@@colindubord4239 Simple math shows it has more filter media than a filter with the same depth pleats that are straight across the filter - 4 x 66 = 264 square inches and this filter has 336 square inches. Maybe somewhere 336 is less than 264 but not here.

Not %100 but Purlux is made by Sogefi / Fram ! a joint venture since 1984 ! I seen on " bob is the oil guy " site ! Not all purlux oil filters have the chevron pleating so it may be model specific ! I also would recommend more frequent oil changes ! That oil looked pretty crummy ! All n All cool video ! 👍👍

Owned by sogefi. Quality of some items has declined in the last few years. Some items they make 2 different versions of, example ls867b they replaced the high quality made in France version with generic cheapo far East (Indonesia?) copy with straight pleats. However they do still make the original in France now part number ls867by and the price has also almost tripled. They produce some oem stuff, fuel filter housing was sogefi made on my dad's car, fram and purflux oem filters were identical with a cheaper option also available. Had a uk made purflux air filter fail badly in less than a year, foam split and let all kinds of grit pass. Another for a different vehicle was split in a seam/pleat from factory. In summary, made in France purflux good, otherwise look elsewhere.

Oil so dark, looks like it's off a diesel engine? If not, one of the blackest post use gas engine oils I've seen. Typical Purflux using chevron pleating. Folks like to say it allows for more media area, but I've always wondered if more straight tight uniform pleats wouldn't/couldn't fit in same area. Deep thoughts.😃 Purflux looks to be well made filter, but imagine on expensive side. With that be nice to have an efficiency rating. Thanks for vid.

Definitely a very well made filter. The anti drain back looks like Kmart evolved. 😂 As for that oil, running that weight of oil. I'm surprised. I understand it was a BL product, but usually don't go past HD30 or 10-40. Thinner oil might help the soot.

The MG’s call for 20w50 actually. I use 15w50 because I try to take it out early Spring and put it away late Fall. But my oil was very dirty for under 3k. Flushing is to risky for this old motor.

@@colindubord4239 I'm surprised it would call for something so heavy. I mean seriously baffled, that is heavier than what the service manual called for in my 1948 Ford 2N tractor. The way it looks to me seems like holding way too much debries with a cheapest quality and poor design .The oil pump could've been by now contaminated with a little % on oil pam. I would suggest the owner of this car to use higher quality of filters to clean that emgine and oil change of 3K miles or less to mantain more lube and cleaness in the piston rings. I bet the oil pam is as much dirty as the filter condition 😬

My $1 Auto-Xtra filter from Rock Auto hit 1 year old today in my 5.4L FX4. Just 2 more years to go before I plan to change the oil. I only drive that truck 800 miles a year, entirely highway. If I wasn't worried about the oil filters rusting through, I'd probably leave them in there for a full 5000 miles.
@davidwalker7383
@davidwalker7383 6 месяцев назад
Not a very smart idea at all. There's a reason manufacturers say "or every six months". The fuel that bypasses your pistol rings into the oil will be rotten way before your "2 more years" is up. Varnish from rotten gas isn't a lubricate at all. It actually can be very abrasive and wipe your bearing out prematurity.
