I was surpised and a bit sad it didn’t end up with Tilly and Fifi reconciling. But in the other hand, it feels realistic and I like that. Some damage is just too much…some things just can’t be resolved.
At first I was too but as I thought about it more, it made sense. Tilly has to realize she's done wrong in the first place to reconcile but I don't think her ego will allow it... not this early at least.
@@LvXGameMaster The issue from what I could tell wasn't that she went solo, the wrongdoing was how she went about it during her leaving. She threw out everything that tied her to her "friends" and was happy to gloat about it to Fifi, basically rubbing salt in the wound. Sure, throwing away the stuff wasn't great, but it could've been excused as not having the space in a possible new apartment/house but that clearly wasn't why she was tossing it, she was gleefully happy to be throwing out the stuff by choice to forget about it and by proxy them. She essentially used every one of them until something better came up, then behind everyone's backs but Fifi, who she told face-to-face: "Wow, finally I'm being recognized, that was never gonna happen with you losers" She laughed about finally no longer "being held back" by the rest of the group then to add further insult to injury cut all contact from the group and refused to reach back out even if she had the time to likely because she didn't see them as friends part way through or maybe even at all. How would you feel if your best friend started a hobby with you because it was near and dear to you both, got a bunch of people involved and then the moment an opportunity came decided to drop you like garbage, insult you and anyone who worked with you on it then laughed in your face about doing it to begin with?
Really good animation work for something done in university, and the premise is a really solid one, enough intrigue and implied history without hurting the pacing for a one-shot work. Definitely something all involved should be proud of having made, and hope they get a chance to revisit it.
Unless Fifi is an unreliable narrator of what happened, Tilly seems like a jerk. Both in the flash back and on stage. Going solo is fine. Not telling people and throwing out memorabilia in front of their face as if to say "you're trash now" is not cool. And telling someone you're doing a favor by gracing them with your presence and talent is just ego.
Saberspark sent me, great work! Love the character designs, the dynamic lighting and color and of course, the music! I know there's lots of us here that would love to see more and count me in to that as well.
This was so amazing, and when they did a little internal music battle it reminded me of FimEG battle of the bands movie. Loved the fight at the end, and I hope more gets made.
I think the story is sort of straight forward from the visual queues and some the joke after that first punch. Tilly was 'carrying' the band and had more fans than the rest of her band mates. She went Solo, was able to get a big career as the rest of her band mates sort of fell apart. Fifi blamed herself, but finally had the balls to give Tilly what most men would do in this position; punch them to reality. I can even tell Tilly HAD fans from the 'ILY Tilly' until they saw the fight and replaced it with 'ILY Fi Fi.' There isn't much after to tell unless we are referring to what they do after this reunion. Which if true, would be nice to see a cartoon series; but noone is buying up new shows and while I'm all for supporting indie animation such as Lack-a-daisy, Hazbin Hotel, Monkey Wrench, no studio is interested in buying new animation as hollywood has fallen apart, literally. .... Maybe they should if enough people give them encouragement go into indie.
This feels like a pilot for a potential adult or YA animated series (ala King of the Hill where its not focused on shock value and heavy uses of swearing) that I would totally be down on seeing. I would happily take this over any Family Guy Clone anyday! Hope this becomes a reality in the future because I really like the art style for this short. Somebody send this short to Saberspark for this to gain more traction!
Love all their themes. Fifi being a rockSTAR. Tilly the moon, stars closest companion in the sky but still so different. Janice the sweet shining sun. Darcy the mellow cloud that’s ready for any kind of weather. They’re all things part of the sky.
TYSM!! It means a lot that you noticed those details! I was the character design lead for this film and the meaning with those little symbols were very intentional :D
The plot of this kind of feels like it was something personal for the writer, since the plot doesn't really follow any particular structure and kind of just... ends, which aligns more with a real-world experience than that of a short story.
I thought Fifi was the one who ruined the friendship and tried to reconcile with Tilly with Darcy pointing fingers at Fifi, but during the flash back I was surprised it was Tilly who ruined the friendship not Fifi and I believed those finger points was at Tilly. Edit: I guess everyone thought the same thing as well, judging by the comments.
Tilly is such a b*tch ngl, like I understand wanting to pursue your career but not even bothering to reach out to your friends in years? Like from what we see in the backstory Fifi and gang didnt do anything wrong to her for her to spite them.
Darcy points their fingers to the right, which is where Tilly is standing. They're also closer to Darcy's eye height, not pointing down and to the left (which would be pointing toward Fifi). So Darcy WAS giving Tilly a look.
During the flashback 3:55 Fifi was jealous of Tilly. And during the performance 3:02 Fifi again got jealous of Tilly when Tilly got the fans attention. It's possible that Fifi was toxic and pushed Tilly out.
I thought the same since it's kinda a gliche in these kind of short animations that the optimistic and in the majority of cases pink or "kind" species of animal to ruin the friendship
Fifis voice actress did such an amazing job when she yelled at Tilly. You can feel the anger and heartbreak. The stomping with the echoing, since they are in an underground stage room, makes it seem like as if you are right there. I love cartoons, alternative music and drama, I would pay money for this to evolve into something more than a short.
6:48 Needless to say Tilly brought this on herself in the end because of her selfishness . . .🚓 And I know once she gets out of jail people are going to give her the cold stairs after finding out who she really is
@@LvXGameMaster Tilly is such a b*tch ngl, like I understand wanting to pursue your career but not even bothering to reach out to your friends in years? Like from what we see in the backstory Fifi and gang didnt do anything wrong to her for her to spite them. Ofc punching them was too far but she got it coming to her, when you neglect your friends, one of them will eventually snap
@@LvXGameMaster Maybe, but Tilly ended up her friendship with her best friend over a solo music career and left her even called the band bad, even when Fifi was being friendly and tried to work things out, Tilly started to treat her like trash, even getting somewhat physical (pushing her and stuff), even if they didn't end in good terms, she didn't had the need to insult her friend and tell her she was "clingy" and start fighting her
@@LvXGameMasterThat doesn't mean she should hit back bro she was choking fifi too!!!, which could have killed Fifi 6:11 and Fifi tried to reconnect with Tilly, but no, she had to be all prideful and be a bitch about it
@@milkandcookies4229 Well the problem is we only see the relationship from one side, Fifi's. We don't see Tilly's side of things. We don't know how much of a connection they really had. Tilly COULD be right, and Fifi is remembering the times they spend together as better than they were. Also when they meet up again after years, the first thing Fifi brings up is Tilly's last performance, which apparently went really bad. Of course Tilly's going to be defensive and mad about it. She called Fifi "clingy" when Fifi called her a "leech" ON STAGE IN PUBLIC and she only started fighting after a fist was swung. Fifi clearly has issues dealing with her emotions.
Hi!! I was the character design and animation lead for the film, we put so many fun little Easter eggs in this so I’ll compile all of them here for funsies :D 0:10 Nina from FMA in the window (sorry) 0:11 Brian Griffin, Davey and Whitey (8 crazy nights), Sonic and Chip, Sniper and Spy (tf2) 2:35 Star, Barkley and Mcfly (from the other Seneca films of this year!) 4:36 our prof Barney 5:29 Dan and Chris (Dan vs.) 6:15 Bandit Heeler (Bluey) 6:18 my dog Bongo :D 6:31 Jake from adventure time on the newspaper 6:49 Gaster from undertale lol (It’s a super Transparent png of him to the left of Tilly’s mugshot)
@@Alpha00Fox it's like practically invisible it honestly feels more like a hallucination than like it's actually there for me so idk if it's your phone
👏 Good cliffhanger ending. The 2D animation and artwork has such personality. For some reason I think Tilly's characterization is on point for a Doberman.
If this story gets a continuation, i pray and hope that Fifi will find someone who gives her the love and respect she deserves. She doesn't owe Tilly anything.
When fifi had that anger burst I saw myself some years ago. Instead of clenching my fist and walking away enraged, I used to burst in front of the person in question: didn't have to have pissed me off or teased me, it could have just been jealousy or someone who gets all the glory and tells you to deal with it. The running scene, the super rapid punch and then the realization that comes right after that. Your angry self was let out and satisfied and now your normal, lucid self has to deal with the situation you just caused. If everybody ignored you before and focused on the one you punched, but at least wasn't mad at you, now everybody is booing at you instead. I know it might sound simple, but it's something I only realized when I felt that and I could resonate better
@@gothnerd887 i had to force myself. I'm a pretty impulsive guy, so whenever I'm safe and nobody is around and I have built up anger/high levels of stress (like when I'm home) I rather talk angrily and maybe even throw a punch or I just break down. No matter what method my mind decides is best, it only lasts around 20 minutes. They are intense, but still 20 minutes or less. It doesn't happen everytime I'm angry or stressed out, but at least my mind now automatically knows when it's time to do anything in this process. At the very beginning, I just had to force myself, as I said. I heard one of those people I hated (wouldn't call them bullies, but almost that) and instead of letting my instincts have the better, I just clenched my fist and breathed heavily. He noticed it and laughed, but then the subject changed. I didn't exactly wanna do that, but at least I tried cause I know the bus driver and everybody else around would have left me alone in the wrong. From that day on, I blatantly ignored everything they said, unless it was important or related to others. If any other person on the bus insisted that I should listen to them cause they were calling, I'd have rather stayed silent or simply said "I know and I'm not interested, thank you". Some thought I was awkward, but everything went smoothly from that moment on. This also worked at school
Someone needs to get this to SaberSpark ASAP! This needs more traction! Please make this a reality! I would love to see this as a full length movie or tv show! Major Scott Pilgrim vibes and I'm LIVING for it! I need more Punk'd Pooch!
This honestly hits rlly close to home, lost my best friend of 4 years because she left me not even for a career but for her boyfriend. It feels like she never valued all that time we spent together and just left me for a guy she just met
That is very common nowadays your not alone .. my old best friend left me for zero 2 ..atleast that was his excuse till i found out he also just wanted to be glued to his girl
Unfortunately, in real life as you start getting significant others you do stray from your friends, mostly because of the bonding time. And over time, you start to realize some things about those you knew and yourself.
You know, this makes me think of the 3 Dog Band cartoon short from Cartoon Network’s old Cartooninsitute. I wonder if there would be a crossover between Punk’d Pooch and 3 Dog Band one day? That would be cool.
Excellent work! I'm glad those two didn't reconcile, as Tilly 100% has WAY too much going on psychologically to see what she's done in the span of a single night.
@@ferrospr1ng They are both girls so i guess yeah they would share a cell, unless because of how they got there they will put them in different ones.
As a dog enthusiast i actually loved this short film sm DOGS?!?! IN A BAND?!?! I love the art style and the animation it's truly phenomenal! I'd actually LOVE to see this (or something similar) as a full blown series one day!! Great work :DD
Yo this was a great watch, absolutely rad, major props to all involved! Also I saw some of those easter egg/cameos in the first shot just before Fifi showed up heheh!
THE SCREAM I LET OUT WHEN IT ENDED LIKE HOLY SHIT I AM *FROTHING* AT THE MOUTH TO SEE MORE OF THEIR STORY LIKE HOLT SHIT not only that, the animation and character design is so nice to look at dude! You should gen make this a show if you ever felt to one day, id 100% be a supporter
I saw that Blue hedgehog in the beginning you can't hide it from me. Love this so much honestly and I thought I would get second hand embarrassment from the fight in public but I glad the crowd played into the rough housing. very well done
I would love to see this as a show (like other people are saying in the comments), the only thing though is that this particular short could work as like a 2 parter episode of some kind, seeing an old member come back into the picture and maybe the poodle character is one of our main characters who ends up pushing a friend aside who may of not been part of the band for as long and maybe could include the idea that maybe the poodle ends up coming to the realization that the former member is only back to use the band and that she's sorry to the other friend for casting her aside for someone who she thought she can be friends with again and go on about the true meaning of friendship. And importantly, NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE AN ADULT ANIMATED SHOW. People in the comments saying it should be and saying cringe comments like "oh, adult swim should pick this up". Don't we get enough animated show for adults as it is? I get there's shows aimed at kids and families, but either they're adult shows in disguise as kids shows or they're very lame kids shows with zero effort put into writing good characters and good stories. This kind of emotion and idea the short presents would make a good show for kids.
I think we all know someone like Tilly: they think they're so great and all of their bandmates (or just friends and family) are holding them back. Then at the reunion, they make it clear they're "doing everyone a favor just by showing up" and refusing to admit that they were wrong, all while acting like a defensive, smug jerk the whole time. Honestly, I'd say Fifi and the other 2 should reform their band without Tilly, and work hard to become the biggest success ever. Then in 10-20 years at the next reunion, they'll ask Tilly, "Who was holding who back?"
6:15 IS THAT DAN AND CHRIS?!? DAN VS REFERENCE?! LETS GOOO!!! Also this animation was AMAZING, really good story and nice character design. I wish it was full show!
Well, that didn't end quite the way I was expecting. I was expecting the wholesome "power of friendship" ending that you usually see in cartoons like this. It's refreshing to be surprised for a change.
Interesting show but the Fifi and TIlly's personalities seem to switch mid performance. In the dressing room Tilly is aggressive towards Fifi, as if she has a reason to resent Fifi for some reason and tells her to stay out of her way. Then while playing it gets revealed that Tilly left the band to go solo and Fifi gets angry at Tilly and starts a fight. IT seems like Fifi has more reason to be angry at Tilly so why was she so hesitant at the beginning? Also is the Borzoi a dude or a chick? I can't tell.
I really liked this short film, would love to see more of it and love the designs of these characters and the short story it told felt realistic especially with its ending. 👏
Charlie: pim they just fired two members of punk pooch and they're looking for replacements. They can't replace Fifi and Tilly like that it's their band. Pim: I don't know after that fight they seem pretty controversial. Charlie: yeh unfairly they need our help more then ever. Mr boss: have you seen Allan and glep? I don't think they came into work today. Charlie and pim: no we haven't seen them
This type of behavior is why I'm alone. No one can hurt you, or gang up on you, when your alone. No one can be offended by miscommunication or misinterpretation, and empty apologies without changed behavior don't happen. Life is easier alone.
When I first watch it. I kind of knew that Tilly was the one who thought no one else or the band but herself and her career. I feel connected to Fifi who wants to ber friends and the band back together but is impossible. I wonder if the will be more episodes of The Punk’d Pooch? I love it!!!!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎹🎹🎹🎹🎹
This short film is packed with emotional tension and interpersonal conflict, creating a powerful story of friendship, betrayal, and unresolved feelings. From the beginning, there's an underlying tension between the band members, particularly between Tilly and the others, making it clear that something has been brewing for a while. Tilly’s defensive, almost bitter attitude toward Fifi’s concern showcases the depth of her inner turmoil and struggle with balancing fame, friendship, and self-worth. The big confrontation on stage is intense, with Tilly revealing her true feelings, and Fifi calling her out for using the band to further her solo career. This climactic moment unravels years of repressed emotion, with Tilly’s solo ambition driving her to a breaking point that risks destroying the band’s unity. The abrupt shift from performance to conflict, and the subsequent chaos, is symbolic of how unresolved personal issues can boil over at the worst times. Tilly’s realization that she’s gone too far, coupled with the band's turmoil, leaves the audience wondering if their friendship can ever be repaired. It’s a raw and dramatic look at how fame and personal ambitions can tear relationships apart, and it’s crafted in a way that keeps the viewers on edge throughout. It’s a story of regret, but also one that leaves room for potential redemption.
