@@DawidDoesTechStuff can you do a comparison for us olds that explains what the different series cards is good for? I know you’re about games, but which are better for editing, for CAD, for VR, etc.. Your knowledge seems copious and I live for the metaphors
@@markfriesen1435 I will give you a (maybe not 100% exact) explanation. So the gt series was meant for games, but since most of them were released in 2009-2012 or so, they aren't keeping up well nowdays, even though they were good for their times. You can find them today in some older laptops/PCs but they are not worth buying anymore if you want to game. The GTX(maxwell/pascal arhitecture) lineup , is also meant for gaming, they also do well in video editing. These cards are still good today(except de GTX 1050 2gb, and the 1060 3gb, because they have vram limitations). If you want to play recent games the gtx 1070 and 1080 are gonna hold up well. The new turing gtx cards(1650,1660 are pretty good 1080p gaming cards too). The RTX(turing arhitecture) lineup ,along with the 20 and 30 series are really good for gaming and streaming because they have onboard encoders(the gtx ones also have them, but they are slightly weaker). The rtx lineup does really well in video editing too. The titan cards (gtx titan, rtx titan) were just as strong in gaming as the best card from each lineup(rtx 2080ti-rtx titan) because the only difference between them was that the titan had a lot of vram and a few more cores. So, the titan cards were specially made for heavy video editing and some 3d modeling (all sorts of content creation). The Quadro(Pascal/Turing arhitecture) lineup was meant for extremely heavy modelling, rendering, editing, and all other sorts of application that need a lot of Vram. These are more dedicated to those programs than the titan cards, the Quadros being the best for editing. The gtx/rtx for gaming/streaming. The titans for a mix between gaming/editing. The gts for very light gaming or web browsing. For VR the gtx and rtx cards will do their job really well.
It was a pleasure meeting you today in the queue at memory express Dawid! Loving your content and looking forward to seeing more in the future. Cheers!
Me *sees terrible idea in the title of one of Dawids vids* Also me: oh no he is gonna SLi two GT710s and watercool them whilst also overclocking them until the water boils. Jk, love your vids, keep it up.
Memory Express is the best. It took like 4 weeks to come but I ordered my 3080 on launch and they were great about calling the day it came in. Great video always entertaining.
@@DawidDoesTechStuff , which Memory Express do you frequent, which city? (I use the original shops in Calgary and they have treated me great for many years.)
I put a lower profile Noctua fan in in order for my 3080 to fit. It was in an older Aurora R7 which looks like it has a virtually identical intake fan set-up and clearance as this one.
If you actually wanted the 3070 in the Alienware case, you could probably fit a slim 15mm fan in the front. It won't move as much air, but it would definitely be better than nothing.
That’s exactly what I did, placed a 15mm fan and a new RTX 3080 12GB XC3 ultra and it fits ad works like a champ. No errors, no high temps, just works. My case is an R12 in black.
the gpu heats up the air before it gets to the processor so yeh it will run hot also, there is no watercooling on the processor, I ALWAYS SAY IF YOU BUYING ALIENWARE get the watercooling option dont be cheap! great video as always
I just got one... it’s pretty insane bro. It’s an R10 with a 3070, 32GB ram.. I haven’t had any overheating issues yet. I highly suggest it. Get water cooling also it helps
If you get any of those alienware models it's highly recommended to upgrade to the water cooler for the CPU. It would be interesting to see this with that option. Shame you don't have it since it's only like $50 more or something.
I asked memory Express Edmonton if they had any 30 series cards or when they would have some in. On the other end, the guy just started laughing maniacally... it was as if I was trying to get a 730 Res at Dorsia.
I have a R9, I threw in the corsair AIO and changed to 3 Corsair ML pro fans. Might want to try it as it drops all the temps a good way while remaining nice and quiet. Also you need some Noctua fan splitters for the radiator in a sandwich format. Think I will wait for the smaller formed cards to hit the market. Really dont want to loose the front fan, As you know the case is pretty but not moving a ton of air..
I love how unusual the videos are, but it always feels vaguely useful. I'm sure there's someone out there genuinly considering something like this. It's crazy and weird but it'll work.
Dell is now selling those Aurora R10s w/a Ryzen 3700 & a Geforce 3070 GTX. It still has only a 550 watt power supply though. It’ll be interesting to see how that plays out over the next several months.
how the heck did you get 96 degrees on your cpu when furmark is a gpu stress test .-. that chip is degrading every time you use the PC. makes sense you didn't need to sacrifice a goat, that Ryzen's done for in a few months. gg alienware cooling
Dawid knew going in (I am sure...) that the water cooling option is literally a must for that chassis and it is. But since he was going as cheap as possible he's currently stuck. I expect he's going to put a water cooler on it eventually and upload it a video on it. Seems to be something that needs to be done.
The liquid cooled cpu option manages the temperatures dramatically better. There are known cooling issues with alienwares fan cooled cpus since the power supply basically covers it completely
This is close to what I did with a 3070 in my R7. I7 8700, previously replaced stock CPU fan with Corsair AIO. Front HD replaced with a Noctua NF-p12, under load CPU/GPU ~75 C, idle ~45 C. other add ones m.2 Samsung 970 pro, added 32 Gb different branded on top of the existing 16, PSU swapped for a Corsair 850w. And stacked like 4 ssd various older drives for a 1Tb of pooled storage and 7200 2tb disk storage. Not pretty to look at, odd memory config, but runs stable. Lots to to criticize there, starting with why not build from scratch lol
Humming along with a off the shelf GIGABYTE RTX 3090 Turbo in my R11. Only 3090 I found that would fit. I had to change my front fan to a slim but that’s the only mod I had to do. Fan orientation is good as well. Exhaust points down instead of up towards the GPU.
I'm sure someone already pointed out Dawid could've run the fan cable thru the front of the chasis, screwed it to the outside and then slapped the front bezel back on, so still utilizing a front fan and still fitting the card
Air-cooling the CPU on the Ryzen AW machines is a joke. I got the 3900 (non-x) back in April 2020 and the configurator page made me think it would come with the AIO, but no...and the temps immediately spiked at 97c. I put a Corsair H60 in and now it runs in the 36c range at idle with all cores at 4000. (They changed the configurator page 2 weeks later to show that it was air-cooled with my options). Anyway, good to know that even the 3070 won't fit without mods. Thanks for putting this up!
You should do a video about upgrading the CPU cooling on this to a corsair H60 (and maybe adding another ML120 Pro to that rad, connecting it to the mobo with a PWM y splitter). A LOT of people on r/buildapcsales just bought a ryzen package that doesn't have air cooling and I almost guarantee they'll be looking for a guide/before and after of adding that AIO, which is pretty much the only one that fits in a r10/r11. Great Video!
@@djbrokoly3909 I have an aurora previous design from 3 years ago and just replaced the stock 1080ti with a 3070. I have the 750 or 850w power supply and liquid cooled intel cpu, basically maxed out at the time. Using the lower slot and removing the lower ssd brackets, plus the stock aurora vented side cover seems to be giving plenty of air flow to the gpu. No problems so far (knocking on wood). From this video the latest aurora layout seems to be the same as the previous gen.
@@nicoscoolvids Love to hear that!, in my case, I have occupied both ssd brackets, is it really necessary to remove them?, with the 3070 did you perceived a good or a awesome performance boost?, thanks.
@@djbrokoly3909 got my 3070 just a couple of days ago and haven’t had a chance to use it much yet. It has no problem driving my qhd at 165 FPS with doom at highest settings. Haven’t had a chance to try rtx titles yet. Regarding the bottom trays, they’ll be pretty close to the bottom fans of the 3070 founders, best try it and keep a close eye on the temps. Personally if I need more storage I’ll get an external enclosure.
just did similar things. After removing the OEM front fan, I replaced it with a NOCTUA 120mmx15mm slim fan, it actually fits in with my 3 fan 3070 and works great (still plenty of space between the card tail and the fan).
Can you PLEASE do more of these?! We need to see more of these old parts & new parts miss-matches. What this showed me is, if you are doing a slow PC upgrade, you can temporarily put in a new GPU into current PC while slowly getting the other components. I've also been curious to see how old PC also handle newer 3200ghz Ram.
That PSU wont be happy in a couple of months, like linus said, the new RTX 3000 series has spikes in power that can trigger the PSU to shut down. Im actually impressed how that psu handle it.
funny how I did the same thing putting a 4070Ti in Aurora R12, I had to take the bottom fan off to fit the GPU in, and the temp has never gone above 80C
i work as dell tech support and it was hilarious to see the error code from the diagnostics when you booted the alienware machine XD im on my shift ATM and im dying here but i love ur vids keep it up!
I installed EVGA 3080 in the same case without the front fan. It runs Firestrike and Time Spy stress tests over and over again. Max GPU temp was 85C and passed the test every time. The power supply design is stupid. Had to remove the triangular brace to put the PSU back in place...
I think the Alienware aurora cases have to be one of the worst ones when it comes to air flow and it’s so tiny inside..you are limited to the size of your gpu and you can’t add a 3 fan liquid cooler..I own one of these but I’m in the process of building a new system
new comment on old video, I enjoyed watching this , got a good laugh because even though you didn't check the dimensions first , just went for it and then it worked! I know there are some cards that will fit now, but i get twitchy thinking about removing that front fan. very good video. thanks for the info.
in this exact boat. Old R11, wanting to add a 3/4 series rtx card and I"ve seen the dimensions 267x114x51 tossed around and there are very few cards that fit that.......
there are MANY loopholes to lower the gpu/cpu temps now a days though.. i was running 80-85 on my cpu just loading cod. Found a 30 second tutorial vid and fixed my cpu/temp COMPLETLEY
Good job Alienware you made something worth wild. Im waiting for the arrival of my Alienware with a rtx 3080. Pre built fitted with an i7 and you guessed it an rtx 3080 lol. Lets see if the temps will be horrible, they shouldn’t considering I only do casual animation and gaming.
Still going well with the R11 Andrew? I just pulled the trigger on a 10900k with 3080 and had concerns about temps. But your post is very reassuring! Doing any mining on the side with that beast?
Dawid, thank you for the videos and great content. I love watching and learning a thing or two. I have a very strange question do you know if the CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM DDR4 RAM will fit in this case? I ordered this pc and wanted to upgrade the memory. Thank you in advance.
I'm a bit late but wanted to make a suggestion. I don't own an R11 (still have my trusty R7), but from the video (7:36) it looks like there are vent holes on the bottom of the case. Why not mount the in-take fan there? Just a thought. Great vid by the way!
Just got my R10 in a few days ago, bought mine with an RTX 3080 installed. So far it's been awesome! The liquid cooling isn't too loud at all but I do have the computer a few feet away hooked to a TV.
I just ordered the R10 with the RTX3080 in it. Should arrive early april. I'm kinda hyped, but also concerned...this is my first pc that was THAT expensive :/ I hope everything works just fine
@@midnight5895 I'm still really enjoying mine! The only drawback I have is that the Overclock Settings on my unit have been totally unreliable and resulting in crashes, so I do not use them at all. My system is still really powerful enough on it's own but its a shame the Overclock software doesn't seem to work well.
I always use gigabyte gaming oc cards for all my gpu upgrades. They have had the best cooling out of the majority of other gpus with their windforce fan setup. They run quiet, cool and overclock really well. My gaming oc 2070 is over clocked to 2060mhz and stays around 60 degrees. Gigabyte is hands down the best bang for buck gpu and I will continue to use them in every build. I'm pretty sure they are usually the cheapest cards too compared to msi asus and others except evga. I have have never had an issue with any of my gigabyte cards, and they have been overclocked every day for years
