mind about your filly. It's not like you have to make her jump at this level you can just let her do low jumps.
@KasiChumChuda

@Sakima636 It is 100% against the rules to have a horse in a show with illegal or harmful drugs. Plus, there aren't even that many drugs you can use for a horse's joints. It's all about rest when it comes to things like that. Even if the horse didn't get tested at the start of the show, if there are any suspicions of drugs whatsoever, the horse will get tested, and if positive, will be disqualified.

@TheGoogoofreak I've been riding for over 3 years and have been knowledgeable about them for years before. Please don't make assumptions. I jump my horse often, but not nearly this high. I wouldn't jump a horse more than about 4 and a half feet or so, but that's just me. I'm simply stating what I see: the majority of the horses aren't making it over these massive jumps, and bashing through them/falling down seems like it would be very hard on the body. The ones that do make it over land

people who say this is torture, have no clue 1) if a horse didn't want to jump you can see it 2)these blocks are made from foam, ive seen horses feet go through blocks like this they have gone streight through one end and out the other with out a scratch, if your horse ran thgough a fence, it would have more damage!!! 3) these horses are finley tuned athletes, that are expensive, why would they risk a horse's life if it wasn't going to come out alive 4) the fei has rules, that r applied!!!

I'm sorry but I beg to differ, I do track & when I run hurdles & I try to jump one that is way too high, it hurts A LOT especially if its one of the stationary hurdles that do not move (like the horses have) & that are made of metal, also look at their legs, what would be the horses wrists are bending so far down when they land, just think of the stress on their joints. they only do it because they were trained to, horses were never made to jump this high

It is dangerous, but like some people have said, there's risk of a horse or rider getting hurt anywhere. I've had a horse jump over me and I nearly damaged my spine jumping only 2ft. I think some horses enjoy it, so it's up to the rider to decide wether the horse can do it and wants to do it or not.

Some horses do jump for their own fun- I had a horse I couldn't trust in a six-foot pipe enclosure. He delighted in jumping it. Also, no, you cannot bully a horse into doing this. They rear, they kick, and if you piss them off enough, they will throw themselves down (sometimes over backwards) and crush the rider. You cannot force a horse to do anything unless you physically overpower it, and that usually takes several people working together to accomplish.
@saphirasnow5906

Trust me I get that, I just don't understand why the sport itself has to make the jumps so high. Just because they love to jump doesn't mean they should be expected to jump outrageous heights. Also they are trained to jump these heights not because they want to but because their people want them to. I respect your opinion and understand your meaning but I still don't agree with the heights of these jumps.

you can't make an animal this big and strong and so much powerful than you do something they do not want to do. especially if it is jumping these enormous jumps. these must be horses that really enjoy what they are doing. In fact, if you see other videos (and pay attention in some scenes in this one, too) you can see how excited they get just by going NEAR a jump. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be mean, just making it clear that these horses aren't forced to do what they do.

We cannot force the animal, but we can coerce him. Sometimes the horse doesn't know he is going to hurt himself. Sometimes he never crashes, but his joints wear out and he spends his old age limping around. My show jumping stallion Sutter's Showboy was a great soul, brave and noble. His ability and desire to jump was obvious from the time he was a yearling. He won many prizes, but I wish no one has ever asked him to push himself to the limit. The cost to him was too great.

These horses go through years and years of training to be where they are. If the people who are involved with these horses did not think they would cope mentally and physically then I don't think they would put them the puissance, they are worth so much money, even if the horses don't get into the puissance they will get somewhere and make money. The owners of these horses would not risk the horses life and limbs for this competition as these type of horses are few and far and are worth to much.

I can assure you that retirement for a horse is grand and that these horses, who have done so much for their owners, are probably treated with the highest regard. The people that own these horses do everything they can to keep them comfortable in retirement and they are quite comfortable. Unless you are some under cover billionaire, the horses will probably enjoy their retirement more than you or I will enjoy ours.
@LucyEquestriann
@LucyEquestriann 12 лет назад
actually studies show that jumping over 3ft constantly does damage their backs, and also in the latest issue of HORSE magazine it says competition horses (like these puissance horses) have to have an early retirement because of damage to their tendons, backs ect. from jumping too high. yeah they're big animals, but big animals can get hurt too. and theyre doing this for the rider...even if they didnt want to do something they probably do it because they have to. JS
@miselemeas2911
@miselemeas2911 12 лет назад
Tell that to the horse that they weren't meant to jump and you'd probably get a kick to the face! ;) The tendons in their legs support their weight and flex under incredible pressure, like their cousins gazelles they can spring and leap in the air. There's an incredible documentary from Channel 4's Inside Nature's Giants on the racehorse which is worth watching that explains this better than I could.

Most find themselves at low quality breeding farms, sold to be trained for regular English shows, breakdown on the track, or go to the meat buyer. The racing pedigrees are very inbred amongst speed sires, many of which had career ending injuries. Mr. Prospector, Danzig, Storm Cat, Northern Dancer, among others all had soundness issues, but good luck finding a Thoroughbred who doesn't have most if not all of them in his pedigree. So they can tear up the quarter mile, but often can't staysound

I definitely understand your point. I refuse to support horse racing because of what it has become. Thoroughbreds race horses used to start to compete late in their as older 3yos at the earliest. Distances were 2-5 miles, and several pairs of horses were raced in 3-5 separate races of the same length throughout the day. Within the groups whoever won the most was the winner. They usually competed until their early teens, and stayed healthy despite this. Today the industry breeds for speed

legs results in a pretty tough horse. 8. Finally, I think people confuse normal wear and tear with something inherently wrong in the discipline. We all get old, joints get achey when it's cold, arthritis might set in, and any sort of recovery takes longer. That doesn't mean the trainer was abusive, the horse mistreated, or the discipline is bad. Again, that we see horses jumping at high levels into their mid to late teens, but have little to no actual breakdowns speaks for itself.

doping really exacerbates injuries. Career longevity and breeding potential are worth more than a win or two so from purely monetary reasons it makes no sense to tear up your expensive world class horse for that. 7. Eventers, and Warmbloods in particular, are started later than most other horses so their bodies have more time to mature and strengthen unlike in racing which has most horses broke and out competing the summer after they turn two. Combine that with what are essentially draft horse

Standardbreds are also a very sturdy breed, and is probably why their incidents of non-crash related injury are miniscule. I'm not saying people in racing are evil abusers, and jumpers perfect little angels, it's just more a matter of common sense. Doping problems occur mostly in lower level racing that can be financially lucrative. Most non-racing breeds don't have a comparable level of competition. Upper levels aren't as prone to doping because these are already quality animals, and

of these horses is unmatched by any other rigorous equestrian competition (I think it would probably tie with endurance.) 6. People say these horses are doped, but forget that doping masks pain and does nothing to the underlying injury. Doping levels are in tandem with breakdowns (Google for several recent university studies about racehorse breakdowns) which is why there is such a problem with on track injury and death. Tellingly these incidents stay mostly within TB and QH racing.

No, because: 1. Warmbloods were bred for, and thus are uniquely suited to this, 2. Physically they are a very sturdy breed that do not injure easily when doing eventing-type work, 3. This isn't something most horses or people do. These are hands down the highest fences in the world, and maybe two dozen horses that can actually compete at this level, 4. the jumps are constructed with very light plastic blocks that prevent injury and falls should the horse clip them, and 5. the sheer longevity

,andis one of the main factors in the rash of breakdowns. If anyone was reallly drugging a horse at an event as strenuous as this then we'd actualy have cases of hurt or dead hores From a urely monetary standpoint it makes no sense. Therese aren't cheap claimers, the are the top jumpers in the world. They're not going to risk a fracture on such a valuable horse. And considering most pain killers are depressants it which actually hamper their performance ds. So far I've

So what is the 'right way?' These are the sturdiest jupers in the world, and obviously do represet what the majority of te breed does. These are some of the tops in the world. They acan handle because they have draft blood in them gives them sturdy frames. They ar started much llater than other breeds, conditioned slower, and are thus able to continue. These horses do it just fine, and enjoy it. So where is your expertise o biomechanics and physiologiy?
@Badgerbadger1
@Badgerbadger1 12 лет назад
I work at a decent sized Warmblood stable that breeds them. Part of my job is to nd give medicine. The only horses who get any sort of pain meds are either older and it is natural to have that happen, have an acutre jjust needs some time , and other a few who hurt themselves at various ponts, non competition related. I'm telling you again: look at their legs. Accidents happen, but the reasons you only see WArmbloods in these shows is that thy are sturdy as well as fast They long sturdy legs

for the Frankenhorse. If you want to see a weak legged breed than look at racing bred TBs. They're so horribly over a q uarter of the major sires in the lsk thirty years has slab fractures, chipped bones, laminitis, tcnnective tissue damage,etc. But, again, surprise surpise Warmbloods don't see much of the issue And if you an to jump logs still then PLEASE get an instructor to teach your how. Otherwise your flopping all over your snapping the bit back up the ascent, probably with his

They even look and move like a normal hrose. No padsbutt croches, maimed tails, freaked out overly white eyes, or shank bitts snapped because none of the gaited shows I don't 'see'r style as harsh, I KNOW it is harsh. Go jobbing in wedged heels and see how much you like running with your running shoes that let your biomechanics remain normal. I'll even wait.I don't really discu ss gaiteds mu ch, but I ave non-horse friends and ac qu antinces who invariably look at your the competitoin

with airs is also mean. Gp vosot a War,b;ppd pme day. Look at the leg, back,chest, and withers.s. You will understand what I memember People don't make every Warmblood do this. There are a handful that can jump that! And despite it being so cruel with similar strain as horse racing I have yet to see any ave of Warmbloods being euthanized or taken ut in the medical van. Tey are tall without the bod ybeing heavy, have strong hind ends to help propel them, deep chests to again help propel

They ae given tiime to mature, slowly conditioned, and can even be turned out in the paddock safely while those TWHs stand on their tiptoes for months from the box watch how a normal horse moves. Warmblood means a draft crossed iwth a hotllood. That is the soul reason for their success at ths. They are on of the only horses with solid enough bones to dte strength and the position of the leg is key, and the only non-draft that rivals a Warmblood would a Lippizanner, but I guess clasicaal

Ho run around in heels for an our with chains around your nankless and gt back me. The real unnatural movement is that hideous shuffeling 'canter.' You purposefully deform their hoovesfor competition, and so are rendered unable to leave them during competition season. Fimmy, I would say yor breed of horses are the ones with the unnaturally flat back. I've een horses jump on my own, but never once saw horses shuffling at a rocking camera with his tail out of whack and hunching his read

Yo will see an immeediately obvious difference. I cn't predict what will happen in the future, but these are the hands down best and healthiest breeds of howrrse anywhere. So, again, where is your proof of horrible Warmblood breakdowns? That's right, there aren't any. They can still perform their middle teen years because of this. Structurally deficient animals do not The only stronger bones and joints you'd find would be on the draft horses they originatd from, but who obviously could not

cannot do anything approaching a llengthy career with these event. Unfortuatly racing thoroughbreds have moved into a naturally unsound and light boned body which is why they have a horrific number of breakdowns. These numbers include significant numbers of doepd TBs. Doping doesn't fix an injury, it masks it. hsee horses are truly doped you would have of hundreds or more dying in the , but that doesn't happen and so they remain fsst buy sturd. Go actually look a WArmblood versus an Arabian
