I don't like the idea of comparing the Uzi with the MP5. For me, the Uzi is a good sub gun for war, very reliable but not very safe, made more for burst fire (no cook offs) than for accurate single shots. In many regards the MP5 is the opposite and therefore the perfect police sub gun. In a trench I might prefer the Uzi, for everything else the MP5.

For the grip safety, I cut 2 coils off the spring. It was still fully functioning, but relieved just enough pressure to make it much more usable

Don't care about the UZI; I just came to check out the black and white flannel shirt again. Super cheap and easy to make, super reliable, super flexible, and super easy to use - who doesn't like a good flannel shirt?

There is a good reason why its so popular for close protection in the middle east. They are cheap and almost never seem to break. Its constant real world for use decades imo shows it to be an excellent weapon. Sure there are several much better sub machine guns available, but none at that price point.I think that is its outstanding legacy. The gun that could arm an entire army, for the cost of arming most countries battalions.

Uzi is still one of my favourite guns. Make a lighter, updated version that remedies some of its draw-backs (weight, space, open bolt) and you'd never need another SMG.

Got to shoot the Uzi a lot when I was made my Unit's Gun Bunny after a couple of serious accidents and outside of the weight, I LOVED it! Far more than the M3A1 Grease Guns issued to Tank Crews, although it was chambered in .45ACP and chugged along MUCH slower when sending Pain Pills downrange. Still, if you are GIVING them away, I'll take one of each, thank you, and 100 spare mags for each, too. LOL Thanks for the review and reminder.

MP-40 is the king of SMG recoil. The first time I fired one, I actually stopped after about five rounds and made sure the thing was really firing and I hadn't forgot to take the safety off or something. The folding stock for the UZI is definitely done right. It's not all that uncomfortable for a folding stock, it folds nice and compact, and deploys extremely easily and quickly.

In the army we put a piece of rubber in the back to increase the fire rate what made it more controllable with in full auto mode.

I like the uzi recoil more than a mp5 or a ump 45 and I’m talking full auto version I shot all of them before, the uzi just kinda bounces and once your use to it very nice

Also had a super low serial number UZI pistol. That one was full auto and super fast cycling, miss that lil guy for sure

Have shoot full auto uzis a few times, they are a ton of fun. But you are right the MP5 is so much better in almost every way.

I don’t have a mini uzi but I have a big one and it only gets uzi when you stroke it.

The image of the Uzi to me is the Secret Service agent during the Reagan Assassination attempt! To me I thought it was the most badarse thing I had ever seen.

Adding an rmr top cover and k-grip make a world of difference. Also adding a pair of coupled 25 rounders makes for a pretty sweet package.

If the sub gun doesn’t fire 1300 rounds per minute is it really a viable choice?

Fun fact: The German Armed Forces adopted the Uzi as their general purpose machine pistol in 1959. It was less than half the price of the MP5 and not half as bad.

I had the privilege of shooting one at a local PDs armory many years ago. Though its built for Armageddon and fun to shoot, but is not ergonomic at all. I'll take one if someone gave it to me.

There is also new Uzi designs from iwi that are currently in production.

Spent some time kicking down doors in South Africa carrying one of these, one of my favourites guns by far.

I did a machine gun rental recently, an Uzi and an MP5 with a group of friends. I found the uzi was far easier to control for novice shooters with the low fire rate. The grip safety and selectors were obnoxious though. I think I'd rather own an MP5, because it can be upgraded with a sear than try and butcher the special sauce of the uzi by making it semi. I quite enjoyed both though. The uzi weighed about the same but felt much heavier in the hand because if how dense the little bastard is.

The design of UZI is based on czech submachine gun prototype ZK 476 and a family of production submachine guns vz. 23, 24, 25 and 26 btw.

Interesting watching the side by side with the UZI and UMP9. I didn't realize the rate of fire was so slow on the UMP.

UZI with an RMR is the perfect firearm for support troops; Tankers, Medics, Aircraft operators, etc. perfect small arm that chambered in a potent close range round... maybe issuing it in 10mm would make it better, but as we all know the army sucks at proprietary rounds, so just stick to 9mm.

Love my ol model A, unfortunately it's no open bolt full auto but luckily I have my M&P 15 and metal clothes hangers 😜

I still would say overall the Mp40 is the most superior sub machine gun of all time when it comes to recoil. I mean honestly idk how you could argue against it. The pneumatic buffer in the Mp40 just works too good. :)

I'm so full of 80's nostalgia that seeing an Uzi actually being fired from the shoulder just looks off. You're supposed to hipfire it one-handed while spraying the entire room!

My dad had a semi auto uzi back in the day with a 16inch barrel. The biggest POS you could ever imagine. Couldn’t make it though a mag. Recoiled like hell. Trigger felt like dragging a piano across a gravel beach.

Everything in life is a compromise, Of course the MP7 shoots well its a full auto less than 22LR SMG. The standard bullet weight of 4.6X30mm is 26gr where as the 22LR is about 40 grain. Think of this forget bullet diameter and think all recoil is from the bullet weight. Which is the more mass bullet mean more recoil. In end, of course the 26gr MP7 is better at recoil than the 115gr UZI. You cant argue physics but people still try.
