Pyramids of Mars wasn't exactly top of my list to do, but I was about to do Planet of Evil, which precedes it, so thought I'd take a look. It's one of my favourite stories, along with Robots of Death and Genesis of the Daleks, so I didn't want to spoil it with anything too distracting or out of place.
The time/space tunnel is fairly iconic so I tried to go with something just as colourful while not too OTT. The invisible barrier felt it needed a subtle effect to enhance its barrieryness, and the that bit when Sarah shoots the box has always bugged me. I also added a little extra glow to Sutekh's eyes, but nothing more.

Another home run, cunningmunki. Loved the disabled TARDIS, loved the way you honoured the original Sutekh vortex tunnel effect while updating it into something v. cool, and the force barrier in the woods. I don't know if you do this kind of thing for a living but, damn, you should!

Looks good. The visible nail heads around the edges of the time vortex always made me nuts. :)

Wow what you have done with one of my favourite ever Doctor who stories visual effects is fantastic. I hope when we eventually get Pyramids of Mars on Blu Ray as part of Season 13 will be brilliant. Thanks for going to all the effort to producing and posting it

the telekinetic travel of the tardis key obviously dangling from strings should have been first item to be retooled.

All subtle changes but all excellent and blend veey very well with the original footage

The changes are subtle. They look cool and I can see how younger viewers would appreciate them. I saw Pyramids of Mars in the 70's so I prefer the original effects. However, an upgraded effect for the Tardis key moving through the air under the mental control of Sutekh would be a welcome change.

Forgive me if no one was seeing this before, and if my saying this causes you to never Unsee it. The new VFX effects and the recent Episode of Disney Who, kinda makes it look like when Sutekh is coming through that tunnel that his red sleaves look like evil eyes when coming through and phasing out.

For me any of the fourth doctors are my favorites. I will admit that I am partial to this story the Android invasion, Ark in space and the entire season for the key of time. Tom Baker is my favorite. Love Jon Pertwee, 3rs as well

For what it’s worth Monsieur Munki, I still much prefer your effects to the new Tales Of The Tardis ones (especially your deflection shield), from reactions I’ve seen, everyone spots the modern CGI and knows it’s ‘the new bits’ and it pulls them right out of it. The one thing I did prefer was that they skipped the pyramid puzzles, they are a bit silly.

I saw that, you 'nicked' the TARDIS landing from Seeds of Doom and popped it in, you know that Paddy Russell said no to the original scene where the TARDIS goes to the alt 1980, you could've used that by rolling the footage backwards and use a timed audio clip of the ship as it materialises over that, then technically it would still be from the same season and story and would look like it had been done with the sources available at the time.
@cunningmunki
@cunningmunki 3 года назад
yeah it was the most suitable I could find with the same version of the TARDIS, but I'm not clear on which bit you're suggesting I could use by rolling backwards? ...actually, never mind, I just googled it and found that you're referring to a deleted scene.
@Nige031077
@Nige031077 3 года назад
@@cunningmunki If the Blu Ray has some of the same features the DVD had, I can see why you used that shot, seeing as it was the TARDIS original prop box, and also the last time that box was seen landing in the Classic series, so yeah, nice addition. Keep up the good work, hope to see more.

@@Nige031077 thanks. I was getting my seasons mixed up and realised this isn't on Blu-ray yet! I'd totally forgotten about that deleted scene on the DVD (I ripped it years ago). I think I might use that instead, thanks for the tip!

I prefer the old effects…especially the time tunnel (corridor) in the sarcophagus.
@colinbarron4

IMHO the worst effect in the whole story is the scene where the Osiran war missile blows up. It is obviously a small model in front of a photo cut - out of the stately home . The flames look out of scale. Also in the scene where multiple doors open inside a corridor in Ep 4, the doors wobble a bit showing that it is a miniature we are looking at.
