Nice build Igor. It looks comfortable. Is a ride report coming? I love how you are using a mix of used Velo Orange and other components. Kind of more like a bike geek than a guy hawking bikes and components. The result looks just right. I also like the classic style mixed with some modern conveniences.

Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I did an overnight tour and am editing it!

I love my Granola Bar, I recommend to tilt the ends slightly down a little bit so you have less pressure on you hands and increase the comfort. At least it worked for me.

holy cow! Very interesting demo for an experienced rider who definitely should know much more about bikes. THANKS!

Nice build. Do we get a short ride video so we can see how you like it? And maybe show off one of your local trails. 🙂 As a rider with narrower shoulders, I prefer the Tourist Bar; wide enough my knees go inside the ends rather than into them, but not so wide I (feel like I) risk faceplanting into the stem.

Currently working on editing a video of an overnight tour with Nic Morales (@morajez in IG) and his Polyvalent! Good point about the width!

I'm planning some changes for my VO camargue , this video has really boosted my confidence and motivation to get on the VO website and order some bits. I love the presentation of these videos , some channels alienate the inexperienced . This is enabling.

Great vid Igor. Regarding the bit at 18:30. It always seemed intuitive to me why Tektro uses the road head to me but I never stopped to articulate it. So I'll try now.. Since there is no casing surround the cable head like most brake levers do, the road cable has the extra little snout that may provide a little extra security to the cable not dropping out of the anchor. One accidental side benefit is that when you get rid of your drop bars, you can use the same cables and just cut them to length.

I love the simplicity of an 8 speed system!

8 + 9 speed! The best is, spare parts like cassettes + chains in decent quality doesn't cost you an arm or leg.

This is exactly how I would have built this bike other than the shifters and handle bars. Can't wait for your review.

Granola bars are great and could be considered all-around, general purpose bars. Yet then there are the VO Porteur bars which are a bit narrower and work like a flat bar version of drop down road bars, just wide enough to provide armpit ventilation and to drop down when riding into a headwind.

Very nice build! I also recently built a Polyvalent with Granola Bars. I'm thinking about a dynamo wheel setup but I was wondering which front light and dynamo hub you use? Looks cool!
@velo_orange
@velo_orange Месяц назад
Dynamo is awesome. I'm very forgetful about charging my battery lights. The front hub is from SP and the light is something I got as a sample many years ago. I'd recommend either the E3 Supernova or Schmidt lights.

Last time I got some shifters that looked like they had been in use for years and never cleaned, I dumped them in a bath of oil for a few hours. They came out gleaming. Far easier and better than water and a toothbrush. I only had rapeseed oil atm, but I guess anything would do - probably something like a mineral oil would be better, though. Also, if it was to be orange, why those red sprocket wheels?
@velo_orange
@velo_orange Месяц назад
Awesome! Red is the fastest color.

Do you find those levers to feel a little squishy? I have a Soma Pescadero with Northroad bars on it and I have those levers with Tektro R559 brakes and they feel super squishy. Stopping power is still good, but they just feel like there's still pull to be had even after the pads make full contact.
@velo_orange
@velo_orange Месяц назад
They are less stiff than our Grand Cru levers, for example, but the 559 brakes are known for being flexy. I'd pull a bit more cable and get the pads closer so you aren't pulling so much cable before the pads touch.

@@unitedislife that is correct. The L is mostly for aluminum bikes with very large downtubes.

It's an offering from MSW. Not sure exactly what model, but it is designed for higher volume tires (I'm running 48mm). Haven't had to use it often, but it works fine!
