Puss in Boots 2 is SO GOOD YOU GUYS OMG 

The scene where Perrito lays on Puss when he’s having a panic attack was so touching.

I love that this movie has an antagonist for everyone. Goldi as the sympathetic antagonist. Jack as the pure evil antagonist. The Wolf as the force-of-nature antagonist.

My favorite joke: "Excalibur!! Yeah I couldn't get this rock off it but it's still pretty cool right?" I died on that part 😂

To quote a friend: "When Puss drank that coffee and started moving in 24 fps, I knew it was watching a good movie"

It’s so funny how the villains went from silly egg to the literal unrelenting personification of death itself

I love how they resolved Puss and Softpaw's relationship issues. No unnecessarily dragged out drama, no added ridiculous misunderstanding to make the current problems even worse. It was mentioned in one scene and several scenes later they talked it out. They just talked it out.

I guess nobody noticed, but i just love how Puss and Kitty don't fight about their trust issues. Kitty is open to forgive Puss, and actually LISTENS to him when needed. No useless cliche misunderstandings

I'm sad he didn't mention the part where the dog sits on puss's lap and acts like a therapy dog while puss is panicking and can't get out of his head. that scene was really good, also I just like seeing how scared puss was, it makes it feel so real, since he's so fearless but this is the one thing he's truly terrified of.

Shit i just realized Look at goldilock's wish and the path that was given to her on its own. She wanted to wish for an actual family, so the map told her to stop and think because what she wants might already be in front of her, and then showed her their house. IN FACT, every time she tried to get out the path made her walk in circles, it was not the bear following the wrong trail. From the very beginning, HER path implied finding out the family she already had first to be able to get a wish. In the same manner, softpaws has the path of sorrows because she only wanted someone she could trust, puss in boots had the cave of loneliness because he was supposed to realize that he didnt need to be alone. It makes me wonder what Big Jack Horner's map and path would have looked like.

A cool thing about the movie is that Death actually stopped chasing Puss when he went to Mama Luna. It's not like Death couldn't find him. HE'S DEATH. He is everywhere all at once. But once he realized Puss decided to settle and accepted his mortality, he stopped. He decided to let Puss live out his life in Peace. Puss spent days or maybe even weeks at Mama Luna's house. And Death never came. It's only when Puss decided to try get the wish that Death realized his mistake. Puss hasn't changed and wanted to cheat him again. He almost immidieatly returns to the chase and finds Puss VERY quickly. He thinks at this point that Puss will never change. He will end this no matter what. In his last scene he asks Puss if he knows that they'll meet again, to make sure Puss has changed. Once Puss agrees, Death knows he can let that cat of the hook.

Puss in the forest having a full panic attack only to be calmed by one of the previously established side characters really hit me hard. That level of story telling in a movie like this is unheard of. This movie never treats its audience like children, despite being seemingly marketed for them. Very mature story telling with little to no hand holding.

Fun fact: you'll notice the only main character that didn't get a wanted poster (or in Perrito's case an unwanted poster) was death. Because, you can't capture or kill death

This movie is actually RESPECTFUL to its audience and doesnt treat the audience like they're stupid. They dont do the whole "tell dont show" thing that have plagued a lot of animated movies over the last decade. The scene with Puss running into the forest having a panic attack and Perrito getting a chance to be the therapy dog he wanted to be was SUCH a good moment. The character acting was phenomenal, and they did such a good job showcasing what panic attacks like that can do to people and the process of calming down from one. What makes it so good though is that they don't spoonfeed you any of that information. Perrito doesn't go "wow, I get to be the therapy dog now!" It's simply just implied and forces the viewer to think more for themselves. Makes the plot way more memorable as a result since it "forces" the viewer to callback in their memory to that moment. It's absolutely criminal that this movie isn't doing better numbers in the box office.

In addition to the paint brush animation, I was super impressed with how easily it combined with the texture details. The fact that Puss's eyes were large, cartoony green while his fur is hyperdetailed and life-like fit together surprisingly perfectly

as a theater employee you'll be happy to know that the love for this movie is still going strong even today

I cannot describe to you how genuinely scared I got hearing a person slowly whistling in the AMC theater bathroom after the movie ended

took my kids to see this in theaters based on this review alone. This movie is phenomenal. It has no business being as good as it is but I’m thankful for it.

The fun thing is that everyone kinda got their wish despite not making one. - Goldie wanted a family, and she learned she already had one. - Kitty wanted someone she could trust, and she met one. - Puss wanted his lives back, and he got one that was worth eight more. - Wolf wanted to see an arrogant, death-defying prick die. And he did. Purrito didn't really have a wish, but one could argue that attaining comradery was a wish he didn't know he wanted. Jack didn't really get his wish (unless you consider magic coarsing through his body and killing him), but that makes sense since he's, as Jimminy puts it, an irredeemable monster. This movie is a fucking masterpiece.

One thing I noticed about the movie that not a lot of people talk about is the relationship between Goldie and her mom, the mom cares immensely about Goldie and only wants the best for her even when she knows about her wish, their relationship displays a deep mother-daughter bond that seems genuine and real.

this is one of dreamworks’ most mature movies. this movie has mild curses, really dark themes, a bit of blood, emotional moments, etc. this is the most unique movie they have made in a long time and it fits into my personal top 5 best dreamworks movies. i cannot wait for the future of this studio they have really outdone themselves this time. 👏

It's good to see him be happy about an animated movie in 2022, it only took to the end to do so

As someone with a very intense fear of death, sitting in that theatre and realising that Puss was having a literal panic attack thinking he was going to die hit a nerve I did not expect walking into that movie...

Honestly, my favourite part was Death. It's such a breath of fresh air to have a villain be an actual threat to the heroes, to have the villain traumatize and scar the heroes just by showing up, rather than have the heroes mock and prank them for the sake of comedy. It legit spooked me every time Death showed up, calmly whistling his tune as he stalked Puss.

It's always a delight to see Schafrillas be so pleasantly surprised.

“You’re not gonna shoot a puppy, are you Jack?” “Yeah, in the face, why?” I love Jack Horner, it’s been a while since we’ve had a character who’s just indulgently evil.

I was almost crying from laughing during the jiminy cricket scenes watching him slowly lose his mind was so hilarious to me.

One detail I love about this movie is how when Death says that he was there when Puss lost a life, he isn’t lying. At 5:48, when Puss was fighting the giant which ultimately lead to one of his deaths, you can SEE Death in the top left corner behind the crowd.

The messages in the movie about dealing with mortality, not running from past trauma, and learning to value family, was really really something that I needed when I saw it last night. My dad died recently, and I've been facing down the barrel of trauma from other things that have happened at this time of the year in previous years. And it's been so overwhelming. This movie really helped me find some comfort with it all. And I am not disappointed at all by it.

Obviously his movie is visually gorgeous but i think the biggest praise i can offer it is that i never cringed or groaned at a single joke. None of the comedy relies on contemporary references, there’s no lines that i felt were stupid. It was all just really solid comedy, and Perrito and Jack were a goddamn goldmine of comedy.

"Into the Spider-verse" is the single best thing to happen to 3d animated films since Toy Story. Seriously, these new films trying to capture that hand-drawn aesthetic have been remarkably beautiful and much better than the "realistic as possible" march since the beginning.

I felt similar about how long Puss stayed in "retirement", but I think it was important because it emphasized how humbled and absolutely terrified he was after his encounter with Death. His character went in the complete opposite direction, and this was after he didn't even take the doctor seriously after it was revealed he had died and was on his last life. It shook him to his core, and it turned this cat who recklessly wasted 8 lives and was in no way ready to change, into one suddenly ok with living a life of boringness and mediocrity after just one scene.

I disagree about the retirement home part, I just really enjoyed puss acting like a normal cat hehe But also it’s fitting narratively, since that whole part is about him giving up his adventures and the excitement and settling for tedium and normalcy. The fact that that scene made some people a little bored meant we were feeling the same way puss was feeling during that time

The director of Croods 2 and Puss in Boots 2 is directing Kung Fu Panda 4. Hype!

It can't be stressed enough how amazing the Wolf is. He was terrifying, like Pyramid Head showing up in Shrek

It's depressing to think that the last movie review uploaded on the channel before the accident was for a film about valuing your life and the people around you to the fullest. Life is temporary and can be taken away from us at anytime, sometimes entirely out of our control. We may not be able to control certain outcomes in the future, but we can atleast use our time to be with friends and family as much as we can till then. If you're reading this James, I may not have any experience with losing friends and family, but I can emphasize with the thought of how painful it would be to lose someone you love. I hope you're able to pull through this event, even if you don't upload anymore; and I wish Chris and Patrick made the best out of their life.

The dog is impressive. He is an incredibly annoying character that is not at all annoying. He is supposed to be obnoxious but you can understand and respect it so there is no irritation. It’s genius

They made a cat WAY to relatable like damn. Im personally really scared of death, and seeing Puss facing his fears right to death's face, and accepting his last life hits HARD.

I never understood how everyone unanimously said “it’s so good you have to watch it” word for word, until I left the theatre and instantly said that to someone I knew hadn’t seen it. It’s like a spell.

DreamWorks has improved a lot in their animation ever since The Bad Guys. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish getting that same treatment was seriously needed for everyone. As far as anything, this is a good sign for DreamWorks of their future movies.

Things Puss and Spiververse have in common 1: Animating characters on 2's with background on 1's for effect 2: A villain who's size and shape is that of two full-size refrigerators strapped together under an expensive suit.

My grandma took me and my brother to the movie recently and we all agreed that it was an amazing movie that went way above our expectations.

I don't know if this is rude or not. But I really like the fact that Patrick at least had this beautiful movie to watch with his brother before he died. I still cannot believe that such a tragedy happened to you and to the people you love James.

I love the representation of puss's first ever experience with fear and how it sends him into a panic attack. I also really like how they accurately portrayed how a therapy dog helps it's owner.

The wolf is phenomenal as a character. I love how he's not even a character but just death in nature and only looks for the people who are not taking life seriously.

This movie portrayed the three types of antagonists so perfectly A broken/confused antagonist- Goldilocks You actually understand her motives, and it becomes satisfying to see her arc close in this movie, finally accepting her bear family as her real one. She's the only antagonist with an arc in this movie, and it was executed rather greatly. A mustache twirling villain- Jack Horner He's literally evil for the sake of evil, and it's always fun to watch when done right An antihero- Death He isn't good, but not evil either, sure he toys with puss' fear, but it's more out of cockiness than anything really, and despite being overconfident, he actually makes things fair for puss, pushing him to at least die fighting instead of being a pus.., and he actually has a personality, outside of being the grim reaper of this movie, regretting taunting and toying with puss whilst trying to kill him.

I like how Death's whistle can make not only the kids but also the adults shit their pants

The wolf actually makes you feel genuine fear it was directed so well. And I was surprised when they actually showed blood. This movie is awesome and it's not just geared toward kids but adults and the people who grew up with the Shrek franchise who are now older.

Dude my fiance and I literally watched it yesterday. We looked at what was available at our local theater which was Wakanda Forever, Babylon, Puss in Boots 2, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and Avatar 2. We went with the highest review (Audience and Critic) and watched Puss in Boots 2. This movie was so damn good and it was surprising that a kid's movie was "Kids first, Adult second" which is something Disney is tripping on.

dreamworks really said "we're gonna give you a sympathetic villain, an irredeemable villain, and a terrifyingly efficient antagonist" (i consider Death as only an antagonist because he was just doing his job + he had a very valid reason to try and take Puss' last life early)

*_(Mild spoilers for the movie)_* I really like how kitty's mask being off or on shows how she feels towards everyone around her. Putting it back on right before reaching the wishing star and, from what I remember, taking it off when (after*) Puss was fighting death was a nice touch.

I hard disagree with your point about Goldi's plot only being revealed and resolved in the very end of the movie. My cousin and I went to see it in theaters and we actually both realized what Goldi's wish was gonna be when we saw her version of the map (although I did watch a dubbed version so it might be more obvious in my language than in the original). From then on out, every scene with her and the bear family was a stab because of how much they clearly loved her, and the resolution of that conflict made us both cry. Such wonderful, subtle writing - which is crazy considering this is a kid's film.

This movie felt like a passion project, something the animators WANTED to make

Saying "Hasta la muerte" to the personification of Death itself was probably the coolest line of dialogue I've ever witnessed. And it came from an orange haired cat named -Pickles- Puss in Boots.

i was like “man i’m not gonna get scared of death” and at his last two appearances my heart was literally RACING. i was scared of him.

Seriously, this was one of the best animated films ive ever seen--multiple character arcs handled beautifully (Goldilocks' family being inspired by Perrito's optimism) and the final scene where Puss fought against Death made me realize that he didn't *want* to kill Puss, he just wanted him to *value the last life he has!* Which is a lot better than just having a villain that simply wants to get rid of the protagonist, imo.

I really appreciated how the conflict between the bears and Goldi pans out when they find out her wish is for a “real” family. It would’ve been so easy to have them go “well fine if you want to live life without us then you can get this wish without us” and then she has to get to the star alone and then they show up to save her when she’s in trouble, which is what makes her realize they _are_ her real family…but no. They decide to keep helping her because they love her and it’s what would make her happy, which is SO much more heart-wrenching, and it makes her decision to abandon her opportunity to make the wish to save Baby feel that much more genuine and earned. I do wish a note of emphasis on Baby’s digs at her for being an adopted orphan and not a bear was included to help make her feelings of not belonging with them that little bit more empathetic, but I can live without that because her decision to stay with them still feels more organic the way they did it than it would’ve otherwise- it’s a realization she comes to in a moment of abandoning her own selfishness rather than in a moment of her being saved in spite of that selfishness.

Seeing characters actually dying in this movie in my opinion really served the story. It really made the threat of death real. You can see how witnessing others people dying in an instant affects Puss, and it makes Death scarier

I went to see it yesterday, with zero expectations, I didn't even see the trailer I just went because a friend invite me and I was pleasantly surprised It was actually pretty good, I haven't seen any sherk films since the third one left a bad taste on my mouth but I'm happy that they are getting back on the right track

The Last Wish is just incredible. I just love the character of Death. He doesn't HATE Puss, he hates how he wasted his lives. He's not a bad guy, just an anti-hero

Honestly, I loved how they built up Goldilocks’s conflict with her family. It’s subtly built up with her trying to communicate with her family, but failing as they don’t listen to her at times, culminating in the scene where Goldilocks confessed that she wants a real human family, emphasizing how she feels disconnected because of her being human and them being bears. And the Three Bears understands this, choosing to put their own wants to the side for her. I love how this movie isn’t just mature from a subject matter level, but on a storytelling level, giving us clues on what Goldi truly wants rather than constantly shoving it into our face. EDIT: Holy crap, I didn't think this would get a lotta likes! Thanks guys.

The part where perico calmed boots down by laying his head on boot’s stomach made me tear up, it was so cute and as someone who personally deals with panic attacks it felt personal

At first when I saw the ads for it, I was genuinely put off because of how unfunny the trailer was. I was seriously thinking that it was just gonna be another dumb baby movie. But no. Not at all. The way this movie nearly moved me to tears. I also love how they keep it real with the audience, not making it too childish to the point the adult audience can't really enjoy it. I love some of the crude humor and the actually violent fighting scenes. I cannot even begin to explain how much I loved the death character. Seeing Puss be this sort of crime fighting vigilante badass actually being genuinely afraid felt so real. This was his last life, and all his anxiety was starting to catch up to him. That's just so real. When his heart was racing and he barely could move because he was so frightened, like he was having a panic attack, it just really puts you in the moment. I can't explain how much I love it when people deep dive into masculine, badass warriors and show how deeply they are truly hurting or just afraid on the inside and finally have to experience vulnerability, to the point they want to run away from it all instead of fight. Fear is a conflicting thing, but it's real. The way Puss' hair stands on its ends, and how you can hear his heart pounding rhythmically in the back, it was truly great. I love seeing people being struck with serious fear and anxiety, it's always very interesting. They made death so menacing here, with those dark blood red eyes, and tall stature. It almost makes you feel like you are Puss. And in the end, he's just a cat that's getting older. And he's on his last life, it's all so thrilling. I just adored this movie sm.

Something I noticed after you mentioned how the dog is super trusting, it made me realize that the dog has the counter positive traits to puss and kitty’s negative traits/character flaws which makes me like the dog more.

Can't wait to see this one.

My dog died recently, she was so happy and positive all the time and she helped me get better through my depression last year. I bawled my eyes out when Perrito helped Puss calm down and how he stayed so positive through all, his dialogue about life really broke me. I hope this film has an impact on adoption, sometimes people pass adopting dogs they deem “ugly” when they can literally change your life for the better, I would give anything to have my dog lay on my lap just once more.

I love that the phrase "dropping frames for a fight scene" is now an incredibly good thing now it's done with a lot of intention and style.

I can't remember the last time a villain actually instilled a sense of dread in me. The wolf was SO GOOD

Probably the biggest thing that makes Death Wolf such a good villain is because they don't make any jokes, in a par or a sub-par movie they probably would have made some tedious joke where puss is throwing balls of paper at him he flinches a little before continuing and repeat that for a tedious sub-par joke that ruins the tense moment if done poorly although I'd argue there are no bad ideas just bad execution. Anyway they didn't make any jokes with Death Wolf to my memory which definitely helps Reinforce the grim tone of his scenes, honestly I loved the movie

It’s actually a really haunting thought to consider this would’ve been one of the last movies James and Patrick watched together. I pray that God may help James cope with the core lessons of this movie, and that Patrick and Chris are in a better place 😔🙏

Spoilers for the movie: I like how the villain from the sequel are improved version of what the villain from the first puss and boots movies were. Jack and Jill were evil just to be evil with no tragic backstory making them that way, the goose was a force of nature with it literally being an animal with one goal where it couldn’t be stopped, and humpty was sort of a sympathetic character with his grudge against puss being because humpty in his eyes was betrayed by the one person he cared about. The villains from the sequel each fit in these three categories. Jack Horner being the evil just to be evil villain but he’s more comedic then Jack and Jill, big bad wolf being the force nature villain since he is literal death but the twist is he also holds a grudge against puss, and goldi being the sympathetic antagonist with her goal being that she wants a family.

I love the twist that it wasn't the "big bad wolf" character you find in so many fairytales. The three little pigs, little red riding hood, the seven goats, the boy who cried wolf. This wolf character isnt _that_ wolf. It's someone so much worse. So much more powerful. It is Death himself. This is basically Far Far Aways' version of Hades. So Puss was practically battling an actual God. And that for me makes Death so much scarier and so much more intimidating and one of the best crafted character in animation movie history.

Decided to start my rewatch with this after I learned about the tragedy. Was not prepared for "Patrick and I were the only ones I. The theater". Rip

The Wolf (or Death) was my favorite part of this film. The way he is introduced by his whistle and his dark dark aura and color scheme, to his very sarcastic way, yet terrifying way, of saying to Puss "I am going to take your own life because you don't value yours" is done exceptionally well. He is definitely one of my favorite DreamWork villains of all time. Literally, every time he was shown on screen I got goosebumps just like Puss, and the way they made him feel Fear and how that it can also fear us humans is just amazing. The other characters were amazing as well but The Wolf (Death) is the one character that makes this movie so interesting, deep, dark, and meaningful.

I really like that Perrito the dog was more than just a comic relief sidekick and actually helped move the story forward

Between this and The Bad Guys, I can appreciate Dreamworks trying to push the envelope in animation, a description that should've been suited to Pixar's legacy until a few years ago.

i work at a movie theater and we've gotten a lot more people coming in to watch puss in boots than strange world, even though strange world has been out for longer. i've gotten kids come up to me telling me how excited they are to watch puss in boots. this really gives me hope that we will keep getting more great and mature animated movies like this one. also when i watched it i was just blown away (also the fight scene with the giant and the bell is one of my favorite things ever)

I actually think the time spent in Mama Luna’s house was just right It’s just long enough to convey the misery Puss is experiencing

Having watched this today, I can agree: IT IS AS GOOD AS EVERYONE SAYS IT IS! Seriously don't be afraid to go watch this because "kids movie." Not only is that a poor reason, but I kinda forgot that DreamWorks isn't Disney after not seeing one of their movies for so long, and WOW they don't hold back. There's swearing, blood, genuine terror, abuse, and yet it all still manages to be wholesome and family friendly. The last time I saw a movie with such dark topics that also managed to be super family friendly was The Incredibles, and comparing ANYTHING to that movie is the highest of praise. Seriously, go watch it.

6:17 I'd say the cat home section was decent as well Because it serves two purposes 1. Introducing Perrito as the new ally 2. Showing how Puss simply can't go for this life, as it's too different and in a way a coward way of living for him

I sincerely think we're in a sort of renaissance for animation, where it's both taken more seriously by academies and by major studios, finally allowing artists to stretch their legs and treat it as the infinite world of filmic possibilities it is. It's a nice point in time to be in, as an animation enthusiast.
