I use inexpensive white cafeteria trays for piece sorting. Amazon has various styles and prices. The ones I bought a couple of years ago were 6/$20. They stack easily, are lightweight, and are big enough to spread out a lot of pieces. I especially like them for shape sorting. When not in use I stack them with an empty one on top so the cat can’t mess with it.

Emily, I’ve never seen anyone else do this, but I use two large rimmed baking sheets to store my puzzle pieces on. They don’t get knocked over, the cats leave them alone, and I find the size perfect.

I use Dollar Tree poster boards and foam boards. Sorting: 4-5 gift box tops and a cookie sheet. Moving sections: Junk mail pamphlets and brochures. If puzzled does not come with poster, I lean the box top up against my desk lamp.

I have a makeshift puzzle area. I use a tray table and a piece of foam board large enough to fit a 1000 pice puzzle. It's great because it doesn't take up a ton of space, it's mobile, and when not in use, you can store it away super easily.

I have two puzzle boards. One is Jigsort that fits up to 1500 pieces, which I use on my lap or the bed. The other is a 5 foot by 4 foot piece of birch, which is currently sitting across two tables whilst I work on a 4000 piece puzzle. The only sorting I do is taking out the edge pieces. I keep all the middle pieces in the box it came in. I love running my fingers through all the pieces. I find it very calming and relaxing. May not be the most efficient way for a lot of people, but I'm still able to get a 1000 piece puzzle done in a day, most of the time.

I relax rummaging in the original box as well ! Glad to hear that! And I initially sort edges, then end up sorting as I go on small puzzle trays. I use Art & Fable's puzzle stand bc it is flat, and I can move the box top the same way I puzzle when I spin my board around! Plus flat means easy storage.

All very helpful tips and hints, especially for anyone new to puzzling. I don't have any animals in the house so no worries on that score. All my pieces go on either four or six catering trays spread out so I can see every single piece. I have got a puzzle scoop but it's not something I use a lot. If I wish to see the image on the box lid I just stand it up and add a weight if need be.

For sorting puzzles that are 1k and higher piece counts, I like to use this storage container I got from Michaels that is on wheels and has 10 pull out trays. I like it because I can put the trays somewhere secure and out of the way when I'm not using them and they are easy to pull out and take to the puzzle when I need them. I got the idea from MJ Puzzles RU-vid channel, the video called "I bought the 5000 piece Gradient Puzzle" if you would like to see what it looks like. :)

Yes I mention that in the video. The ones at mine though are too narrow for most 1000 piece puzzles but do work well for smaller piece counts.

Great video! I don't use a puzzle board but I have a few accessories that weren't mentioned. A craft knife and a small wooden block (3"x3"x3/4") to cut pieces that are still attached. A bottle of glue and a small applicator made from a sharpened wood sandwich pick to fix damaged or delaminated pieces as well as a small block of crystal to hold them down while the glue sets. A couple of clips to attach a poster to a piece of foam board so it can be propped up. And finally, a good pair of scissors and a duster for the puzzle dust.

I have a sun room that is more of a storage area than anything else. I plan on making it a craft area of sorts. Puzzling and sewing and general crafting. Right now I use a personal sized table that I put foam board on top of to work on a puzzle. It's easier to change out the size of the foam board than the size of the table! I use boxes of old long gone puzzles to sort, and I have two trays that I found at GW, one of them from Ikea! The ones I always start with are plastic storage food bins, the kind with a section for a sandwich, a section for veggies. I use those to sort color and esp edge pieces with the corners going in the smaller part of the container. I bought them for my kids' lunches and then for food storage (my kids are now in early 20s and I dont think I used them for them once! LOL) so they have become my puzzle sorting bins. I LOVE them. I LOVE your puzzle table. It's versatile enough that if you guys have ppl over, you can use it as a dining table or a buffet.

Make sure you have curtains for when you're not using the room to avoid the colors of your craft materials fading due to UV light exposure from the sun!

Interesting. I had a folding Jumbo jigsaw board which is soft like the one you mentioned. I noticed the dents in it over the years too. This year I sliced off the baise and stuck it to some mdf. I love it now. I prop it up un a A3 table easel to help my back. That works well and is a good substitute if a table is a bit out of your price range. I use one of the side pieces as a 500 board now. The sorting trays are a bit of a problem, I always feel I need more. 😁

I use 14 plastic trays I found @Dollar Tree in the office supply aisle. I place them on a snack table next to my dining room table I puzzle on. I make two piles of 7 trays each. The 7 trays are piled on top of each other as portrait, then landscape, then portrait etc. For puzzles under 1k I’ll use less trays or the more the puzzle is completed. The trays are 7.5x9.5 & 1 inch deep. I puzzle on a 27x36 trifold cardboard for large size puzzles or a 22x28 poster board for smaller also dollar tree.

I use 4 masonite sheets on top of our dining table for large puzzles, and I use sturdy metal baking trays I got from K - mart for sorting into piece shapes etc. I sort in box lids or on a spare masonite sheet and then transfer the bundles into ziplock bags. I have a really excellent small flashlight that lets me determine shades, especially on dark pieces.

Hi Emilee. Some of the accessories that I use daily include the puzzle scoop/magnifier/light. I use the scoop to move big sections or several pieces at a time. I also use the plastic box holder. I have several sets of trays that I use especially since I usually do puzzles in tandem, And I like to do some general sorting. I have the Bits & Pieces Deluxe Puzzle Swivel Easel for my table. When I puzzle in bed, I use a replacement tray for a dog crate. I have one that accommodates up to 1500 piece puzzles, or 1000 White Mountain or larger 1000 piece puzzles. For some of the round puzzles that I do that are too big for these surfaces, I tape two pieces of corrugated cardboard together for them. I have other things I could use to puzzle on, including a Ravensburger portfolio if I have the energy to work on three puzzles at one time.

@@thecasualpuzzler I believe I may have just met my kindred spirit! Emily, I am extremely happy to know there is someone ☺️ out there that I can say, if she can do puzzling with RA, than so can I! You are an inspiration to me and I am excited to tell you my very first puzzle purchase was made today and I will receive it on Monday. It is a 500 piece puzzle and I am "giddy" to receive it! I will tell you more about it when it arrives on Monday! I had help picking it out. My daughter helped. I could not choose. So many awesome puzzles out there. It is autumn themed. My daughter is excited I have decided to give a new hobby a go! I told her you made me feel like I can absolutely accomplish handling the puzzle pieces. She reminded me that when I begin to tire to allow myself grace to understand my body is recovering ❤️‍🩹 and the things that once came easily before, may take a little more time now a days. What great advice from her! I am thrilled to have support and the encouragement does not fall on deaf ears! Gentle hugs and happy Sunday! Your newest kindred spirit, Ronda❣️

I’ve been puzzling for years. I would like to upgrade my stuff so I just recently starting watching your videos. Right now I use a poster board on a blanket chest. And I ordered lunch trays from Amazon to sort my pieces. They will stack on top of each other and I have them on a folding table near me. Unfortunately my limit is 1,000 pieces with that set up. I have a very long panoramic puzzle I want to do and a 1500 piece puzzle that has been waiting. So I will be ordering foam boards to tape together! Thanks for the info!

Hello, I just found your channel. This was all great tips. I have been an avid puzzler for years and I’ve always used this thin Basswood sheets you can get at Lowes Hardwear. I think some craft stores also sell it but I think Lowes might be cheaper. I usually just pick out the edge pieces and run my finger through the pieces in the box till I find the pieces but I did recently get the Buffalo puzzle sorting trays. I use two pieces of the wood because once you finish the puzzle you can put the other piece on top to protect the puzzle or to flip the puzzle over if you glue the back of the puzzle like I do. The sheets will only hold up to a 1000 pieces though.

The only "accessories" that I use are a flashlight and ziplock bags. For the ziplock bags, I use the snack size for the edge pieces and the bigger size for the rest of the pieces. I like separating the edge pieces from the rest when I put it away. I also used to use a roll up puzzle matt. I don't really roll up puzzles any more. They don't seem to stick together. I still kind of use the felt piece from it to cover up the puzzle when I am not working on it (keeps the cat from taking pieces away).

I have a puzzle board that sets on my table and it has 4 good size drawers for pieces. I use a puzzle scoop. I have arthritis in my hands and when I'm finished with a puzzle I often have problems picking up all the pieces to bag up and put back in the box, I have a very small desk top vacuum that I use for the puzzle dust. It is battery operated and I've had it for a couple years.

I buy bankers boxes and use the tops for sorting my puzzle pieces. While they don't really stack directly on top of one another, they do interlock together when angled. They are a good size (I think about 12 x 15) and then I use the actual boxes to store the puzzles in before I donate them. I have a cat but have not had any problems with him jumping into the box tops -- I guess I am lucky. They are very affordable and they do double duty.
