During the 1970's, I travelled to New Zealand five times. My mum was born in New Zealand and I was fortunate enough to visit relatives while there. My favourite city there is Wellington, though have also been to Auckland, Christchurch, Palmerston North, Wanganui, Raetihi, Rotorua and Picton. Raetihi looks more like a town from the old west. There are even stores there with the swing open doors there.

Ive lived in NZ for almost 18 years, moved her when i was 3 and now almost 21, I work and live in Ashburton on a dairy farm i could never live anywhere else, absolutely love it here, such a beautiful country, best time for holidays are Autumn or when kids have gone back to school, roads are way less busy but take caution as we have windey and step roads

I moved to New Zealand for a year and had a great time. I don't think I'd be able to live there permanently though 'cause it's just so different from the Caribbean where I'm from. I shared my experiences though on my channel. Feel free to check it out :) I agree with that when you move, you should move with the aim of seeing the country type of thing. Best way to describe marmite and vegemite is if soy sauce was made into a spread so you dont want to smear it on your toast like peanut butter or jam (jelly) apply it sparingly on a hot buttered toast and your taste buds will love you for it.

Hubby is a kiwi we are living in the UK right now. As much I really like nz and it’s stunning it’s such a different lifestyle to UK and living in a city. I feel like I have to be older and more chilled out to enjoy that lifestyle! 😂

lol it really does depend on your personality. Once you're sucked into the materialistic way of living then you'll find it hard to live here with most of the population that dont give much of a hoot about what you have lol

Hello Mari, I live in California and I have come to realize that a life here won't really fullfil me and that I've been researching places to live and NZ has captured my attention. I think first step will be to visit NZ on tourist visa and see the day to day life there and meet new People. Any tips how I can meet people beforehand and while there on holiday?

i’m really trying to make myself feel better about making the conscious decision to move back to new zealand (after 15 mo being back home in america) because i felt like going back would be going backwards? except that year was the best time of my life! anyyyyyywwaaaayysss i love watching these vids of people staying there past one year, wish i had more brave before xx thank u for tips

The dreaded Marmite/Vegemite question, similar to the North/South Island debate. Sad to see you leave our small and isolated part of the world but you're absolutely right. Travel to different countries while you have the opportunity, every place is unique that one can only truly experience by being there. I'm your opposite, Auckland City may be small to what you are used to, but it is way too large in every way for me. I've only been to 2 places outside NZ, Australia and Aitutaki (where my parents are from) both beautiful places. I find your travel logs amazing, you're so good in front of the camera and take in amazing scenery, you really could make this a career choice!

Mosquito bites (to stop the itching and swelling)..dab on white vinegar, or the sap from an aloe vera leaf)...home remedy

Everything is very expensive and wages super low. Really read alot more before you decide to move here. I've been here 12 years, and there is alot of the USA that I miss but RURAL NZ is good.

Ah yes, the don't fit in feeling, I'm pretty sure we all feel it! I'm moving to Dunedin in July cause my partner is relocating over there. Have you ever been and if so, do you have weather advice? (I've only lived in places with really mild winters, like 15-20 degrees celsius) and hot summers (30-45 degrees), I'm from the south east of France and lived in Adelaide in Aus for 5 years). Or any other tips or advice if you know the city, or even if you know people who've made videos about it, I would appreciate so much! Thank you! I'm excited to explore the South Island (although, I'll probably have to wait until the end of winter).

That’s so exciting! I’ve only been to Dunedin a couple of times briefly but I really like it! It’s a cool coastal hilly town. I think bring layers and a good rain jacket and you should be fine! All the best

@Alliyah __ It would take me a long time to get into that put it this way, if you had never been outside on NZ, you may be satisfied but the same could be said if you never left Texas IMO you are limited in Countries like NZ due to their size why do you think so many people leave? its about opportunities just my opinion.

Amazing that New Zealand is a size of Cali ha? What's the cost of living there compare to lets say Cali or New York? I know in US, seems like each state has its own cost of living.

Yeah it's weird! Except California has way more people! In general is say it's a similar cost of living compared to CA or NY. Actually, maybe cheaper in day to day life, but things like food, shopping, and gas can be more expensive.

I am returning home soon with my American wife, and we will be living in the South Island. I am originally from the North Island. I have been in Oregon for about 12yrs, I am going to miss 2 day shipping from Amazon the very most. I wont miss Mexican food. I wont miss catching/ eating Salmon. Vinegar works will many varieties of bugs or dryer sheets. If you miss some thing that is so over commercialized and is about an arsonist, what more can I say .. Kiwi's are some of the worst rated drivers in the world. Do you or have or have you applied for full residency yet ?? I tell everybody that New Zealand is just like Oregon in many ways but Oregon is cleaner.. Thank you for sharing your insights..

Homesickness, I think, has much to do with not willing to let go of things we're used to in our original country of residence. Know that the country you're moving to is surely different, very different than where you used to live in prior to moving into your host country. Feeling homesick is human, though.

hi .my name is xxxxxx.ive lived in NZ for 51 years,im 52 and from NZ. Food-we have it-eat up. you live where you can work. we have more freedom than anywhere in the US. our cops dont go shooting people for stuff all reasons-most dont even have guns. sandflies-get over it or move somewherr vold. homesick-grow a pair or go home
