Every year at SIHH (Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie), we are given new horological wonders to marvel at 👀 and 2019 is no exception. Having now completed it's 29th year, I've decided to do a three-part Q&A Tuesday series to cover some of the latest releases from the world's top luxury watchmakers. You guys and girls have most definitely asked me more than enough questions about them. 😇

For PART 1 of our three-part series, I'll be talking about a company known for ruffling some feathers, Audemars Piguet. 💘 AP is no stranger to controversy, as they've consciously chosen to stir a hell of a lot of it. 🥄🔥 While there are a few other brands that come to mind when it comes to challenging the status quo, they still remain punk rockers of the watch world in their own right. Genta brought us into the era of the octagon and Emmanuel Gueit expanded on his vision with the Offshore. Many felt he created a monster out of the Royal Oak but no matter the uproar, the brand stood by the evolution of their creations.
This time around at SIHH 2019, they've pulled another non-conformist stunt and they called it Code 11.59. When everyone expected more of the same, Audemars Piguet said "fuck that," and chose to instead, and yet again, do something entirely different. It may not be what you expected but even with a new identity, you'll still find a little Royal Oak inside.

The dials of the 11:59 look lazy and uninspired. You can give the company props for doing something new but that doesn't mean that they succeeded.

11:59 case is really amazing and speaks to AP’s always terrific external finishing. And the movements are incredible. Would shrink it to 40mm. They can fix the dials over time. I bet this winds up working well for AP. Kudos to them for not making a “grandpa watch”

I agree with you on the Offshore rose gold rainbow dial! It is a beautiful watch and the rose gold does take it up a notch. I actually think that the 11.59 is also helped by the rose gold color. I initially was not a fan of rose gold, but it seems to be the color I’ve found myself drawn to more and more. Great show!

Thank you for putting the Tag Heuer wearing Nay sayers in their place. I bought an 11.59 and no online image does it nearly justice. The detailing is phenomenal and I keep discovering a new on each time I lift the watch out of its case. Is it a worthy successor to the RO? You bet it is. Thanks again.

Hi Roman, If AP is ever on the lookout for a National USA rep, I know just the guy for the position. Give AP the credit it deserves by making some bold moves. If Rolex delivered half of the number of new models in 5 years time, it would be the talk of the watch world. Thanks for your opinions. You realize that you are in the minority. A man with guts. Ahhh.. sweet. I'm watching whilst working wearing my A.P. 15400 with Calibre 3120. Stoked. Here comes a foot of snow! Playing the stock market. The 41 royal oak is perfect for me and I'm 6ft1 187lbs... The Royal Oak Offshore is big the regular royal oak is perfect.

Thanks, GMTs will always be collectible, but do get them with all the bells and whistles as it can mean a huge diff in the future

Hi Roman. Great vid but I don’t see how you addressed the criticism of 11.59: dial language is very similar to cheaper watches, 41 mm is a bit too large to be a unisex watch as claimed by AP, they way overhyped it and AP claimed there was a lot of innovation but if compared to any other independent watch brand (FPJ, MBF, Urwerk, etc) there isn’t much to that claim.

I liked the video too but that was one of my many gripes with this watch. They make a 38mm RO for smaller wrists then this thing in the same breath. It's growing on me though...

Edgar Salas I don’t think it’s ugly and it definitely has some redeeming qualities. I don’t know if I’ll buy it and of course seeing it in the metal is key to really knowing how attractive it really is. I think if they just changed the font I might buy it lol 😂

i try not to address opinions of others here, those type of reviews just bring on arguing, this is just about me giving my opinion and thoughts on the watch. As far as innovations its not a fair comparison as independents are always in the forefront of innovation as this is their way to stand from the heard. Of course this does not mean there is no innovation in the AP, its just a bit more subtle and rightfully it should be a company as old as AP is not looking to prove much to anyone, where some of the younger guys like MB&F for example still do. Hope that makes sence

I think it’s tough at this point but to me personally and I think most people beef with the over marketing of the watch and the dial design language more than anything. Ultimately time will tell how desirable and attractive these watches are once they hit the wild

@@Bteebz Exactly our opinions are just that, they may end up being the hottest thing or a close-out in a a years time, as you said when they hit the market we will see, probably around the time we get one in I should be able to do a market update based on demand and sales sometime in the future.

Hi Roman, Not sure if you are going to read this after more than a year posting the video. I went to AP boutique and looked at the 1159 in person. Wow, you are right ! Code 1159 is beautiful. I have 6.5 inch wrist and it wears really well. The case design is great. Now I am thinking buying one.

hey roman, thanks for the amazing and honest content again. I was wondering, does the Ap or Patek which come with baguette diamonds have GIA certificate? and if yes, does that means if the watch has 100 diamonds also comes with 100 certificates?

No they do not come with GIA that would not be very practical, hey issue their own diamond certificate in some cases for a general description of the diamond work

I like the 11.59 range... I would be a bit OCD about dust gathering in those lugs, while loving the case concept (I clean my watch backs after every wear!) I fear I would have to give up the day job to keep the case dust free & shiney. The crystals look exciting to me, not getting the hate. As for the Rainbow Offshore - while not big into gems on watches - this offshore literally rocks!! I am one of your female viewers by the way - my daily wear is a 34mm Rolex Air-King with a blue dial and orange arabic indices which I totally LOVE. I think 34mm - 36mm is my sweet spot, although I do have a couple of 42mm that I don’t wear enough because they push the boundaries size wise. I enjoy your take on the watch world Roman... and yes, digging your new hair too!

Thank you Soren, my biz partner Arthur is pretty OCd with his watches as well, but he uses one of those dusters in a can for those hard to reach spots and it works like a charm!

Hi Roman, thanks for you vid, you look 20 years younger with this new haircut 😂. I think the nicest is the 15202 salmon dial, it will certainly be a highly collectible watch with such a limited number. Many many critics against the 11.59, but wasn’t it the same when the Royal Oak was launched? Only time will tell us if this was the right move for AP or not. Regards.

Hallo Roman, Love the good content of the video's Having just watched your last Video i got a question for you: As a soldier my self i have always left my high end watches at home when going to work, but i'm going to Irak this summer for a tour down that big sandbox and therefor thinking about buying something to take with me. That would add a story to a watch i someday could pass on to my son and off-course as-well something nice to wear while i do my job. My question is then, what watch would you recommend for something like that? thinking something that is low maintainers, Durabel and off BAD A** LOOKIN!

Honestly I would just go with Casio, its durable does not attract any unnecessary attention and if you loose it or break not a huge financial loss

What’s up Roman! I have a steel Rolex Sub black dial ceramic bezel for my everyday and recently purchased an AP Royal Oak Chronograph 41mm Panda dial. I love Rolex and is one of my favorites brands but AP is definitely #1 after wearing the Royal Oak Chronograph the last month. I’m already planning my next purchase and I’m considering another AP but maybe in precious metal. What do you recommend as a third piece for the collection? Thank you!!

Thank you for the response. Update: Sold the steel Sub and right now I’m using the AP Royal Oak Chronograph 41mm steel as my daily. I’m considering the latest Royal Oak Offshore 44mm ceramic but I haven’t tried it and I don’t know if is too big for my wrist. Also I’m considering a Day Date 40 yellow gold or the Royal Oak 15500 in rose gold.

The frosted watches are beautiful it was created by Carolina Bucci also known as the Florentine finish that she started. She is a very famous jeweler out of Florence Italy

I tried to force myself to like this brand but just couldn’t do it . Almost bought the 15400 but didn’t like it when I put it on. I prefer Patek way more. AP still a cool brand tho, good video .

Will not lie, a little disappointed by AP but thrilled with Panerai. However at 40K Euro for a Military Carbotech and it's exclusivity probably will not enter my collection. I do have a hard time believing that the average 40k buyer will attend the Military training though where as being a military veteran myself I would love that. I would rather spend 40K + on a RD, AP or PP.

the CEO himself (one of the most arrogant ones in my opinion) said it himself that they worked on the movement and then he told them we cant put it in a royal oak so they came up with the design in the last year before release .

I agree with your conclusion. Having a 15400 which I love. Im buying another piece in April or sooner and I'm seriously considering a Roger Dubuis Easy Diver and I IDGAF I want to get away from the herd.. cheers brother. #leaddontfollow

Personally, the case, the curved crystal, the buckle, the movement: A to A+. The dial and the model name: D. I like the lacquer idea, but the font and font size just don’t do it for me. Still appreciate the brand though

Noooooooo!! Don't say the 1159 is good. I need it discounted heavily to get one. I love that Chrono, I even like the 3 hander. Great video but please don't say the 1159 is good.
