Given the apparent lack of preparation by the interviewer, Dambisa handled this interview exceedingly well.

Brilliant Lady.......an epitomy of a strong intelligent beautiful African woman

I could see in her eyes the passion she has for Africa. She's such an intelligent lady that's worth listening to. I'm glad that she's getting so much media coverage. I only hope that other Africans doing great things out there would have the opportunity of showing themselves to the world. I love you Dambisa!!!

I'm encouraged by the fact that she has spoken out against Prof. Sachs. I'm looking forward to reading her book.

How refreshing to hear somone intelligent, beautiful, and articulate express some concrete opinions on options for a better way, without engaging in emotional sensationalism. The way she is approaching this subject is one of the most tried and tested and successful - through dialogue, rather than debate. I think there is hope that she may become a presence that will engender some serious critical thinking around finding solutions instead of winning arguments or for political gain.

Dambisa is brilliant and controversial. But, her relationship with Prof Sachs has to be negative - he's a Statist. Encouraging the issuing of Government Bonds through her work at Goldman Sach is inherently inflationary. This doesn't matter for this aid debate. She'll be attacked by the left for being absolutely correct on the issue of foreign aid. Her message is very important. I love it!

Coming from the same town as Bob Geldoff and Bono, whose tremendous efforts and compassion I appreciate, I am nevertheless eager to listen to Dambisa and explore the possibilities she suggests in finding real and sustainable solutions to what is arguably one of the most shameful reflections on all of us as a human race. Let's not try to silence her, but let us engage in one of the fundamental principles of communication... and listen.

I am your fan to death! This is a great way to go if Africans could take your side and combat poverty without waiting for the other people to have pity on us!

Africa can be rescued from poverty and despotic rule by its own people.Intellectual people in Africa should come forward and try to influence the policies of their government. There should be more room for democracy and investments.Africa has the potential to become developed.

The developed nation and rising economies also have vested interests in the African continent.Africa is still colonized in the name of "Free trade",IMF loans etc. There will be a surge in the prices of food stock and other commodities,if all countries develop.

Actually, before colonialism things were pretty peaceful. Also, the reason Africa is in such a state today is because exploitation from the West and not tribal wars.

when she says 'there is no evidence of aid helping african countries developing' ...is she not ignoring the case of botswana...botswona needed aid initially to help them on the road to taking advantage of their diamonds... yes, they promoted free markets n became more self-sufficient ...but it wasn't like they ignored aid...aid played an importent part in getting them started...and from then on, good governance, free markets and their diamonds hve helped the country to grow.

She's right on the money, excuse the play with words. The facts are there and I don't think she's saying she's speaking for anyone; just questioning the accepted status Tayo

@yakmanok My take on his sometimes/often disjointed line of questions is 1) he's trying to cover a lot of ground in a given amount of time, 2) that's because there's so much people don't know about Dambisa herself, her ideas, and about Africa in general. I thought he was trying to educate the general viewer - like me - and did a good job. He was detached; I'll give you that, but he wasn't mean or confrontational like some. Anyway that was my take. Have a good one!

Western interference might have played some part in turning Africa into a poverty ridden continent, but it's not the sole reason it remains one. South Korea, in 1953 after the Korean war, was in ruin, with living standards lower than many Sub-Saharan African countries. They had great leaders and visionaries in power though, and they worked closely with the west and even old enemies like Japan to rebuild. Today, SK is the 12th-14th largest economy on Earth, yet still retains staggering growth.

@joakeimmcgrath I grew up choking down dinner while starving Biafran babies were paraded across the television screen, not by Mother Teresa and not in Africa, I would probably point to that mass media coverage of that experience as a cultural swing in the misery and suffering market

there should be aid to develop mining etc, but company would rather keep all the profits for themselves, wouldn't it be crazy if say most of the diamond money went back to Africa?

I don't like the way this guy is asking question. He is entrogating Moyo. She is very gracious and answers every stupid question this guy is asking. What has population of Zambia or father's occupation has anything to do with issue of Aid to Africa? This guy is very condescending.

Apologies if my statement will offend; The problem is Africa is in large part, responsability of the African, the "White powers" only took advantage of the situation , we Africans should stop fighting each other, have you realised that the fight is not one African country against another, but internal conlicts? want an example? have a look at Angola, so rich and severely abused by external sources.

I don't know if I can really take seriously a person with such a funny name. I just can't help but giggle whenever I look up at the title ans see "Dambia Moyo" "Damn, dat be some-myo-funny names than almost any I ever heard" Sorry, but that's how I feel and I'm entitled to my opinion.

This is a poor interview - the interviewer spend so much time taking about Dambiso's life history instead of going into the meat of her book, or analysing central themes from her book. African (as if we're one country) African countries should do everything possible to get off aid.

That's a fallacy thats been peddled for far too long. Quite a few Asian countries were colonised but they have progressed. Ghana agined independence in 1957 and Singapore in 1959 compare the progress of these two nations.
