I did the potato 2 week reboot and it was great. I also quit coffee @ the same time. The coffee was hard to stop as I found myself very sleepy a lot of the time. This all started on 6/6/2019. Since that day I have one bite of meat (Ahi Tuna) and zero coffee.. I drink green tea from home and water. Like Mrs. Krock I was not a fan of soda. 95% of my liquid intake (not food related) is water. I'm down 28lbs. I am a Chef by trade (not doing it professionally these days) and think that helps me a lot with cooking tasty meals. I watch you guys to stay inspired!! My wife is now along for the ride. We do not allow any S.A.D. food in the house. I will start filming for my channel soon. Right now I am testing recipes and experimenting with my new dehydrator. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK.
Major congrats to you two...your story is totally inspiring. So many peeps are going to stand up and take notice because you chose to bring your story to the masses. Continued success to you and many, many more happy, healthy years living WFPB!
So great that you put this together!! Btw, I know you could do something like this differently, but Brian, your reaction to the corn when you first bite is in just awesome to watch. Every time I watched it... I was right there with you.
I’m 6 days in on the potato diet and you guys are my biggest daily inspiration. You also have the best videos on this topic. Awesome couple! Happy (potato!) Christmas to you both and to Peef too!
I lost 9lbs in a week. I just eat potatoes, but NO Salt, NO Oil, NO Sugar, and the boil potatoes help you loose weight faster. Now I'm on my second week and Im adding a little bit of ketchup and spicy sauce (sometimes). I only drink water and milk. If you used condiments, is harder to loose the weight. Drinking plain hot water will help when using condiments. It gets easier on the second week. The more time it passes, it gets easier. I may go for a full month. GOOD LUCK!
Bingeing on your videos & podcast while on my potato famine...you guys are getting me through thank you!! Brian, your tip (I think it was on your podcast) to tell friends you're on a fast day to avoid eating when visiting them...total game changer! 😊
You both are blessed to have each other I have my wife and daughter and they love fast food all the things I love come in the house when I change my eating and cookies. I am strong and I have a strong conviction when I get started I can go out to eat with the family and just drink water. I have 60 pounds to loose I will do it.
Doing this on your own is HARD. Especially if you're keeping it a secret from people, like I am. I'm hoping to drop the weight in secret and see if anyone notices over time. So it's extra hard to maintain focus and not just say "Screw it!" and binge
#question. Are other members of your families overweight? Have you both always been heavy? I’d like some of the background. You are both so charming. Thank you.
It’s crazy. The joe rogan podcast showed up randomly on my timeline. I bought penn jillette’s book I watched Dr John McDougalls video I searched for “potato diet” on YT and found you guys I thought my wife would never be on board but she’s down and we’re going to do the potato thing too. 🤷🏼♂️
I’m like Brian, I’m an extreme personality. I used to be fat. Then I started running. For 5 years I averaged 70 miles per week. Then I got injured and had to stop running. I got depressed and ended up gaining all the weight back and then some.
Great vid! Really useful discussion of the 'mental reset' required in the transition to wfpb. I've got a couple questions for ya... 1. I'd like to know if/how you've managed consistency with your wfpb lifestyle this past year. I'm 2yrs into my wfpb life, and I occasionally get side-tracked/discouraged/sugar cravings (mostly earlier in my transition). It's taken time to learn recipes and become more efficient at cooking. Do you ever fall off the wagon, or allow yourselves a special treat, and if so, how do you avoid falling down the rabbit hole of garbage food that society offers in abundance? If not, how do you stay on track so well? 2. Do you have support from family/friends? Do you know any wfpb people personally? I must say I think it's wonderful you have each other's support. No one I know really buys into the wfpb lifestyle, it's "too difficult". 3. Do you still get invited out to restaurants? And how do you handle those situations? This is one thing that almost always gives me anxiety, I always feel gross after eating oily, salty restaurant fare - even though I choose the healthiest (vegan) option I can. Thank you both so very much for sharing your story and informing the masses. Thanks for giving people like myself a sense of community and support. It's really meaningful. Almost forgot to follow the directions xD #Question :)
I'm on day 8 today. I don't do just baked though. I boil some. I've made my own homemade frozen fries cooked in the air fryer. I've also done the plain hashbrowns. Mainly I just need to change up the texture some. I'm so ready to be done for sure!!
I seem to recall Penn saying in the book you could have potatoes any way you wanted (boiled, baked, microwaved, raw), as long as it wasn't fried (because that added oil).
It's a lot to go through, whatever food plan you change to. So glad to hear you haven't lost your taste for them permanently. I'm just catching up on your process so will go back and watch some of your videos before I ask too many questions. Meantime, congratulations on your weight losses, and road to wellness.
Again with the humor! I love you two! I look forward to your videos. Thank you for keeping up your channel with such fantastic content. I smile every time. *Also, I learn something every time. 🎉
I want you two to be my neighbors! Love watching your down-to-earth videos that are approachable and delicious. I like that you are nutritarian, but not fanatical. I look as forward to new videos from you as I do to new Conan O"Brien Needs A Friend podcasts! That's saying something for me. Your midwest sensibilities are great! From a Philly girl...
#question. Do you ever consume alcohol? And can you tell us about the first few months on this journey how You portion controlled and felt with cravings? Thanks for all you do!!! 👍❤️. You keep it real!!
#question did you avoid Instagram and Pinterest during your potato diet? That’s such a trigger for me when I’m dieting 😩 also.. I love Peef!!❤️ (you guys are pretty cool too) lol
I've only been on the potato diet for 3 days and have lost 7 pounds, first day I felt really nasty but i feel like going on a plant based diet now. Tonight I'm gonna stew some potatos in with some onions and bell peppers.
I don't know if you knew or just happened to do it but by cooking and then cooling your potatoes you turned most of the potatoes starch into resistant starch that is not digestible and feeds the lower intestine biome.
I love your channel! When I first saw your video on the two week potato diet - I was hooked! I binge watched almost all your videos! I can't wait for more content to come!! My #question is - I know in some of your videos you say you follow a wfpb vegan diet but do you also follow a vegan lifestyle? For example, I am a vegan who eats a mostly wfpb diet with occasional vegan junk food, but I also don't buy animal products such as wool, fur, leather etc. I also go for the cruelty free options i.e. makeup, soap, etc. I would also like to know your view on this as well since your page is from a diet stand point. Thank you so much for the great content and delicious recipes I definitely will be trying!!
I couldn’t stop laughing when I read the “how many peefs is that?” caption. I thought Brian was going to put a thought bubble over his head of an image of him cutting up Peefs. 🤣🤣🤣 Excellent video and congrats on the incredible weight loss accomplishments you both have had. ❤️💪🏻🥬🥔
I like that Brian says he is self-motivated. That's really the only way I can do something. External motivations from other people just don't work for me!
#Question My biggest problem is cravings for chips and fries, did the potato diet help with cravings? Or any suggestions to help get rid of cravings? PS I love your music shirts Jessica
#questions. How much did y'all each lose since the two weeks? Do you crack up at the loose skin? Your have to have a sense of humor when losing lots of weight. I love bike riding when I lost weight but since gaining back some I really miss riding. I don't have the husband support and I was single when I first lost weight.
Hi guys, Just discovered your channel about 2 weeks ago and really enjoy it. Need to know if you guys limit your fruit intake. I have not lost anymore weight since my initial 20 pounds even though I am still 30 lbs. overweight. I am thinking consume to much fruit. How much fruit or specifically bananas do u eat? Also I eat oatmeal most mornings.
#question Have you started any kind of workout program, or did you incorporate any exercise to assist with weight loss? Thanks again for the another great video!
I do, because I am doing it solo! :P It's going to be pretty difficult during the potato weeks. You're only going to have yourself to be accountable to (unless you vlog daily, like a crazy person...). If you live with others, and they're not doing the same, then your pantry and fridge will be full of all the things you're not meant to eat... It's willpower and knowing your reasoning for doing it. I want to be here for my son, years from now; I want to not struggle to buy clothes in any store I walk into; I want to not have to constantly apologise when trying to fit through small gaps between seated people at events... :} I managed 7 days; I quit the potatoes and started my WFPB section because that 7th day I couldn't eat a single potato without gagging. I *wanted* to eat, though, I was hungry and got grumpier and grumpier as the day went on, and my son picked up on that and also started being grumpy... I was in physical pain from the hunger and couldn't sleep by midnight, going into Day 8, so I gave in and ate some slices of wholemeal bread... I think 3, dry, and drank more water. I felt so bad about not doing the two weeks. But then, the WFPB section has been ridiculously simple from then on, it's just trying not to fall into bad habits or allow myself to slip too far. I think the vlogging has definitely helped keep me honest, although this last week when my mom has been staying with me has been AWFUL!!! I've stuck with WFPB for the most part, still haven't eaten any meat (even though it's in my plan that I can, and I'm indeed due a day of meat eating according to my rules), but there's been cheese and takeout and oil and salt and sugar... :S I am not looking forward to the weigh-in video tomorrow! But I know that this is a temporary break from my own restrictions. I'm going to try and get 100% back on the wagon today (9am here in Berlin!) and stick with everything til my next scheduled break around "Day 100"; that'll be a month from now. 1. Decide on your rules and how strict you're going to be. I allow slight slips because it's pretty impossible to guarantee I am already following as strictly as I could be. My home has snacks and oils and meats in, so what works for me is knowing that I can have those at any point, and I feel cravings a lot less because I'm not technically denying myself them... make sense? 2. Likewise, my restrictions are a sliding scale: A. No meat B. No animal products C. No oil D. No salt E. No sugar I call those my rules, the worst consequences for breaking A, lessening as we go down the scale. You know what? I'll actually just cover this all in a video tonight lol
Martin the Great Potato Mage This is perfect and exactly what I needed to hear. I’ll try and stick to 2 weeks but it’s good knowing I’m not a complete failure if I drop off early providing I go right to the next step and not back to my normal eating ways. I’ll be spending some time thinking through what I want this to look like for me in the long term and how I can sustain it. I’m really looking forward to seeing your video on this!! Also, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed reply
@@NellysNerdyAdventures I'm so sorry it's a couple of days late! I've had no end of issues with technology... It's not exactly a perfect video but here we go: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BVbUYEPsry8.html
Now that you're sticking to the plant based diet, have you thought about the ethics of not eating animals? Would you consider yourselves vegan now? I know, a loaded #question
#Question How hard was it to stay focused at work while you were doing the 2 week potato challenge? Were you able to function or were you just too tired? And did you end up taking a day or two off? I heard you say you had the 4th of July holiday in those 2 weeks, but what about the other days?
I'm doing the 2 weeks of potatoes right now. It's really messing with my head. Out of habit I'll start thinking "what can I snack on?" Then reality hits me...Oh yeah, I'm only eating potatoes. I have to keep really busy to keep my mind off food.
As someone with a potato allergy, I find this terrifying. It's an interesting approach to resetting your relationship with food, though maybe seems like a punishment even if potatoes don't try to kill you.
The idea is it's meant to change your relationship with food and just kinda give you something bland that isn't "fun" for a while, help break bad habits... Obviously with a potato allergy, I can see the idea of this being terrifying!!! You can substitute most other starches in, I believe, like plain rice or corn or something; just so long as it's boring to eat. And yeah... definitely a bit masochistic XD
# Question : You lost 20 and 25 lbs in 2 weeks, which is great motivation. But if willpower and motivation is not a problem (knowing what you know about tasty whole foods ) do you think a person could skip the potato phase, and just go Vegan WF with the same results in lb.s loss?
You don't need the potato phase. It is just a means of resetting your eating habits. If you want to lose large amounts of weight you need to make some changes, and the changes need to be somewhat radical. If you are ok with eating fresh fruits and vegetables go ahead, I have done this and lost large amounts of weight (like 20 pounds in a couple of weeks) just eating fresh fruit and vegetables.
I eat a fairly healthy diet(5-8 fruits, and veggies, a lot of beans and whole grains) with the addition of all the crap too ( butter, oils, candy, caffeine, salt, sugar and a lot of dairy.) Been a vegetarian on and off for years as well So thanks for your reply-@@mrdanforth3744
@@eveny119 You are doing fine. If you can eliminate grain products, alcohol and sugary products, in other words carbohydrates, and go easy on fats you will lose weight and never have to go hungry. It helps to cut down on salt and coffee as well.
#Question - Could one eat boxed mashed potatoes, plain even not cooking them with the butter and all? Can you use seasonings on them? i.e....a no-salt season?
The two weeks of plain baked potatoes does not allow seasonings, sauces, or butter/oil of any kind. They are supposed to be completely plain baked potatoes. 😀
Not really a # QUESTION but....you're obviously doing amazingly well on your own : ) But I thought I'd tell you that Andrew Taylor at Spudfit is running a free worldwide mini academy for newbies on a potato challenge. To quote him "Spud Up!"
An article from last month says he is but he also does IF, only eating one hour a day. www.latimes.com/health/la-he-penn-jillette-weight-loss-20190615-story.html
Hello Linda! I am 6'6" and Jessica is 5'6' and a half (she'd yell at me if I for that half 😂). We do eat a lot of bananas now. Way more than potatoes. 😀 -Brian
Doing this alone, I thought it would be easy I like potatoes but it sucks. Day 6 for me know I dream of food I can not wait to eat and have almost stopped eating all together. Losing weight but wondering about longevity?
Yeah, people laugh and think it will be super easy. 😀 It just goes to show that people don't really like potatoes. They like the stuff that goes on them. 😂
@@KrocksInTheKitchen yes as you guys said your Mary's mini was a 1000x easier than this. If I could add even vegan food to them like spinach or tomatoes or peppers it would be easier. This is just chewing with no joy or excitement
