how to cherry pick on a budget: choose the best switches for the keys that you use the most often (eg alphas, spacebar, backspace, enter etc) then make groups out of the rest of the switches, 1 group for keys that you use sometimes (1-0 or f1-4 for example) 1 group for the keys that you use rarely (right alt or ctrl for example) and 1 group for the keys that you almost never use (for example the nav cluster on a tkl or F5-12 in my case). this way you have the best switch experience for the most time and only encounter the "bad" ones on rare occasions while not having to spend extra money on more switches.

this is what I always do nowadays, less time needed to lube too

No need if you have consistent switches 😎

Nice to have something useful to watch whilst I eat lunch; 420/10 video! It's really nice to see this series take shape! The first part especially is a good point - even outside of keyboards, it's a pisstake and you don't believe how many times I've heard or experienced stuff getting knified by customs or peeps like eBay GSP. I pretty sure DankPods famously had some of his NOS iPods knifed by them and tried to raise some awareness.

I love my Augur =] Thanks for your review of it -- it really helped in getting ready for my first keyboard, like what the build process looks like and your recommendation for 1.2 TX stabs really saved the day xD I did solder my win-key in my WKL board before I realized what I was doing.. so I will take the advice of setting up the bottom row in the future~

One good point about PCB testing; some manufacturers and vendors won't refund your PCB if it has been soldered. Always test before soldering or you may not be able to return a broken PCB. EDIT: The point about tuning your build is important too. I would also mention that it makes you better appreciate what you spent money on and simultaneously less likely to regret your purchase, but also gives you the knowledge of what you actually like compared to what you bought that wasn't quite up to scratch.

Loving the series so far, wish I could have done my first couple builds with this knowledge! Can't wait to see how you tell me to save my money in the next one, I'm pretty sure that's the point in the addiction I'm at.

Hey Simon, another good vid. Newb question, would you recommend preparing your switches / stabilizers months ahead of time of usage? Its what I've done but just wondered if there is a negative effect on lube.
@Blacksimon
@Blacksimon 2 года назад
For switches, it's totally fine to lube them far in advance since they're sealed. However for stabs, I'd recommend prepping then when you're about to build, since the high viscosity lube will easily pick up dust while sitting around

Nice vid as usual Simon. Any tips on QCing polycarbonate boards, both milled and cast?
@Blacksimon
@Blacksimon 2 года назад
good question. For machined PC I'd be looking for warping from the machining process, you want all your flat parts to be flat. Additionally, you'd want to check the UV protective coating to make sure there are no major scratches in there, as those will cause the board to yellow faster than usual. Finally, check the strength of your screw taps/inserts. Make sure any metal screw taps are well glued into the case and not loose and flopping around.

Hi Simon may I ask it is worth to buy werk.one 75? I am confused why it is sold 700usd. I am now looking at this board and jjw's moment60. Their structure looks similar and both gb are very close. Moment60 is about 4xx usd but I want a really nice high end keyboard. Which one will you perfer?

I personally think that 700 USD is not a fair price to ask for an alu 75%. I'd hold on to your money and wait for a project that really wows you (and isn't $700)
