I mean Disco Kid, Piston Honda, Bear Hugger, Great Tiger, Soda Popinski, and Bald Bull didn't seem to have any problems. Disco's life seems to have improved a lot since he took up boxer jazzercise (Boxercise, if you will). Honda was just doing what he usually does. Hugger wasn't all to upset by it, but he did seem to enjoy life with his woodland friends afterwards anyway, so it's all good. Tiger just honed his magic techniques. While, yes, he did do it to go up against Mac again, he also did it to improve on himself. Soda is just doping. He probably was upset by Mac's victory, but it was most likely the experimentation of the doctors that made him super powerful as opposed to his own demands. He's basically a lab rat. And Bald Bull was fucking pissed, but that's just who he is. He actually bettered himself by training his balance against a bull so that he could easily prevent himself from falling to a strong impact. But everyone else was either blinded by rage, had their lives go to shit, or both. Glass Joe got brain damage, Von Kaiser was pissed off, King Hippo resorted to cheating, Don Flamenco lost his girlfriend and got pissed off, Aran Ryan brought a straight-up weapon into the ring, Super Macho Man lost all of his fame and got extremely pissed, and Mr. Sandman lost his championship title and got so pissed off that he KNOCKED DOWN AN ENTIRE BUILDING JUST BY PUNCHING IT!
I'd argue Joe's life got better. He got his HELMET. Hondo; Bear Hugger and Bull [of all people the one with a huge rage problem] just seem to react with training. Great Tiger seems to unlock new powers through meditation after his defeat so he definitely didn't have his life ruined. Ryan is just... always angry and cheating. Popinski also seems to not care, it's his Russian scientists who are cheating and doping him up. [He seems confused by the whole thing] Von Kaiser just seems angry at his defeat. Disco Kid seems to lose motivation but finds a new one. Hippo *dosen't care* and simply tries to fix his weakness. Flamenco seems to have lost some popularity but is also using it as motivation and actually training. Macho and Sandman seem to have been hit the hardest.
I feel so bad for Glass Joe in these scenes. Dude seems depressed and terrified of fighting. I feel like he doesn't quit because he feels as if he needs to prove himself in order to boost his confidence. Poor guy.
Well all characters are based on stereotypes. Glass Joe is a French gentleman that likes croissants, and as a whole wrestling and boxing isn't really our thing in France.
Sandman is the foil to Little Mac. Both boxers who defeat the rest of the roster and take the championship without cheating, learning magic, or having animals on their side. But Sandman has the incredible power that Mac is defined by lacking. Sandman may be huge, but Mac can keep dodging and getting hits in that pile up and score him the win. Sandman and Mac are both incredibly determined, as Mac can stop himself when knocked down and always get up, but Sandman focuses on strength, being able to punch out buildings with bare fists. They are the pinnacles of the WVBA, and the gargantuan bruiser can't stand to lose to a 17-year old flyweight, taking cues from one of the very first final bosses Little Mac ever faced: Mike Tyson.

Part of me feels bad for Disco Kid. I mean, the guy's just there to have a good time, and yet look at how sad he looks in the first frame of his TD intro.
Disco Kid's Title Defense video is super inspiring. He's lost his fighting spirit entirely and literally hung up his gloves, but discovers dance boxing and finds his passion once again. Why am I crying?
When you can fight opponents that can tank hits from bulls, send a bull flying with one punch, move trucks with their teeth, destroy buildings, and keep up with trains, you know that you are the best. God bless Little Mac.

Darth Phazon What about Sandman? His training is literally beating the crap out of every single contender in the game (other than Mac) and then he trains by destroying an entire building. How is that not taking it seriously?

At 3:58, Little mac is training hard to win the championship, but he may not be prepared for all the girls and sponsors came up on his shoulders. He's not like the other characters that want fame on the blink.
I love how many of the fighters (like Piston Hondo, tiger, and the small league ones) genuinely improve themselves and better themselves in order to face mac, while others are filled with so much rage that they demolish an entire building
Soda Popinski resots to steroids pretty much. great tiger literally becomes a wizard who mastered all forms of illusion magic and then there's Aran Ryan, he just resorted to finding different ways to play dirty enough that it's actually funny

AngryRedJuiceBox Realistically, he is holding back, as its against the rules to purposefully kill your opponent in boxing. Either that or Little Mac is that damn durable.
My favorite is Piston Hondo because he doesn't resort to cheating nor uses his rematch as a chance for revenge. He took his loss against Little Mac as a wake-up call to enhance his training and push his limits because he genuinely just wants to be the strongest fighter without any desires of wealth and fame. In that regard, I feel like him and Mac are the most alike, and probably consider each other rivals with respect.

So in Title Defense: -Glass Joe has brain damage and was allowed to have a boxing helmet protection. -Von Kaiser decides to man up and get serious. -Disco Kid recieves extra training in a disco boxing. -King Hippo gets a powerful protection on his belly. -Piston Hondo goes through extreme training. -Bear Hugger trains under a bear and squirrel. -Great Tiger calls upon the four elements. -Don Flamenco is enraged and goes through a very hard training. -Aran Ryan decides to cheat using a boxing glove tied to a rope. -Soda Popinski gets extra power from a chemical soda. -Bald Bull can regain his balance when knocked over. -Super Macho Man is outraged and trained non-stop. -Mr. Sandman is pissed off and destroys a building using his fists.
Bear Hugger might be one of if not my favorite boxer in this game, and the Title Defense intro is one of the reasons why. He isn't mad, and isn't really acknowledging Mac, he's just training with his animal bros.

Little mac has to be one of the most (if not the most) bravest and perseverant characters in gaming. Mr sandman literally brought down a whole building with his bare hands and little mac is still willing to protect his title. Even if many other characters have superpowers that help them fight true monsters, little mac is only a human, and also one that is less than average because of his height, and has nothing but his hard training and a dream to reach to the top.

I love Mr. Sandman's. It captured his charcter position perfectly. All these intimidating fighters you have fought throughout your boxing journey all looked like mere chumps to this man. Now that's how you set up the "final" challenge.
My personal canon is that; just like in our universe, Super Punch-out is a videogame that got licensing deals with the three champions, and the WVBA declared the Nick Bruiser fight so hard, that whoever could beat him first would obtain an official win. And Glass Joe was the first. It's shaky, but not completely implausible.
I love how when it shows the frames of Mr. Sandman knocking out the boxers from the world circuit(and Don Flamenco), the frames are made to look like he’s following through with a punch.
I think the best part of this is that we see King Hippo washing dishes. It's like... does he live on his own or something? Is he really not a king? It's odd, but funny.
I like how some fighters take their loss hard like Don and Macho, because they seem generally egotistical, while some like Bear and Piston don’t take it so hard and just train harder. Then Joe just puts on headgear and BOOM! He’s ready to fight again.
I like how the bear is Bear Hugger's Doc Louis. Edit: I mean the personality and everything. If we could understand bear, that bear would sound exactly like Doc Louis.

And he just beat Nick Bruiser because of a freak accident that happened in their bout. Also, in the SNES game, Nick Bruiser's record has no losses, oddly enough

Don Flamenco: A renowned bullfighter who's trying to impress his girl. Aran Ryan: An insane prankster boxer who cheats. Plus, his Celtic rendition of the Punch Out theme is AMAZING! Soda Popinski: A Russian guy, training in freezing condition, who loves to drink soda. Bald Bull: A renowned boxer who loves living the good life, but hates the crowds, hinted by his bad temper. Piston Hondo: Still disciplined, earning more patience and takes his training really serious. Bear Hugger: Getting better and stronger and even brings a squirrel companion. Great Tiger: Unlocked other fighting styles by meditating in 3 different places. Don Flamenco: Embarrassed in front of his girl and wishes to get revenge as a form of retribution through serious training. Aran Ryan: Stuck to his old cheating ways and even brought a WEAPON with him! Soda Popinski: Discovered some scientists that makes mega soda. Bald Bull: His anger flared, and was easily beatable when it did so, so he trained to remove that weakness, trying to prove he is unbeatable. Super Macho Man: Became enraged that Little Mac stole his spotlight and fame, so he trained hard to get them back. Mr. Sandman: Ballistic and enraged that he lost to a guy much shorter than him and trains by leveling a building with said rage.
