The AI in the Compile developed games pretty much prefer going after one or two chains to prevent the player from building chains. Very rarely they'll do a 4-5 chain, but it almost never happens. If you're not prepared for their counterattacks it can get pretty annoying.
Actually, I've been thinking about this and it might be that the AI is meant to get as many Sun Puyos as possible, and then attack you with them. Of course, this doesn't really work.

Not denying the game is hard, but even on this difficulty the AI refuses to do anything more than a 2 chain. What is it about Arle that makes people fire off prematurely?

So let me get this straight, this is a puzzle game that has swearing, a fish with arms and legs, a perverted magician, a lesbian witch, a midget on a dragon, another midget who grows in a RPG style, Satan himself, a dude with a box on his head, a elephant that can burn holes in the earth, and a talking Skeleton that drinks drugged tea? Jesus Christ this game is wild
This is also the entry with the strangest premise, at least until Puyo Puyo Tetris. Like, wtf is Satan doing blowing the sun up to get a tan to _get girls_ when he already has a simp named Rulue? Tbh only thing that beats it is (spoiler alert for Puyo Puyo Tetris) the keeper of universes letting the Puyo and Tetris universes merge because he was bored.
I like how all of the sound effects in this game are still used nowadays (although it's mostly an enhanced version of the Puyo Puyo/Puyo Puyo Tsu ones), even the latest games like eSports still reuses the sound effects from Sun.
The arcade version gets nasty quick. Second stage as Arle had me suffocating in nuisances in no time at all. ...doesn't help that I'm still figuring the gameplay out and couldn't tell Arle's route was the hard mode since the menu had her in the middle and I can't read kanji lol
At 8:10, did the CPU place the double blues so fast the game didn't hit them with another attack? Edit: now that I'm looking out for it, it happens a lot more than that one scene.
That's actually not the case. Notice the Sun Puyo that fell in the top right. If Sun Puyo and Garbage Puyo are both set to drop in a player's field, the Sun Puyo takes priority, meaning the garbage doesn't drop until after both the Sun Puyo and the next Puyo pair are in place.
I swear all these little pansy kids in the comment section have never even heard of all the things Japanese games can get away with (unless it is gore according to the CERO rating system). And as much as kids *now* swear, I don't know why you guys are complaining nnd spamming the comment section..

The Puyo Puyo games was never intended to be a kid friendly series, you can already find some sexual jokes and various instances of swearing ever since the first game and the Madou Monogatari series. The latter is literally an dungeon crawler RPG series (Puyo Puyo is actually a spin-off franchise of Madou Monogatari).
