Garand Thumb's Review of The H&K MP7

Here it is. Garand Thumb with the H&K MP7 in all its glory. You probably don't need mags for this super rare submachine-gun from Heckler and Koch, but you should shop at Gunmag Warehouse for all your other magazine needs. The 4.6 caliber is hard to find, but there is a lot to love about this little submachine gun. It's also better in real life than in Call of Duty.

I probably didn't put 1200 rounds through my M16s in 7 years active duty. (combat support, not combat arms) Now I probably have twice that on M60s though, just because you tend to fire 400 rounds minimum every trip to the range with it.

Regular conscript in Finland probably puts about 6-15 mags on average on the RK62, most probably are well below 300 rounds..
@TaurionMartell
@TaurionMartell 5 лет назад
@@rkan2 same here in norway. We actually fired 1500-2000 rounds because of all the cqb shit. But excluding that probably no more than 3-400 rounds. Had the mp7 which was kinda stupid since it didnt fit our role but it was the standard weapon for the batallion so we got it too. That was as a conscript ofcourse. Enlisted infantrymen probably shoot alot more

Looks like you don't know how cheaply they were produced. For the original AKMs produced for military use, they had a large, automated factory that churned them out so well and so cheaply per rifle that it was more cost effective to replace a broken rifle (if it did manage to break, that is) with one from their stocks than to waste time and money fixing it.

*FUN FACT:* The H&K MP7 was originally planned to be paired with a pistol chambered in the same 4.6×30mm cartridge. This pistol was known as the H&K UCP. However due to undisclosed reasons this pistol never left the prototype stage and thus was never made available outside of H&K. On the other hand, the FN Herstal "5.7×28mm" cartridge is available for use with the FN P90 (PDW) and the FN Five-seveN (Pistol).

Not only special forces use the MP7. The normal german infantry use it too! Often, in good numbers. For examples: By vehicle and tank crews, for officers or seargents of troops/groups in the field (but often they have the G36K) and (what you are not thinking about, wich is normal for this good KSK-style weapon, is) normal soldiers in the field carry it too! Not only high ranked soldiers. Me too for a short time. I shot the MP7 and loved it! 😄 Very unice, reliable, good and destroying weapon (with this ammo)! You can shoot through nearly every plate and through walls too! 😅 This ammo is so powerful, you dont believe it if you dont try it. ...And sometimes the MP7 is an "onboard-weapon" wich is standard in the vehicle as a emergency weapon,

It's a very ideal vehicle weapon for sure. Also good for police / security work where threats are expected to be close(ish) range, and there is a reasonable threat of facing body armor. Otherwise I would run a 9mm or .45acp if there is no threat of body armor.

The most important thing to understand about the MP7 is that it is a Personal Defense Weapon for troops who are unlikely to have any enemy contact (Logistics, Artillery, etc.) and as such it would be uneconomical and unergonomical for them to carry full size rifles. On the other hand, pistol and normal machine pistols are useless against even level 2 armor. So that's where the MP/ sits. I don't know about Seals and KSK usage but it was not originally designed as an assaulter's weapon.

only MP7 I've seen in the wild, in front of Downing St. 10 in London. for the police, Armourer level maintenance is not a problem because every end of day, the weapons go TO the armourer, who has a absolute mastery on rounds fired, maintenance done etc.

I got to play with one when I was with the Germans on a FOB in Afghanistan. My unit and theirs did kind of a exchange program day where we traded weapons and soldiers for qualifications and sports. All of us Americans got to shoot their entire armory and they got to shoot ours. So I was able to do the german marksman qual with the G3, G36, MP7, USP, MG42 and what ever their grenade launcher was and they got to use our 50 cal, 240,249, m4, m9, 203, FN303, and MK19. Funniest part was a bunch of them didn't care about those guns. They wanted my armory converted m16a1. (it was weird. For some reason a bunch of us had a1 lowers that had their stampings Xed out and a3 etched under it but it was still full auto with the integrated carry handle/rear sight.) Either way. The mp7 was my favorite. You could basically one hand full auto and keep all shots on target at around 10-15 meters. Even though this gun is like the vector where not having full auto is akin to kicking puppies, H&K should really make a civilian variant.

My German Sergeant didn't like the gun very much because of it's caliber. He said that when you have to face a drugged Taliban fighter, you need to empty the whole mag on just one guy to achieve at least some man-stopping power. If you are not wearing some kind of body armor, the projectiles go right through leaving very small holes.

I had shot the MP7 in Africa, with french spécial forces in 2014...300 meters with micro T Aimpoint...it was a pretty one, very accurate and the same recoil than a 22lr. All the shot were in the target (human style torse and head), single shot and 7 round burst (at 300 meter!!!). But at short range, i think that the burst is the only one solution, because the stoping power of the 4.6x30 is very low.
@stilanbant2198
@stilanbant2198 8 месяцев назад
I mean coming from a civilian standpoint and someone who used to sell guns, i think of the 5.7 as a really fast and hot .22 so it’s a hole puncher but almost no stopping power since it’s designed to pierce body armor. So I would roughly say 4.6x30 is pretty much a better .17HMR or is that kind of insulting?

I've noticed at that on the lower right back of your rig you have what looks like and ammo pouch. I've seen a velcro one straight up and I've also seen an upside down buckle closure one. Is this for spare mags in the way Paul Howe suggest carrying 3-4 up front and having spares in the back?

I’ve fired both. Two of the most fun guns to shoot. Like Eric at IraqVeteran says: “Like a pack of pissed off hornets!” No doubt: MP7 takes the crown. However, P90 is known to also be über-reliable and very effective in close quarters. Loading the P90 can be tedious, due to the helical feeding. Ergos: MP7; overall quality: MP7 (but the P90 is up there); trigger: MP7; concealability with full-size mag: prob the P90 (mag on top of barrel): mag capacity: P90 (50 vs. 40); terminal ballistics: 5.7x28; weight: MP7; ejection: P90 (downward). Both are fielded by top operators. The USSS and Austrian Jagdkommando are some of many that use the P90. Lock & Load Miami offers both for rent. Expensive, but worth it!

@@paulbarclay4114 really? I've had my PS90 for a little over a year now and haven't had a single issue with the gun. Granted I threw a red dot sight in mine because the stock sight integrated in the factory Pic rail did suck.

someone needs to make an ultra light belt fed chambered in 4.6x30 and 5.7x28. maybe one that accepts mp7 mags too

Would be too clunky... the 50 round mag on the P90 already lets it act as a light support weapon in a pinch as is.

*FN P90 better for concealed carry* I prefer the P90 (and PS90 SBR) as it is far better for concealed carry as its higher capacity 50 round mag doesn't stick out, while it can be fired instantly without having to extend a stock, which on the MP7 tends to catch on things (collapsed or extended) and provides a terrible cheek weld, which helps explain why the Secret Service use the P90 but not the MP7 and are replacing their MP5 SMGs with an AR (SR-16 CQB) for overt use. I hear FN is thinking of making a 10.4" barrel pistol version of the PS90 carbine with a smooth end cap instead of a ribbed butt plate and an arm brace strap.

Their country is rich and quality of life high, so they can afford to give their soldiers the best shit because they arent wasting billions on decades long wars since they have their own oil. Sometimes I wish my Grandparents never immigrated to America, but then again they left before Norway found that oil. The country was much different back then from what theyve told me.

something that might add a bit to videos like these might be some info on the velocity you were getting. i dunno if you have access to a chronograph where you shoot, but it would be cool to see, especially with some of the less common stuff like 4.6. One thing I always think about with guns or rounds like these, and when you're talking about its effective range and application, is how they'd perform out of a longer barrel. Some of that i could extrapolate for myself, but im not sure what kind of velocity you get with the standard barrel, as well as projectile weight and stuff. Of course I could always go find that info somewhere else, but it'd be cooler if you gave it to me ^_^

From the standpoint of compact this in ease of Transportation I wonder if it would make sense at least in larger police departments two armed officers with an MP7 instead of a patrol carbine. Realistically the engagement ranges most officers are involved in do not require a full-sized carbine / rifle

Ivar Forkbeard The 4.6mm round is badass. It’s designed to punch through up to 1.5mm of titanium plus 4 additional layers of kevlar on a range of 150 meters. It makes carbines practically obsolete in engagements within a distance of 200m
@correctopinionhaver
@correctopinionhaver 5 лет назад
There's no point. 4.6 rounds were only ever meant to defeat body armor, not soft targets. So essentially if you shot an unarmored person, it kinda just goes right through without any real damage. Someone hyped up on drugs or adrenaline could probably take a couple before dropping. That's mainly why only specialized units like SOF or special police groups use them.

Well on short ranges a targeting laser would allow you to shoot "from the hip" and of course at night together with some night vision googles which would let you see and infra red laser
