Q&A With Ex-Catholic Mike Gendron | Ask Redeemer
Mike Gendron, a former devout Roman Catholic turned Evangelical, talks with Pastor Todd Burgett about his journey of discovering that the Bible is diametrically opposed to Catholic teachings. He emphasizes three key points when engaging with Roman Catholics: Establishing the Bible as the supreme authority, highlighting Christ as the all-sufficient savior, and emphasizing the promise of eternal life through faith. Watch this Q&A to dive into the Bible vs Catholicism.

Actually, the church says you have moral certainty in your salvation. The Church does teach you can’t have 100 certainty or what’s known as “presumption” because as the scripture says you must discern your heart and salvation with fear and trembling. You shouldn’t just presume you are saved without a gut check of if you are actually following Christ. Ironically, many baptists and Calvinists struggle with discerning if they “are really saved” and ask Jesus into their heart at every altar call.

Have you already judged yourself? Do you know for certain that the gates of heaven are wide open and waiting for you? Have you read the scriptures of final judgement? Will you not be judged? Hebrews 9:27 "It is appointed for men to die once, and after that comes judgement.' Ecclesiastes 3:17 "Both the wicked and the just God will judge, since a time is set for every affair and every work." Matthew 7:1-2 "Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure which you measure will be measured out to you." Matthew 7:13-14 " Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." 2 Corinthians 5:10 "For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ, so that each one may receive recompense , according to what he did in the body, whether good or evil." This is what Catholics believe; We should obey God's commandments, fight the good fight, and strive for holiness. We will fall to sin, but through the sacraments we continue our journey of sanctification trusting completely in Christ. The seven sacraments are very important, and very Biblical in the Catholic Church. The Bible calls the Church ( 1 Timothy 3:15) "The pillar and bulwark of the truth", and the Church calls the Bible infallible divine revelation.

When I was having a crisis in faith I went to see the priest, he was rude and told me had no time for me. Then I went to another priest, and I asked him if the bible was a part of the teachings of the church (I too had never read the bible because I was made to believe I wasn't privileged enough to understand it) and I was appalled when I was informed by this priest that the Roman Catholic church uses the bible only as a reference! I had by this time been attending a protestant bible teaching church. Praise God I was saved from an apostate church.

Mike at one point dismisses the early Church Fathers (“how can we know these aren’t the men Paul warned us about”) those that were in the 2nd and 3rd century, then in the same paragraph says the canon was discovered by the early Church. The canon wasn’t officially recognised until the 4th century. If he questions the 2nd and 3rd century Church, how does he accept the authority of the 4th century Church to recognise the canon? The Bible he has (minus the 7 deuterocanonical books) was compiled by the same Church he rejects.

The same selective use of church history and the Early Fathers as of Scripture, typical of folk who have an axe to grind, a particular pre-conceived position to justify. If the Early Fathers were false teachers, then the Christian religion went off the rails almost at the beginning. The Early Fathers he rejects out of hand defined what has become the core of orthodox Christian belief as enshrined in the three historic creeds of the Church. What an absurd position! So you’re gonna trust someone else’s fallible interpretation? Better yet, hundreds of years of fallible interpretation built up? There is nothing more reliable than going to the book yourself and studying it. I think Catholics don’t want to read their book because it’s too darn big. The magesterium as an authority is redundant, because if they say the same thing scripture says, great, I could’ve just gotten that for myself. If they say something different to what scripture says, then I don’t want to hear from them. Therefore, they are redundant as an authority equal to scripture. Scripture is the only authority we have to verify God’s truth. If you avoid reading it yourself to “keep it out of the hands of fallible man”, you put it into another. You would hope that their interpretation would get better over time, but no. Error gets built up over time. Have you ever heard of the game “Telephone”? That’s what’s been happening to the magesterium for almost two thousand years. The only way you can verify the interpretation is to go to the source yourself.

They have the same teaching authority structure you do, i.e. “We’ll interpret it for you and tell you what to think.” So how did Protestants manage to agree on the doctrine of salvation by themselves while you and the Jehovah’s Witnesses managed to disagree while acting under religious authorities? Question: Why does the Roman Catholic Church teach the doctrine of "works righteousness," that through good works one can earn salvation? Answer: The Catholic Church has never taught such a doctrine and, in fact, has constantly condemned the notion that men can earn or merit salvation. Catholic soteriology (salvation theology) is rooted in apostolic Tradition and Scripture and says that it is only by God’s grace-completely unmerited by works-that one is saved. The Church teaches that it’s God’s grace from beginning to end which justifies, sanctifies, and saves us. As Paul explains in Philippians 2:13, “God is the one, who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work.” Notice that Paul’s words presuppose that the faithful Christian is not just desiring to be righteous but is actively working toward it. This is the second half of the justification equation, and Protestants either miss or ignore it. James 2:17 reminds us that “faith of itself, if it does not have work, is dead.” In verse 24 James says, “See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.” And later: “For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead” (2:26). The Council of Trent harmonizes the necessity of grace and works: “If anyone says that man can be justified before God by his own works, whether done by his own natural powers or by the teaching of the Law, without divine grace through Jesus Christ, let him be anathema” (Session 6; can. 1). The Council fathers continued by saying, “If anyone says that the sinner is justified by faith alone, meaning that nothing else is required to cooperate in order to obtain the grace of justification and that it is not in any way necessary that he be prepared and disposed by the action of his own will, let him be anathema” (Session 6: can. 9). By the way, “let him be anathema” means “let him be excommunicated,” not “let him be cursed to hell.” The phrase was used in conciliar documents in a technical, theological sense, not in the same sense as the word “anathema” is found in Scripture. Don’t let “Bible Christians” throw you for a loop on this one. So, far from teaching a doctrine of “works righteousness” (that would be Pelagianism, which was condemned at the Council of Carthage in A.D. 418), the Catholic Church teaches the true, biblical doctrine of justification.

Some of the biggest names in Catholic apologetics are former Protestant pastors. Unfortunately, Mike Gendron falls into the category of not being properly educated in his former Catholic faith and then spread this false information to those who don’t know better. My advice to anyone who truly wants to follow Christ is to go watch a conversion testimony of former Protestant who became Catholic (there’s literally thousands of videos) and then ask yourself why so many educated leaders of the Protestant community have converted?

Such that for 1500 years there was a unanimous consensus that the Eucharist was to be interpreted literally, but it’s your contention that they had it wrong? Does that really sound logical to you? Mike Gendron has said that the Eucharist is hocus pocus and the fact that there’s been Eucharistic miracles (many unexplainable instances where the host changes into actual blood…look it up) is, in his opinion, the devil doing lying signs and wonders. Or perhaps it’s God revealing to the world who He really is and that the Church was actually right for the first 1500 years! They are all fair questions. *Fallibility* - Admit that you are fallible - Admit that since you are fallible, you could be in error with your personal and fallible interpretation of scripture, and the Catholic Church right. *The Nature of the Lord's Supper, the Eucharist* - Show who in the first 1,500 years of Christian interpreted scripture as you do, that the bread and wine in the bread of life discourse are symbolic or figurative only (see also Luke 22 14-23) - Explain how could Christendom have error'd so fast, so universally on this point? - Explain why should one follow the fallible gospel of Mike and not all of Christendom for those first 1,000 plus years? *Other Protestant Doctrines* - Show who in those first 1,000+ years interpreted scripture as you do? Citations only please on every topic that you disagree with the Catholic Church. - Start with Baptism being symbolic only. Who in the first 1000+ years taught this? - Baptism delayed to the age of reason. Who in the first 1000+ years taught this? - Eternal Security. - Who in the first 1000+ years taught this? - Exegete the parable of the vine for him, which teaches that one that was IN Christ can lose their salvation. A branch that is ATTACHED to Jesus Christ is 100% saved. Any branch ATTACHED to our Lord and savior ... is saved. Yet is can be cut off, bundled and thrown into the fire (through unrepentant mortal sin). *Trusting Jesus Christ* - Explain why one should not trust our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who made the following promises: Christ is the head of his Church (Col 1: 18) Christ''s Church is the pillar of truth (1 Tim 3: 15) Christ's Church is the bulwark of truth. (1 Tim 3: 15) Christ's Church is where the manifold wisdom of God is made known. (Eph 3: 10) *Christ PROMISED to lead it to ALL Truth.* (Jn 16: 13) Christ PROMISED that he would NEVER leave it. (Mt 28: 20) Christ PROMISED that the gates of hell would not prevail (it will not teach doctrinal error) ; (Mt 16: 18) - Explain how Jesus was undependable and that he lied when he said that he would lead his church to ALL truth? - Do you feel Jesus is not powerful enough nor faithful enough to mean what he said? *The Bible Itself* - Explain how it is that you trust that your New Testament canon is right, when it was decided 100% by the 4th c Catholic Church, Catholic Bishops who would disagree with your interpretation of scripture repeatedly? - Explain how it is that you believe your Old Testament is right, when those 4th c Bishops said it was 46 writings? - How is is that you trust them to get the New Testament right, yet they error'd on the Old Testament - and they ALL celebrated the Mass which you reject? A. Protestant Worship: When you worship at your denomination, you like partake in crackers / bread and grape juice. Perhaps weekly, perhaps monthly, perhaps even more seldom than that. This leaves as a worship service a couple of songs, a reading, and longer sermon. B. The Catholic Church worship at Mass, has the Liturgy of the WORD followed by the LITURGY of the Eucharist. *Last question to answer with your Son in Law is "How did ALL Christians ALL over the world worship on Sunday for the first 1000 plus years, as A or B?"* If A is true, he - and I - should be protestant, though figuring out which denomination will take time. 1321 Enoch and Elijah will not be present in human form Thursday, January 29th, 2015 @ 21:30 My dearly beloved daughter, it will be the Roman Catholics and the Jews who will face the greatest opposition in the times ahead. They will suffer discrimination, opposition and hatred as the apostasy strangles humanity. Their voices will be silenced as falsities devour the minds of God’s children when the evil one deceives the world into rejecting the Word of God. These two witnesses will continue to proclaim the Truth through those amongst them who are strong enough to spread the Fire of the Holy Spirit until the Great Day of the Lord descends upon humanity. The spirits of Enoch and Elijah will flood their souls and they will cause outrage when they bear testament to God, the Truth and the Life, which billions will reject. As foretold, these two witnesses will be opposed and fought against but woe to the man who tries to destroy them for God will punish His enemies to allow these two to keep the flame of His Love alive in a world, which will be covered with the darkness of apostasy. Enoch and Elijah will not be present in human form but know this. They will be present in the spirit of these two witnesses and it will be through their suffering that God will redeem those who are blind to the Truth. Never fear the Truth, fear only those who are filled with such hatred for Me, Jesus Christ, that they will stoop to every wicked act in order to keep these two witnesses silent. But, they will have no impact for the Fire of the Holy Spirit will pour from their mouths like a sword and cut into the hearts of those who are in the greatest need of God’s Mercy. Then, when the time comes, these two religions will be banned and those who dare to practice them openly will be accused of committing a crime. Burnt to the ground the Temples will become mounds of ashes and the world will delight in the destruction of God’s Faithful and celebrate their demise. After that, the sound of God’s Voice will be heard in every corner of the world and out of the ashes will arise the New Beginning, the New Jerusalem a new pure world without sin. Your Jesus

Mike Gendron must have a very low view of the Apostles’ ability to pass on the faith to the next generation. The very doctrines he rejects: - Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist - Primacy of the Bishop of Rome - Apostolic Succession - Baptismal Regeneration Etc. These are doctrines established in the very early years of the Church. You know what you don’t see in the early Church: - denominations - sola scriptura - penal substition - eternal security (once saved, always saved) Among other Protestant heresies.

I wrestle with my sin of pride. Jesus forgives me every time I repent to Him. Every time. I'm a bit younger than Mike Gendron; but, what he says about the catholic church is what I remember too. I know it's very hard to re-wire your heart, mind, and soul to anything you've believed for a while. Even after walking away from the catholic church so many years ago, I couldn't tell anyone I knew who my Lord was. Only what I was told. Pretty frightening. I didn't think I was a bad person; but, I knew I was definitely a sinner. And I firmly believed that no mortal man had any power to forgive those sins. I do many good things every day, but it's not about my righteousness. It's all about the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Jesus was the only perfect mortal man, and He died on that cross taking all my sin. Then, He rose from the dead on the third day. God's "inspired" word is truth for me. Christ is my only savior. His promise of eternal life through faith is all I believe.

" I couldn't tell anyone I knew who my Lord was." You went to Mass every week and didn't know who your Lord was? You left him on the altar. " I firmly believed that no mortal man had any power to forgive those sins." Scripture: _21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”_ Recap: to who did Jesus give the power to forgive - or not - sins? The disciples. Mortal men. "His promise of eternal life through faith is all I believe." Right, 100% Catholic. But to have faith is to be faithful to all of what Christ commanded. "Jesus forgives me every time I repent to Him." Side note. You are 100% right. We must repent to remain "in Christ." The Church of Gendron though believes he doesn't even _have to_ repent as he can never, ever lose his salvation. He believes he has "a permanent right standing before God" (from his website).

Also, you are assuming many things like God did this for you and God did that for you. You don't know what God has done for you and it is blasphemy to say that. You are guessing at what could be the real true but you don't know. None of us know. The righteousness of God because natural man has a says in Romans cannot know the wisdom of God. We all are trying and have different interpretations sometimes that doesn't mean that any of us are not Christians. It just means that the Bible has been translated many different ways and you've picked up on one you like. If it's your theology. Don't push that theology on other people because they may not have read the Bible the same way you did. You don't know the Bible. Mike. I hope someday you will know the Bible after your death and glorification. Good luck and your search. But I'm searching too and many things aren't understood. To give you an example, example would be Luke 21:3, the lady that gave two mites and all of her money to God to the to the collection. That is not what God wants us to do. It was inserted in Luke 21 but God doesn't want her to give all for money away and be irresponsible. Jesus teaches against that type of reasoning. So I don't know how you feel about that birth, but there's about eight different versions of the interpretation and all of them seem to be wrong according to John MacArthur. So lighten up. Mike, you don't have the answer. You're just a Christian trying to be a good believer. But you are bad like every Christian because no one is good. Says Jesus Christ. Only the gospel is required for your salvation. If you believe in Christ he says he will not cast you out. That's all you know. The rest of it is just prayer. The Bible is a prayer to God. Listening to God talking to God and doing the things you're supposed to do in the commandments in the Old testament. The Old testament is the true way to look at it. Isaiah 3 is a good example of how we are to live. It also mentions that women cannot be in power of any kind spiritually are. They will weaken men and be vulnerable. Man. Mike, I’m 21 minutes in and must say you are truly deceived. I’m a practicing Catholic and serve as a catechist and lector in the Church, so I’ll clear up some confusion. Firstly, you say that the Church Fathers are irrelevant in discerning the true Gospel, and yet, you have no problem saying that there is no historical evidence for the Assumption (which isn’t true anyways) and thus it isn’t true. Make it make sense. You also stated falsely that penance precedes absolution, but it is the opposite; penance is the temporal punishment for sins imposed by the priest and performed following absolution. John 19.30 does not prove “Christ alone” theology. In the RCC, we agree with protestants that Jesus fully satisfied divine justice on the cross. Our quarrel w protestants is regarding how the merits of Christ are subjectively applied. You also spoke with regard to grace and merit. Nothing which precedes justification, faith or works, merits it; justification is freely given in Baptism (Titus 3.5). We then work out that grace through penance and charity. Good works done in communion with Christ have merit (Romans 2.6-7). You’re correct on one thing, Mike: Justification is the dividing line between Catholicism and evangelical protestantism. In the RCC, we believe that the basis for justification is the efficacious word of God. God declares us righteous and makes us so. Evangelical protestants such as yourself hold to the invented doctrine of penal sub and believe that the basis for justification is a free license from God to sin. News flash: Jesus said not everyone who says Lord, Lord will be accepted into His kingdom, but only those who do the will of God (Matthew 7.21). You say the Bible is your ultimate authority. If that’s true, come back home, Mike! 🙏🏽❤️ Interesting how you cite Hebrews 9.28, but fail to cite Hebrews 13.10. I thought evangelical protestants compare Scripture with Scripture? Ever read the Gospels in which Jesus institutes the Mass? How about John 6? Scripture is not a matter of private interpretation (1 Peter 1.20-21). Mike, the basis for the doctrine of venial sin is 1 John 5.16-17. You says Catholics need to pick up the Bible, but you are the one who needs to read and think things over! And “the selling of God’s forgiveness…?” Masses for loved ones cost $5. Oh boy Mike, I bet those priests are buying Lamborghini’s with that kind of money… not! Get your facts straight, Mike! Catholics do not have a different Jesus. This is ironic coming from someone who believes a theology that was invented in the 16th century. Protestants departed, not Catholics! Catholicism is not contrary to the Bible; the Bible was compiled by the Catholic Church! Mike, repent! Forgiveness is as close as the nearest confessional! God Bless 🙏🏽❤️

The Gospel Gendron believes is the Gospel according to the Reformers. He follows their teaching that through faith alone you get Christ' righteousness imputed/counted on him while ALL his sins (past, present and future) are imputed/counted on Christ who already paid the penalty of those sins on the cross. However Scripture says in Ezek. 18:20: "the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself". Imputation as taught by the Reformers do not make you righteous - it only makes you counted as righteous while you remain unrighteous/sinner. In contrast Scripture says in Rom. 5:19 that through Christ we are made righteous. Eze. 33:12 says (ESV): "the righteous shall not be able to live by his righteousness when he sins.” Yet the Reformers taught you can be (counted as) righteous and sinner at the same time. Why being made righteous is essential for our salvation? Death is the wages of sin (Rom. 6:23) and the soul that sins shall die (Eze. 18:4). What delivers us from death is righteousness (Pro. 10:2); Pro. 11:19 says (ESV): "Whoever is steadfast in righteousness will live". Jesus said in Mat. 25:46 that the righteous shall go to eternal life. Faith is counted as righteousness (Gen. 15:6, Rom. 4:3) but Scripture also says in 1 Jo. 3:7: "Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he [Christ] is righteous." What was counted for righteousness to Phinehas in Psalms 106:31 was not faith but what he did as described in verse 30 (in more detail in Num. 25:7-8). Our ability to have faith and to do what is right, both makes us righteous, comes from and is only possible by grace through Christ as part from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). It is salvation by grace, not by works as you falsely accuse Catholics.

@@sudandhali7545 Catholics do NOT believe we can become self righteous - following Scripture (Rom. 5:19) we believe we are made righteous through Christ - no contradiction with Phil 3:9 and Rom. 3:23. Following the Reformers, Gendron taught that it is IMPOSSIBLE to be made righteous, contrary to what Rom. 5:19 says. Therefore the only solution is external/alien righteousness of Christ imputed on us through faith alone. Imputation does NOT make righteous but makes us counted as righteous while we remain unrighteous/sinner (in Latin "simul iustus et peccator").

Indeed, my fallen away brother, you have been and are being woefully deceived by these heresies. Read the next verse, Ephesians 2:10 "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. The next verse defends works as demonstration of your faith that you are indeed saved by God's grace alone. The Catholic Church does teach that we are saved by grace alone, but we must accept that grace by faith and live that faith through our works. The devil and his demons believe in God, but are in hell. What separates us from them? Our works. How we act shows what type of faith we have and if we have truly accepted God's saving grace. We cannot earn our salvation, Christ has earned it for us, but without demonstrating our faith in this through works, we reject his gift. The Bible is extremely clear on this. James 2:14-26 "14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good2 is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; 23 and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, y“Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”-and he was called a friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? 26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead." Matthew 25:31-46: 31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ 37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ 40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ 45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” How we respond to God's grace is key. It saddens me that your uncle could not provide you a better response. I pray that you and the others that have been misled will return to the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. If you seek a relationship with Christ, it doesn't get any more intimate than the Eucharist at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Answering Gendron on priesthood and sacrifice. Heb. 13:10 says (ESV): "We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat." "we" refers to first person plural that includes the person who wrote Hebrews. The word altar is related to sacrifice and sacrifice is related to priests - those three always come together. Following the Reformers Gendron replaces altar with pulpit, sacrifice with sermon and priests with pastors. The Scriptural basis of priests, sacrifice of the Mass are shown below: According to Heb. 10:1 the Law (of Moses) is a shadow of the good things to come instead of their true forms. The Law has general priesthood of all Israelites (Exod. 19:6), Levitical priesthood (male descendants of Aaron) and High Priests (chosen among Levitical priests, one at a time). The New Covenant, that came through Christ, has general priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:5, Rev. 1:6). Christ is the only High Priest of the New Covenant of order of Melchizedek (Heb. 5:5, 8:1). How about Levitical priests? Following the Reformers, Gendron assumes Levitical priesthood was abolished with the coming of Christ. But is this true? When God established Levitical priesthood, He declared it to be perpetual (Exodus 40:15). Numbers 18:19 applies “covenant of salt” to this priesthood, which means it will last forever as salt is used to preserve food. Covenant of salt appears twice in OT and the second one is applied to kingship of David and his descendants through Solomon in 2 Chronicles 13:5, which is based on God’s promise to David (2 Samuel 7:12-13) - God will establish his throne through Solomon forever. The perpetuity of both Davidic kingship and Levitical priesthood were later reaffirmed by prophet Jeremiah in dual prophecy in Jer. 33:17-18. The first was fulfilled in Christ (Luke 1:32-33) and the second one is fulfilled in Levitical priests of the New Covenant who are the Catholic priests. Another prophecy in Isaiah 66:21 says that God will take as priests and levites from all the nations, or they no longer have to be Jewish. Levitical priests of Judaism cannot fulfill Jer. 33:18 - without their Jerusalem Temple they are no longer able to offer any sacrifice and/or all types of offerings as prescribed in OT (Lev. 1 to 7). Christ Himself put an end to Old Testament sacrifice and offerings according to Heb. 10:9-10 by His own Sacrifice on the cross, once for all. What kind of sacrifice offered by New Covenant Levitical priests? Remember that priests without sacrifice are not priests! New Covenant levitical priests make present the same sacrifice Christ made on the cross in every Mass. To understand it we need to refer to Rev. 13::8 that refers Christ as the Lamb slain before/from the foundation of the world. The Greek verb "slain" is in Greek passive perfect tense. Unlike that of English Greek perfect tense indicates the action described by the verb (to be slain) was completed in the past with continuing effect to the present. For comparison the phrase "it is written", referring to Scripture, is also in Greek passive perfect tense. Scripture was completely written in the past and remains written ever since. Whenever you buy a new Bible in any language, Scripture is REPRINTED but it is NOT REWRITTEN. From what Christ told Mary Magdalene after His resurrection we know that He did not ascend to God the Father (who is) in heaven after He died on the cross (John 20:17). This meant He did not offer Himself in heavenly sanctuary (Hebrews 8:5, 9: 11) after crucifixion. The reason is: He already did it before the foundation of the world after being slain (Rev. 13:8), which is even stated in Heb. 9:26 where the phrase “from the foundation of the world” is also mentioned. The above should explain why Catholics believe His Sacrifice on the cross can be made present in every Mass and that is why we have priests and altar. Christ is not re-sacrificed in every Mass, just like Scripture is NOT rewritten whenever you buy a new Bible in any language. In the first three Gospels Christ instituted the Eucharist in the Last Supper. The Last Supper was a Jewish Passover Meal, and it is a sacrificial meal, not just a memorial meal. It is a sacrificial meal because the Jews consumed sacrificed Passover Lamb. According to 1 Cor. 5:7 Christ is our Passover Lamb, having been slain from the foundation of the world (Rev. 13:8). We literally consume Christ, the Passover Lamb of the New Covenant in order to become partakers of His Divine Nature (2 Pe. 1:4)

No venial sin in the Bible according to Gendron? James 1:15 says full grown sin brings death, which implies there are sins that do not bring death. 1 John 5:16-17 says there are deadly (or mortal) and non-deadly (or venial) sins. Gendron should also read what Eze. 33:13-16 says (ESV) Though I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, yet if he trusts in his righteousness and does injustice, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered, but in his injustice that he has done he shall die. Again, though I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ yet IF HE TURNS FROM HIS SIN AND DOES WHAT IS JUST AND RIGHT, if the wicked restores the pledge, gives back what he has taken by robbery, and walks in the statutes of life, not doing injustice, HE SHALL SURELY LIVE; HE SHALL NOT DIE. None of the sins that he has committed shall be remembered against him. He has done what is just and right; he shall surely live. According to the above verses whenever we sin, we need (1) to turn away from it (to repent) AND (2) to do what is right and just. Gendron may still believe the necessary of repentance but he will reject doing what is right and just.

What is perplexing is that Mike Gendron claims he was a devout Catholic and regularly went to Mass - yet he never connected the Mass readings or the Homily with the Bible? huh..... What about his First Holy Communion classes, his Confirmation classes? What about Advent, Christmas, Passover, Easter (and their subsequent correlations in the Bible) in a family that clearly celebrated all these events and that even had a priest for an Uncle? What he's saying is just not adding up (and incidentally, Catholics love Eph 2:8-10 - The Church does indeed teach that salvation is a FREE gift from God, which we cannot earn). His Uncle would have known that so sorry, I'm just not buying this story.

I’m not going to doubt that his intentions are good and he means well. But with all due respect, for someone who supposedly “practiced the religion” for 35 years, he does not have a clue what Catholicism teaches and why. His questions had fairly simple answers if he had bothered looking for them rather than abandoning it altogether. If the priests he talked to really responded the way he says they did (which I doubt) then they failed him. He demonstrates that he has no understanding of Catholicism and so therefore cannot be taken seriously on the subject. Which is ironic, considering his mission is converting Catholics.

The Comments here by Roman Catholic brothers are good. I have been in the Roman Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodox Churches for 57 years. Only recently I converted to the Bible Baptist Church. I suggest Baptist Theologians really study the comments here and write a book to show the differences of the Gospel and gospels. One thing we all agree: St. Ignatius of Loyola and Martin Luther cannot both be in Heaven; Charles Spurgeon and St. Therese of Lisieux cannot both be in heaven. One of the two listed above must be in Hell. Please be kind to write books, including the works of Church Fathers, both Latin and Greek, to show to believers because either all Protestants or all faithful Catholics and Orthodox will go to Hell.

Mike Gendron was not a devout Roman Catholic. If he was, he would have never walked away from the Church founded by Jesus Christ. The way he mocks God's Church clearly tells me he did not grasp Jesus' plan for salvation. When he crosses over and stands before Jesus, he will fall to his knees with regret and shame as his soul will be covered with the residue of sin.
