Given that caimans are often thought of as mini versions of alligators and crocodiles (even though the black caiman is one of the largest crocodilians on earth), many might find it ironic that the biggest crocodilian of all time was a caiman.

Well considering caiman are of the suborder alligatoride they are technically alligators however modern salt water crocs have been around 40 million years they were alongside other crocodilians and outlived them. As for caiman largely the species is of a smaller size as only the black caiman exceeds 5 feet but no they aren't even close to the largest for the most past alligators outgrow black caiman. By weight alone.

Ik this is old but my point still stands "Bite force greater than T.rex" That's debatable, maybe in the original paper that suggested purussaurus bite force was 69,000 newtons, but that was already corrected to 52,000 newtons in 2015, approximately in the middle of the newest rex bite force estimates ( 35-65k newtons ). So it's safe to say the bite strengths overlapped. Although, purussaurus had a greater bite force pound to pound with tyrannosaurus, since it was only 6.2 tons in weight.

I feel there had to be something more going on to kill off most Dinosaurs (except birds) because how did lizards, amphibians, and other temperamental animals survive the k9 extinction and the ice ages?
@sidgar1
@sidgar1 Год назад
The catastrophic event plunged the Earth into an extended dark winter. Many species of plant life perished, which lead to the herbivores dying, followed by their predators. The largest animals died off first, while the smaller ones didn't need as much food to survive. Which is how they made it through the extinction event.

I would love to see a video of Xenosmilus Hodsona ..the other sabertooth cat with robust teeth instead of fragile teeth. It was a large sabertooth with a bite like a great white shark. Called the"cookie cutter" cat because when it bit it took out large chunks of flesh and it's prey died quickly from blood loss or shock. The bones of this cat was discovered here in Florida near where I live and I am surprised most people have never heard of it. Possibly larger than the commonly known sabertooth cats..it was a killing machine. Large, strong, and muscled..it was a awesome creature and one not to be forgotten to history.

@fartoocritical9409
@fartoocritical9409 3 года назад
"Now, 90 pounds of food a day may not seem like a lot" Because, for its size, its really not. The caiman weighed as much as an elephant which require 400 pounds of food a day. Purussaurus didn't even require a quarter of the food that an elephant needs. I believe it sat quite comfortably in its niche as an apex because it had the sheer size and immense bite force to eat *any* prey animal on the landscape, be it from giant turtles or ground sloths. That's honestly what makes this actual "Lake Placid" such a cool animal to me as it was the unquestionable king of northern Miocene South America, and that entire part of the continent was essentially its dinner plate.

@@NORTH02 yes true but titanoboa battled purusaurus and there's a documentary of it. Titanoboa was a big rival for this crocodile, either way amazing video and keep up the good work.
@NORTH02
@NORTH02 5 лет назад
Titanoboa didn't live anywhere near purusaurus in terms of time. Titanoboa lived form 60-58 million years ago while purussaurus lived from 20 to 5 million years ago. They did not compete and they were not rivals. You probably watched some stupid documentary that was just trying to capitalize off of people interested in the past rather than presenting real scientific facts.

I think that it’s just like the pythons with the alligators they would not mess around with the adults they would go after juveniles so in this whatever scenario Titanoboa would go after juveniles but not sub or adults Two big
