Wow! That's a SUPER CLEAN specimen. Very minty! These are great stoves! Not big power, but bullet proof reliable, easy to work on, and simple to use. You timed turning down the initial heat PERFECTLY! That's critical. Maybe a little hot after that if you're OCD! But I'd take that all day, everyday. Your coffee pot cleaning story.....haha! Brought back a fond memory: In basic training in Jan of 1989 I got volunteered to clean the Drill Sergeant's office. My reward for getting the fewest gigs on my wall locker inspection. I guess they didn't want me to get a big head....... Anyway, on his desk was the nastiest looking coffee cup I'd ever seen. I got that thing spotless and gleaming. At 0450 the next day I heard him screaming in horror and calling me by name. "Morgan!!!!! WTF!?!? WTF!?!?! WTF did you do to my coffee cup?!?! WTF is your malfunction, Private?!!" And so it began. I must have done 200 pushups over the next hour and twice as many squat thrusts and other "creative exercises" as he "smoked" me all the way through PT in his office. Just him and me. Then at chow formation, I got smoked again by the other Drills for missing PT. They all had come in after PT and seen me getting smoked by the senior Drill. When I thought it was finally over, they took turns giving me the following orders on my way out the door, "GET OUT!", "GET DOWN!"(front leaning rest), "GET UP!", "GET DOWN!" lather, rinse, repeat about 10 time for me to get to the door 15 feet away. So they knew where I was. As soon as I was around the corner, they all laughed. It's all part of the game. Haha! Good times.....
Nice vid. After watching YTs regarding the heat output of the 502, I was concerned about its ability to perc a decent amount of Joe. You have allayed my fears. Thx!
Great video, been a long time since I made coffee in a percolator! We had an old aluminum pot, 12 cup, no guts, fill it with river water to about 2" from the top, 7 or 8 spoons of coffee, boil it 'till the grounds went to the bottom! Pore it thru a cotton wash cloth in a tea strainer, which all was stored in the pot, rinsed out in the river.....LOL! A shot of whiskey, Ahhhh, river bottom coffee! "Let the hunt begin!"
New sub here. I guess you can't be all that bad with the nice GPA collection. No better combination than the Pyrex and the 502 for the perfect cup of coffee. ☕️ Nice 530 stove. I haven't been lucky enough to score one for my collection yet. Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Just a thought. In the future if you're doing this in cool weather I would think twice about removing the basket from the hot coffee and sitting it on a cool surface. Possibility of cracking the Pyrex.
