Pyle PDMIC58 vs Shure SM58 and Others

I have a Pyle PDMIC78 (SM57 clone, which I assume is the same capsule/sound as PDMIC58, but maybe not) and a Behringer XM8500. To me, the Pyle with a pop filter absolutely embarrasses the Behringer in terms of clarity and overall sound quality. I usually prefer how it sounds for VO over a sE V7. But the Behringer has much better build quality. Pyle QC is bad. In the past they've sent out microphones that are either not soldered properly, or sometimes not soldered at all. You can (and I have) gotten near-identical no-name SM57 clones from ali/wish that are both better built, and cheaper. Overall, the Behringer just feels better than the Pyle and comes with a hard case, so I like it more.... I just never actually use it for anything. For the comparisons in this video, RU-vid's compression must be the great equalizer. To me and the $10 headphones I have on me, all the mics sounded almost exact the same to me. The exception was the 515sa, which was slightly fuller and smoother but darker. Maybe the 515sa is better for a podcast, but I prefer a more natural microphone for this style of video.

I'm planning on buying a couple of these to record driving noises from through a firewall into an engine bay and in the trunk pointing towards the exhaust. I can say, I think these will do the job well enough and I can always noise reduce in editing. I think these pyle mics get a bad wrap because people don't understand that you can actually do a couple of things to make them perform much more like the mics they're cloning not that I'm going to go into them here because there are plenty of videos on the processes on youtube. But bang for the buck, if you're going to be using a set of mics for something they really aren't designed for, pyle will do the job every time and they'll do the job over and over and over until you decide to upgrade. For what it's worth I use the SM57 clone for doing recording of a single 1x12 cab attached to a range of styles of guitars and an egnater tweaker 15 along side a couple of AKG mics and I'm always happy with the result that the sm57 clone provides.

Interesting. The Pyle mic sounds "clearer" than the shure mics and didn't seem to have that muffled, resonant/peaky sibilance thing going on in the 4-6khz region. It was really noticeable on the sm48, and a bit less noticeable on the sm58. The frequency response charts for both would confirm this.

The thing with Pyle mics is, at least in my experience, they’re very bright. Initially this bothered me but I actually prefer it that way now. To me it sounds much better to cut some highs in post than to boost a lacking frequency range. It’s kinda like a digital camera. The more data it can capture when taking the image, the better. Then you have more to work with when editing. That’s at least how I look at it

I REALLY dont want to say this. i rewatched the video 3 times to make sure my ears werent going insane... I liked the Pyle...alot more than any of the other mics. I tend to like alot of high end and the pyle just sounded sooo crisp to me. God maybe i am going insane but thats what i heard in my openback headphones. Maybe the headphones are why i thought it sounded so good? i dunno but great video regardless man.

Sir, I am beginner. I want to record my written poetry professionally. In which my line will go in high tone and will also come in low tone. Tell me such a mic and audio interface. So that I can record and mix later. My room is not sound proof. My total budget is $300. But a shopkeeper told me that you cannot do recording with dynamic mic. Please tell me what should I do. Tell me such a mic and audio interface that I will not regret after buying.

Well it sounded better than my cheap Jensens that I got at Kmart for $5. They worked for karaoke but so glad I have my SM58s now.

Not the 1st Pyle vs Shure video I've searched for. The top end presence is appealing for a dark mic application.Honestly, thinking of getting one as the dark mic (@45 degree angle) for Fredman mic technique. Pyle as a brand is fairly inconsistent not unlike Behringer brand products. I currently own the Behringer xm8500. I use it only as a bavkup to my Sennheiser E945s. Both shure mics are considerably better than the Pyle. Especially the Shure sm58, All that said. I currently own one Pyle brand microphone but not the one featured. Its a backup to my Shure Super 55SH .

Wrong:: I'm listening to this video through a pair of Sony MD7506 headphones. Neither the Pyle PDMIC58 or the Behringer XM1800 sound bad. In fact they sound good. With some EQ (post processing, they can sound pretty good.) I don't trust Dark Corner to do anything but brand snobbery on his channel. However, his conlusions sometimes being off, he does compare mics, and there is value in that. By the way the 600 Ohms is the important number. Most modern preamps are going to have a high input impedance of the preamp. As long as the input to the preamp (preamp rating) is a high input impedance, most of the voltage from the mic should be dropped across the preamps input and just a small amount dropping across the microphone's internal impedance. So, 600 Ohms should work just fine on modern circuitry. Update: Thanks for the video. I completely disagree with you. Based on your tests in this video, I bought a Pyle PDMIC58. I took it to a gig (and used the slip over foam windscreen for the whole gig.) I asked several people in the crowd, at various times how the audio sounded. They told me that it sounded just fine. One guy in the crowd was a bass player. He said that the vocals (through the PDMIC58) sounded good. I also did a test recording with this mic. It sounded good. (People in the crowd were very enthusisatic about the music I play only original music: guitar, vocal. So, the mic did it's job, just fine.) The high end is somewhat exaggerated, and leads to a bit of sibilance, but that can be taken care of with just rolling back the treble a bit, and on a recording, just editing the sibilant sections (attenuating them.) This mic has a bit more clarity than the Behringer XM8500, due to less emphasis on the bass with the PDMIC58. Would I recomment a PDMIC58... heck yes. Its a great deal, and a good little dynamic mic. If you're looking for big bass, then the Behringer XM8500 would be a better choice. If you're looking for clarity, the PDMIC58 is the better choice. Don't let this video review turn you off to the PCMIC58. It's a good mic, and a great deal. PS: they ground pins 1 and 3 (at least on the new ones), in the cable, not the mic. So, you can use an XLR to XLR cable with this mic, and get a balanced signal out to the mixer/amp. Update: I played another gig, using the PDMIC58. Once again the people said that it sounded good. Thank you for the video, and for hating this mic. Your demonstration sold me on this humble little mic.

Yeah. No. 😂 Saw a review of the Behringer SL 75c, another Sure approximation, but apparently not bad for under 20 British. I think it's well worth reviewing mics at that low price end for potential podcasters. Could you look at cheap adequate portable kit for out of studio work? Sure Dylan too will have some ideas, opinions, geekery 😂😂😂💕

Not much difference

IF you're using a dynamic for voice in the studio. WHY? If you're using a dynamic for vocals in a live rock band, no one cares otherwise anyhow. If you can compare apples to oranges you're a fruit -o-phobe-ist. DCS does great reviews and presents his valued opinion. Some days it is very difficult to discern the liars from the freaks opposed to those with evil intent.

I thought the Pyle held it's own across the entire comparison segment. $ 13 vs $ 99+. Really, the Pyle comes with 16 feet of mic cable. At what point is the Shure SM58 losing dynamic just the same. The whole cable length thing has more to do with the cable itself rather than the microphone, balanced vs unbalanced. How the microphones output is wired for XLR vs TS 1/4. The Pyle is really soldered to be a universal internal wiring, the cable you use determines whether the micro[hone is balanced vs unbalanced. There's hard wiring & then there's cable select wiring. Go ahead google/RU-vid any mods to a $ 20 microphone for balanced vs unbalanced wiring. The Pyle is a universal internal wiring and the choice of cable is what determines whether it's Balanced or Unbalanced. Very little is a problem internally for a microphone for grounding, there just isn't enough length for connections. Where the noise happens is in the meters of cable from mic to DI box to the amp. Just because someone charges 6+ times what a Pyle mic costs, doesn't make it 6 times better. If I'm paying what a studio charges, of course I want the equipment to be expensive. But I figure I'm really paying the gouges for rent or the commercial building really. Durability ? You know Shure's warranty on an SM58 is 1 year, just like it is on the PDMIC58/59. So what exactly am I not getting about this ? I'm thinking my 2 year old Pyle mics are well beyond warranty, still work the same as the day I bought them. I have a gut feeling I didn't get a special one from Pyle, that it will still work 10 years from now, just like a Shure that has been taken care of. The trick is, your microphone is like a tooth brush. Sweat & saliva is what is going to most likely damage a microphone. As for dropping one, don't drop one & if you do, have another $ 13 Pyle as a backup. You can buy 6+ Pyle mics for every Shure. Shure can't compete with Pyle or Samson, Behringer or any other $ 20 microphone without someone trying to sell the concept that somehow the dynamic passive microphone has to cost $ 100+, otherwise it's inferior ?
