Steve great information. Was looking for some additional information on the traditional frog/punch approach and this was perfect. Thanks for all your work and I'll just call this the "Coop" technique when explaining it to others. Thanks much🙏

Hi Steve nice video! I like the thorough approach of fishing everything from the outside weed line & inside or vise-versa. When you’re in a boat it’s easy to pass so many good areas, fish spots too quickly and leave good fish behind. I’m definitely going to add that 4th rod in my lineup. I’ll be sure to send you a report this weekend. Good luck out there Thanks!

Wow ! You really know how to explain about all types of bass fishing techniques!!! And my friend and I fish the delta but so many ski boats and big wakes you seem to be where it’s so calm !! Well thank you for the lessons !! We are gonna go fishing Friday !! We usually launch lazy marina so hope we don’t get to much ski boats 😂😂😂😂

Thank YOu Mr. Sir for your expert tutelage ....Like Michael Chen said 👇👇👇 ( This has been one of the best explanations of punching ) that I've watched !! most of the channels / guys don't give you the ( WHY , WHERE , WHEN ) kind of info like you have in todays video ..🙏👊... most of the videos I've seen are just ( I'm using a 7' 6'' --7' 11'' 65# 1 1/2 oz yada yada) and not much info about ( outside ,, along side , different rod set ups ) ........I purchased a set up for a Frog'n BPS 7' 3'' hvy fast ...couple months ago so i'm learning to toss that around ... returned a 7' 6'' heavy I was going to use for Punching but at 5' 6'' tall it felt like TOO MUCH rod and to awkward to use...felt like i needed a step stool to stand on to use the dang thing LoL LoL ..guess i'll stick with my (very) old BPS Tourney Special 6' 6'' Heavy for the hvy punching stuff and go with what you have recommended,, and use my MH 7' 1'' 3/8oz-1oz w/8:1 for the edges and outside punch'n . 🤟
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
You're heading in the right direction Dan. Adjust your rods to your body and style you punch. As long as the rod can pull fish from heavy cover and it's comfortable for you to use, it's fine.

Nice Information.. I guess I need better presentation. Gotta get a heavy rod. I have only used a 1oz weight. That hyacinth is thick. Amazon here I come lol
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
Uh-oh.
@michael2one
@michael2one Год назад
This has been one of the best explanations of punching. When you showed the bottom of the hyacinth it was such a revelation. One question. Aside from frog, it seems like the main difference between the 3 rods is a the weight. Could i use a streamline removal weight system so I don't need so many rods?
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
A quick change weight system will work. The only thing you will not have is a rod with a in like hook to use for the worm rig. As long as you are thinking about your most efficient rigg to fish the water thats in front of you, you are on the right track. Good luck.

Steve thanks for the tips. Went out 9/10 caught 1 good one punching 1.5 oz with a d bomb. Senko, spinner baits, No frog fish, but need to set up the lite punch with a worm. Do you have a go to worms for that technique?
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
Hi Dan, sorry for the late reply. I like a kut tail worm or a worm that has some curl at the tail to add slight action.

Steve, do you have any recommendations as to where to launch? We will be coming from the Santa Rosa area.
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
Hey Jeremy if you send me your contact info I will give you a call. Lot's of options. If I know how long you will be on the river and your experience level I can set you up with a better plan.
@retflo2583
@retflo2583 Год назад
Steve, what hook are you using with that third rod, 3/4 to 1 oz ? Thanks for the information
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
Thanks for the question Ret. I use a standard worm hook like the Gamakatsu off set round bend worm hook. The weight depends on the day-usually around 3/4 oz. It's primarily a heavey T/rig for outside edges. If it can't penetrate the vegetation I go to my light punch rod. The heavey T/rig with the worm hook allows me to use worm style bait, don't forget the 7in Robo worm in MM. That bait catches lots of fish and it seldom gets punched.

What's your opinion about punching with Tokyo rig?
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
I like the tokyo rig and it has it's place on the Delta. I like it better in the winter when i'm fishing slower and deeper and the vegatation is a little more sparse. I really like it on NM and the other motherlode lakes.
@tonyl3461
@tonyl3461 Год назад
Two questions, 1) What knot do you use to tie the hook on? and 2) why use 55-65 lb braid if you are using a 20 lb leader?
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
Hi Tony, First off the knots. If I use a in line worm hook or an EWG hook I use a palamar knot. If I use a standard punch hook I use a snell knot. If I use a 20 lb leader I just use the the same braid that I have on the reel which is usually 55 to 65 lb. That way I can go back and forth. Remember I tend to use 3 or 4 punch type rods from light to heavy and I may go from using strait braid to braid to leader and back to braid all in the same day. Thanks for watching and let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Steve - in several of your videos when referring to mat types you mention “cheese spots”. Please explain further. Thanks.
@indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
Hi Smoky, check out duck weed on google. This is a surface vegetation that grows in the delta. Once you see it you will know exactly what were talking about. This stuff is a magnet for bass. Thanks for the question. Give me a holler any time
