You don't even allow the gut flora to adapt to carb sources (each plant has specific fibers requiring specific bacterial species) and jump to talking about heavy metals, geeze... Plants generally help the liver to detox heavy metals, starting from supporting glutathione, binding to silica that is in all plant cell membranes etc - hardly ever a problem (sure, the risks are minimized even further when mixing up the agricultural areas our crops come from). Don't play a dumb here. You butcherbox salesman.

I love how Paul validates individuals experience. My husband is an ER doctor and always told me that my observations about my health or my son's health were just an N of 1, not scientific and not valid. Years later we no longer argue about this. I think each person has to do their own research on their own body. Sometimes I do fine with dairy, during allergy season I may need to cut out dairy.... everything is always changing and we must be in tune with our own bodies.

After ten months of 95% carnivore (meat, celery, tomatoes) with high fat I was feeling extremely healthy. I do think that's when my hole system got "reset". I definitely felt like that at the time. I had healed a long list of very specific afflictions in my body. But quite suddenly and soon after feeling my very best, I began to realized carnivore was no longer working in the same way. Upon arising I soon felt like I was having sugar letdowns and I was feeling sort of worn out. I also was not sleeping well. (I'm 78) So for another two months I went on 100% carnivore but the feelings of sugar letdown did not subside and my sluggish feeling got even worse. I consequently did a week of Lion diet but it did not change anything. I started looking for alternatives and came upon possible cortisol overdose from trying to make my own glucose. At that time I also read the book "Life without bread" which does suggest to keep some carbs in the diet. So I introduced low carbs again in the form of pear butter (self canned - no sugar) in a cup of yogurt, plus the celery and tomatoes, and it did eliminate the sugar letdown. I've been doing that now for three weeks and am feeling somewhat stronger again. I eat the yogurt as a dessert after the protein and fat and I eat an apple before going to bed. I am for sure an N=1 experiment. Still learning! Guess I am trying to say, if someone does not feel quite right after being carnivore, rethink your strategy. Don't just follow someone. Chart your own course.

I noticed everything tasted really great. 🤣 A couple other things I noticed were that I felt very sleepy afterwards, and of course, bloated. I thought I was gonna feel so bloated and miserable, but to be honest, it went away fairly quickly. I thought for sure that my stomach was gonna get messed up, because I ate chips and hot sauce, cheese enchiladas with gravy, rice and beans, and also cheese dip, and probably 100 tortilla chips. I couldn’t believe that it didn’t even mess my stomach up. I’ve been back on the diet since and feeling pretty good.
@VeganLinked

You're merely on an elimination diet and ignorant to the long term ramifications of diets that eliminate whole plant foods. If someone thinks they're doing better on the carnivore this means nothing for the long term and it does NOT mean they wouldn't do profoundly better on a well planned whole food plant diet of legumes, greens, grains, fruits, veggies, mushrooms, nuts, seeds, herbs & spices. There is zero evidence supporting such wild variation in diets that some people need to consume animals. There's tens if not 100s of thousands of whole vegan food options to choose from and tailor your diet to your specific needs and desires. There's an entire College of Lifestyle Medicine that is evidenced based nutrition. If someone wants to live right in the best way possible and has a hard time acclimating to this way of eating there's endless nutritionists, dietitians, and physicians that practice lifestyle medicine out there. There's literally no need to consume body parts organs and secretions. In the most extreme circumstance someone with a rare genetic anomaly might pee out too much taurine, they can still benefit from a vegan way of eating by supplementing that one amino acid, just as example.
@YonavKingOfficial
@YonavKingOfficial 6 дней назад
@@VeganLinked Just some food for thought. But if its the elimination like diet that 100s upon 1000s of people are doing (just look at the ridiculous amounts of positive comments of the carnivore docs videos - chaffee, baker etc) and are curing their illnesses and autoimmune problems that having vegs and grains etc were causing, then by logic they are eliminating the things stopping them being healthy in the short term which will follow through to the long term. And there is so many of these people that are doing it for many many decades and in many indginous tribes as well. By the way we are natural meat eaters from our hunter gather times and evolved to do so and thrive on a predominatly animal based diet, always have been always will be, we do not thrive on veges alone. Just cause u can survive without meat doesn't mean its optimal
@OttoBoy

I can accept his personal experiences with retrying rice and potatoes. What I think he might be missing is that these types of carbs have been absent from his diet for a very long time. The gut is a complex thing. Reintroducing a food item that has been long absent from a diet is not going to be initially welcomed by the microbiome. The impression he gives is that he didn’t try reintroducing these foods over a longer period of time - more like one serving then look for changes. He also tends to hyper-focus on issues within issues, in this case with arsenic, etc., and that people consuming certain foodstuffs that are hyper-absorbers should get tested. Some of the longest lived populations consume these hyper-absorbers on a daily basis. Again - totally accept his experience. But the “forest from the trees” often comes to mind with anyone who tends to be at the extremes of research.
@outdoor-explorer
@outdoor-explorer 2 месяца назад
He also Introdeuced too much rice and potatoes to start, I would of started with 50-100 grams of rice once a day to let his gut learn how to process it again. He is so hyper focused on the chemical compounds of the food he is over looking the basics.
@OttoBoy
@OttoBoy 2 месяца назад
@@outdoor-explorerhe also discussed how much processing he performed in prepping the rice in order to mitigate any potential toxins. Nobody I know does all of this with that intent nor to those lengths for any reason. Regardless of what is in the rice, I think what is critical is how the body metabolizes it and if humans have the ability to deal with the intro of potential toxins. One can’t accept metabolism without also accepting other processes of the body. Arsenic is common and has about a 10 hour half-life in the body, eventually eliminating it within days. The body eliminates it through filter organs, lymph and blood vessels where it eventually leaves through sweat, urine and defecation and is gone within days. Fiber is also critical in removing toxins from the body. Until he started reintroducing some produce back into his diet, practically zero fiber in his nutrients. The body is in essence constantly removing and eliminating toxins from the body as part of our natural processes. As arsenic enters, the body deals with it. Obviously, it’s a matter of dosage. I’ve personally drastically reduced rice/grain consumption - not because of potential arsenic or mold issues - just trying to corral my total carb intake due to both of my parents having insulin resistance issues. His video shorts would often show up on my feeds where he rails against just about every food item and concludes that his compact list of foods is the way to go. I haven’t seen them lately - hoping this is because he’s starting to loosen up on the dogma and being a little more accepting of the broader science. I can agree with his general philosophy, mainly the less processed, the better. But he seems to have an affinity with extremism - I think by his personal nature - as is exemplified by his extremes in diet and refusal to accept other views. He did swing from extreme raw veganism to carnivore. The pendulum can’t swing any further than that.

There is a study done in University of Sheffield on the way you cook white rice in a lot of water will actually reduce arsenic significantly (74%) to the point that it is negligible. Pretty much boil a lot of water (7-8” above the rice) for 5-7 minutes (depends, for basmati it’s around 7 min), then drain then put it back in the pot in the lowest heat possible to absorb the water. This is called parboiling with absorption method. It’s how my mom taught me to cook rice and back home we used to eat white basmati rice literally everyday as the main carb source for our main meal.

Really appreciate Dr. Saladino's willingness to experiment and challenge preconceived notions! It's refreshing to see a scientific approach to nutrition, where new information and personal experiences can influence dietary strategies. It's interesting to see some people critique incorporating carbs back into the diet, while similar scrutiny often doesn't apply to including other macros without strong scientific backing. A truly evidence-based approach considers all options! In my own experience, incorporating a variety of carbohydrates like melons, dates, and kiwis, along with water-rich "fruit-vegetables" such as cucumbers and squash, seem to aid digestion due to their enzymatic activity and high water content.
@MrQuadcity
@MrQuadcity 2 месяца назад
### Key Takeaways 1. **Individual Dietary Response**: Paul Saladino's experience highlights the importance of personal experimentation with diet. Adding rice and potatoes to his diet had negative effects, underlining that dietary responses are highly individual. 2. **Food Quality and Nutrient Density**: The quality of food, affected by factors such as the diet of animals and the soil plants are grown in, is crucial. Certain foods like rice and some vegetables can accumulate heavy metals, emphasizing the need for careful selection of food sources. 3. **Carbohydrates and Metabolic Health**: Contrary to some beliefs, carbohydrates per se do not cause insulin resistance or metabolic dysfunction. Problems arise from the consumption of processed foods and seed oils, not from moderate carbohydrate intake from natural sources like fruits and honey. 4. **Energy Production and Mitochondrial Function**: Metabolic dysfunction is linked to the body's inability to efficiently convert fuel to energy, influenced by factors like excess linoleic acid from seed oils and lipopolysaccharides from gut bacteria. These disrupt mitochondrial function and energy production. 5. **Calories and Energy Balance**: The traditional calorie-focused model of energy balance is overly simplistic. It fails to account for the complexities of food quality, individual metabolic differences, and the crucial role of mitochondrial health in energy metabolism. 6. **Longevity and Cellular Health**: Longevity is associated with a higher metabolic rate and the efficient functioning of mitochondria for energy production. Focus on maintaining healthy mitochondrial function may be more beneficial for longevity than calorie restriction.

So out of curiosity I decided to chance it again and had an Indian takeaway again. The same dish minus the rice, plus a spicy (not normally me) side and I felt fine, literally no noticeable issues. Still mostly carnivore however have been slowly reintroducing some things occasionally (currently oats) to see if an autoimmune reaction. So far so good.

so can a lot of saturated fat. If you are real low carb and high saturated fat you will see big spike in blood glucose with fruit or high carb meal. If you go super low saturated fat and high carb, initially one will typically have a big spike in blood glucose. But as your pancreas cranks up insulin again and cells receptors open up shop for glucose, like I experienced, those spikes of 150-180 that I had all the sudden are cut down to 120 and fasting glucose drops in the 70s and 80s. Key is eating the higher carb meals alongside lower fat. And keeping those sources of fat unsaturated. I went from insulin resistant to hyper-insulin sensitivity doing this a year ago. Now eat nuts and seeds as snacks alone. Big plates of veggies and legumes as main carbs sources. Oatmeal and low fat yogurt for breakfast. Protein-frozen blueberry shakes to hit protein goals. 10 hours of surfing a week or mountain biking. Sunset walks after dinner. @@carinaekstrom1

That is the normal day to day meals. But for 2 meals in a week, I will have larger carb servings. Usually once on mid week and one on a weekend. Because I realized when doing a restrictive diet for too long and when I have a "treat" due to celebrations family events etc I react very badly the next day. Also I had hit a plateau. I was 253+ lbs at start (115 kilos) and for a very long time stagnant at 200 lbs (90 kg). I found out that I was actually more efficient when I cycled more carbs in. This was a great video. I’m like Dr. Paul, I just can’t eat Rice and Potatoes anymore. I’m pretty much 100% carnivore. They kinda said this in a roundabout way but I think it’s safe to say that if you cut out the veggies and went to a more animal protein based lifestyle, your quality of life will almost 100% improve substantially. The opposite of that is people that incorporate vegetables either randomly or exclusively, they are more likely to have all kinds of issues with lack of minerals/vitamins, gut issues, inflammation issues, skin-hair issues, sleep issues…you could go on an on. Why not go with a sure thing and just stop eating vegetables that have so many toxins and pesticides? All vegetables have some form of toxin/poison to protect themselves that over time is not good for us. We were not made to eat veggies anatomically. I know about 10-15 vegans and all of them look really really bad. The only ones I’ve seen that can seem ok are the highly active people that exercise daily w/ resistance training but get their protein in w/ supplements, legumes, and some vegetables that have a little protein. If you are a vegan and don’t exercise, I can almost guarantee you look terrible.

His first problem is likely fruit which is causing him to crave sugar/carbs. Potatoes are about the last thing you want because of the oxalates. The funny thing about oxalates is that you can't eat something and wait awhile to see how you feel (and then-if you're fine-assume that you are). Oxalate overload is an insidious condition where it takes years or even decades for certain problems to arise (as oxalate is formed and stored in the body in its crystalized form); but by that time you've already done the damage and have to deal with clearing to reduce the condition. His second problem is not considering the work of the late Dr. Ryke Geerd Hamer of German New Medicine fame. In other words, his problem may have been psychosomatic and had absolutely nothing to do with diet and exercise (or activity level).
