SECONDARY; Secure the Baltic, Mediterranean and Red sea and keep the Arctic exclusive, Indian and Pacific lanes competitive.....

Modern diesel submarines are still effective weapons. Many countries are still developing and using diesel submarines. Actually those are "diesel-electric" submarines, most of the time they are running on battery therefore it is much quieter than nuclead submarines.
