I've joined Michelle in her Sew Purple to End Alzheimers challenge this year!
We've both made the Style Arc Besharl Jacket. www.stylearc.c...
I made mine in a size 20 in Wool Viscose Lana Bolito from Rick Rack Textiles. www.rickrackte...
The Challenge:
· Sew something in a predominantly purple fabric (solid or print, any shade)
· Does NOT have to be a garment, can be an accessory, craft, home décor, etc
· Post pic on IG between Sept 1 and Sept 30
· Use hashtag #sewpurpletoendalz22 (make sure to include the 22 to distinguish from last year’s entries)
· Tag @therealmichellesewsagain

Thanks so much for joining in this challenge Megan. It’s so great Michelle started this challenge. It’s been so helpful for spreading awareness. I’ve managed to dedicate my own purple makes and #sewpurpletoendAlz22 vlogs to our own family’s experiences with my parents who also had Alzheimer’s Disease, and have used the opportunity to drop in a couple of tips on what we found helpful. Your jacket came out SO cute - I love the fabric! I ended up having to change the fabric I was going to use - I was getting too frustrated cutting that stretch velvet 🤣. You are right about the pockets - I didn't even think about calling that out. I agree - making it in a lighter weight fabric would be great for spring. Thank you SO much for partnering with me on this challenge. I'm so grateful to you. And I had fun making this jacket 😊💜💜💜

The jacket colour is gorgeous and looks great on you. Can you adjust the bottom upturn of the pocket to close a little more and keep your phone in there without fear ? Good for our upcoming cooler Canadian weather :)

Beautiful color. I've made this jacket twice. After the first time I omitted the pockets because they hung down below the hem and I also doubled the width of the collar so that it folded and draped better. It's good to see it on RU-vid as I think if you tweek it a bit its a great pattern.

This looks beautiful on you... as soon as you mentioned the pocket placement I thought they could go into the seam of the shawl collar n the bottom of the that seaming would form the pocket bag (like the Love Notions Metra Blazer) the material sound scrumptious n the seam at the outside of the shawl collar adds a more structured approach which I like... great job... very cozy... blessings

Great project. Similar to the wiksten haori pattern which I made 2 years ago. That jacket has huge deep patch pockets that are great for holding phones, tissues, keys and cold hands 😉. Great for 🇨🇦 fall walks. I have been following along Michelle's challenge and entered a couple of purple sewing projects. I contacted my local Alzheimer's and dementia support group and made a contribution through them. As our population ages this diagnosis is on the rise so its a great cause.
