Putting the engine back in our 1950 Chevy pickup | Redline Update #38

Our Chevrolet 3600 pickup has been making steady progress, but even though it now boasts a fuel tank and a new wiring harness, the heavily-patina’d pickup stranded on the two-post lift hasn’t seen any major changes recently. That’s about to change, though, because Davin finally has enough small-scale projects done to tackle something big. Engine-installation big.

Remember my Dad had a 1950 Chevy sedan with an inline six, maybe the same one, and it ran just fine. What great memories and to know that trucks and cars back then were built of metal and built to last. Really miss my Dad and that car.

My dad's 1950 Chevy panel truck did not come with a heater. He added a South Wind gasoline fired heater to it. Also, there was a Motorola tube AM radio under the dash where a heater might go. At 14 years old I used to listen to Ode to Billy Joe when it first came out on that radio. Must have been Summer of 1967. The truck is still parked in the same spot 53 years later. Somebody stole the starter. The engine quit when the fiber timing gear went out. Your project brings back memories....

In the past when working on removing and/or repairing a heater core, or anything under the dashboard, I've reclined the front seats and eased myself, laying on the seats upside down with my head on the floorboard, looking up into the front console area. Obviously what I needed to do was place my vehicle on a hoist, remove the floorboards, and stand on the ground to work under the console. All these years I've been obviously doing it wrong. Gee! Why didn't I think of this. Great job on the truck. Loving these updates.

Davin's moto of "get out there, get your work done, so you can go work on your ride," makes for an awesome outro. But, I also find it to be a great motivating phrase. I watch the videos and think man I really wanna go work on my truck. But yes I need to go finish my homework first, so I can get a degree and work on awesome cars like that someday.

For only four gears forward, those transmissions are solid weight and pound for pound three of them would make a entire foreign car. Maybe more as my back remembers how hard those were to stab. Nice putting the heater in and standing in a empty cavity I bet as its not easy to get to all the stops on the heater adjustments and setting the little clamps in place. Nice work
