No one should shame you for getting excited to be a homeowner and getting to do the work you want to on the place. Don't get overwhelmed with all the different ideas you have in mind for it, take your time and just do 1 project at a time. Can't wait to see all the other videos of the progress you will make.

I very much enjoy your videos. You are exactly where I was years ago. I bought a small house that needed work. Eventually got married, had two kids, and sold that house for over double what I paid, because of the improvements I had done over time, little by little. You are on the right track. Keep at it big guy.

Ha Dalton, doing an interesting job. When you finally get the wall done you can look at a job well done. It don’t hurt to take a break every so often. If you never try that the moment you would regret.

Talking about backing out.. I can see you pulling into the existing spot where the tow behind is parked, backing up to the "Upper driveway, turn and head straight out to the road. That's what we did because we lived on a very busy road.

It is true that railroad ties will eventually decay. However, it will not be from termites or other insects . Those ties are boiled in chemical treatment to resist damage from bugs . You will get many years of use from these .

Brand of tool one uses does not ,it is you as the user that makes or fails the project. I have run all brands of cordless power tool,run what ever tool fits you and most availible in your area ,no one perfect, . Go buy a good corded drilll for heavy drilling. I am seeing a amazing joy growing as you make this property yours. Pace thy self and do not ge into a rush and the body will last alot longer. I run Kobalt and Craftsman battery tools,The Kobalt 24 battery 7 1/4 miter is a must have for doing carpentry since it is the only miter saw in battery I know of that is dual bevl miter saw. Look into baterry nailers they make life easier. You dont have to focus on one project and do it to complete,it is some times better to take a break from one project and do something else lighter and keep progress going. Proud of you ,Keep the amazing work going Brother.

Hey Dalton, I'm from Australia, and we do not use DEADMAN. We just use the railway sleeper as a post in a vertical position for instance if your wall is 3 ft high we will place the railway sleeper 3 ft in the hole with concrete maybe worth looking into your next retaining wall
@FuZioNxYT
@FuZioNxYT Месяц назад
Always use a deadman support, if you don’t your putting way to much stress on a vertical post in my opinion

I have rebuilt the damn thing 5 times already and its currently not running because i decided i wanted it more permanent so it can still run through winter without damage. Hey Dalton..... Every is looking great! I look at the retaining wall as adding either more space to turn your trucks around, or, also, to make a bed for stubs to hide the driveway. Since you have the upper field, you could make a not so steep addition to the driveway to make additional spaces where you have your other trucks parked. with a little leveling it would be perfect.

Doing great, Dalton! I'm wondering would it have been feasible to have started the wall in front of that oak tree - it'd made the turning area much bigger. I know nothing about this thing but would it even have been possible to start just at that storages retaining wall? It's neither here nor there 😅 as you're near a home run with your current wall. You're some pup! Woah! Your grandfather is amazing for his age - that's what hard work does, it keeps you active and a sense of purpose. You'll be just like him, ima guess😅(southern accent)😊

I can do what I want at my own pace, it's productive, and I see the very result of my work, and it's a workout. Before I did this I always had to do something else for a hobby, tear down and rebuild some old car ot whatever. Like this I can do something useful for myself. Dalton, enjoy being a home owner. The more you improve your place the more value it becomes. I’ve watched you stand those tie’s up and the I more I look at those tie’s more I believe you have switch tie’s and if so they are heavy. I worked a short time on the railroad and I carried a lot of new tie’s around and they were not all that heavy. Just take your time moving them around so you do not hurt yourself.

Looks really really good, I think it was the right thing to do, building this wall, it’s going to make the top of the driveway area look bigger and wider. It would have been much easier with landscape timbers versus railroad ties. The landscape timbers were probably more costly, you probably saved some money there and used less of them, they are just harder and heavier to deal with. Your hard work is starting to show Dalton, it’s exciting!

I have built those railroad retaining walls a time or two. We would just drill down maybe 2 or 3 inches then use a longer 12inch peice of rebar. We would just use a sledge and hammer them down. It does risk cracking those railroad ties but honestly never had a problem. It also felt so strong with the longer rebar that would go through all the way and into the other one very securely. Its alot of work though. And your sledgehammer game has to be on point. Broke a sledge from missing to much and chiseled away below the base or the sledge and it eventually broke off the whole top peice haha.

😊😊 I love the way you do your videos in other videos all you see is Barely any talking and fast forward through the whole video They don't explain anything that's why I like your videos I like how you tell what you're doing and how you're doing it And I can't wait to see when you're all done Anyways You were wondering about treating railroad ties i found this for you [ railroad ties are treated with an oil-based preservative, such as creosote, to protect them from decay, insects, and water. Creosote is a carbon-based petroleum that's formed by distilling tars or pyrolyzing plant-derived materials like wood or fossil fuels. Unlike water, which evaporates, oil doesn't dry, which helps to seal the wood's surface and prevent water getting in to the wood i have had them in my yard for 40 years and just in the last 5 years i had to treat them with bug spray spiders love them and so do ants I do know it has helped with that they do break down on the ends so treating the cut off ends again would probably be a good idea

@@marchingmoto I used 8x8 timbers as a wall at $60 a piece and after only 3 years they are all warped and twisted, I thought for sure they'd last longer than that. The only semi-permanent solution is concrete or those stackable wall blocks but the cost is crazy for both. The work of a home owner is never done, good luck with the wall hope it turns out the way you want.

A lot of railroad ties are soaked with creosote which makes them heavier but resistant to bugs and rot. Ive been enjoying your work on the place. It seems lately you have been talking more than working which is less appealing to me. Maybe try put the camera on fast frame and talk about job after a part is done. Today was lots of talking an not as much work. Just an observation.

@@marchingmoto After a long day at work, doing extra on your project home is a lot, I get that. Good for you for pushing through. Im just giving constructive criticism that it seems much of your videos are talking and not working. Maybe a better balance would be more appealing to viewers. I like the content, just less talk please

Anyway now at 65 I switched to being a finish carpenter at 50 from a LE background. I hv been hurt pretty significant 2 times while an officer! However I chose Carpentry to fulfill a passion ( my dad was a contractor home builder) and stay healthy! I could have taught in my profession I hv a degree & credential however; I took about a 50 G minimum pay cut yet I am really joyous I choose this! I hold a contractor license and even at my age I am up everyday 4-4:30 am and by 6:30 building hustling & learning ! So young man stay in shape meaning exercise for a lifestyle, eat good, supplements, find a nice lady, and most important?? Know your creator and attend a great Church that is God’s Church? Darling, sorry and don't want to hurt your feelings, but I am a blunt person and want your RU-vid channel to succeed, so here goes. I suggest that you record more of your actual work, instead of sitting and talking about it for 20-30 minutes. Keep the videos less than 20 minutes. Less than 15 is even better. You will get more "How To do things better" input and viewers who will learn from your processes and mistakes. Sincerely, 🧓

I have a lot more people asking for longer videos with more talking than people like you. I’m following the majority feedback. I do plan to edit all of these into 1 short video in the end though as an overall retaining wall build video for everyone who doesn’t like this style
