Q & A: Engine Displacement

Understanding that nitrous requires combustion initiated (with air) to dissociate it and then feed more oxygen to the mixture, I've always wondered how much nitrous an engine can ingest before it's displacing so much mixture, and the mixture is so fat (prior to N20 dissociation) that it just doesn't want to light off and work well? Assuming the cam timing is right to keep things happy, is there a reasonable rule of thumb for how much can be sprayed relative to the NA power? Like 75% of NA or 125% of NA etc.? And I'm talking dedicated nitrous-built motors, not some stock engine (which I'm sure sure wouldn't love having power doubled purely on bottle).
