My family just went home after yet another delicious Friday night bbq over Royal Oak coals. The smokey flavor you get from grilling over this stuff is nothing short of amazing. I swear by it and have converted many propane grillers to charcoal with it.

@Enchanted3DPrints

You have to find the right string. Take it out of the loop. Then assuming you grabbed the right string, pull and it comes undone like magic
@MrGoldarr

I just use scissors and cut just below the strings. I’m thinking of buying the big canisters that hold the charcoal. Buy one for lump and one for briquettes.

Just stubbled across this, from what we get here in Alaska, your lump charcoal is the best and most consistent, though a bag of small lump happens from time to time. Way better than cowboy (often not fully converted to charcoal). Use it for all my grilling, wish I could get the xl up in AK for my kamado!
@Stacy_Smith
@Stacy_Smith 3 года назад
THAT'S WHAT I LIKE ABOUT COWBOY! The pieces of 1/2 converted charcoal impart more flavor. Using a $10 starter iron lay some down, place the iron, pour more on top, and plug it in. It lights a little harder but the better flavor is definitely worth it. B&B Hickory is good too.

This old but, I will say your charcoal has so many uses other than cooking. It works beyond great in my terrariums and vivariums, works, great for filter water, also works awesome for cultures of springtails which are tiny little bugs. Hahaa just saying it does more than just cooks food great. Which I only use lump charcoal, I also start it with a lighter and tumbleweed.

I use briquettes for direct cooking and lump for smoking. I used to buy kings ford, but I wanted to give royal oak a try, and now I’m hooked on it.One thing I forgot to add is that, if you love steaks, use the royal oak Jack Daniels briquettes with whiskey barrel smoking chunks.. it gives the meat a very unique flavor that’s so great tasting. I don’t work for Royal oak and I don’t know anyone that works there. I’m just telling you what I have experienced after 33 years of barbecuing.I just found out about Jack Daniels..i wish I would have known a lot sooner about the product.

@@joeniccoli1916 Joe, lump charcoal works best in my kamado grill however, even with steel grills you will eventually shut off enough airflow to stop the burn. You won't save as much fuel as someone that can completely restrict air flow. I have a small outdoor gourmet ($18) kettle type grill and I am able to complete multiple cooks from the lump charcoal burned in the grill. Try a small bag and see if it works for you.
