The only quiz in the world where anyone has ever thought of Amy Johnson before Amelia Earhart. Good on you, Sue!
@lesleyhawes6895
@lesleyhawes6895 3 года назад
Sue is British, we have more folk memory about Amy Johnson than Amelia Erhart (can't even spell her name.) Sorry.
@WeaselKing1000
@WeaselKing1000 3 года назад
@@lesleyhawes6895 That may be the case for older generations of Britons and/or people heavily into aviation as an interest. As a quizzer, I can tell you that among younger Britons that folk memory is severely challenged by the amount of coverage Amelia Earhart gets. Particularly her disappearance, which is a real pot-boiler for mystery fanatics. The number of times I've seen Earhart given as an answer for Johnson. The two should be equally well known - it's rather sad.

In school we used to fold them like the traditional paper planes but then fold the wings again, making a much slimmer dart shape which flew much further and faster
@drewlovelyhell4892
@drewlovelyhell4892 3 года назад
We learnt the trick of folding a thick nosecone, giving the dart a lot of mass at the front. Then if you give it a good hard throw, the momentum carries it through the air, keeping the speed up so the lifing surfaves have time to work.
@ThatDonChannel
@ThatDonChannel 2 года назад
The one Stephen throws is a paper version of something called a Toobee, which were made from aluminum cans and briefly popular in the 1970s. In fact, there is at least one RU-vid video about them.

technically something like that last plane is theoretically possible, supposing there's an inner and outer cylinder - the outer cylinder does the rotating - the inner one stays level thanks to the use of gyroscopes - so the passengers would be fine - much the same way a stabilising gimbal on a camera tripod works

@escobruh

+theawesomesausage I have a few: -Difficult to put seating or cargo in -Good glider, not necessarily a good powered plane, will be very hard to change direction Maybe it would be good for just firing towards the general area and hoping it goes the right way.
@edancoll3250
@edancoll3250 8 лет назад
1. Steering would be a nightmare. It would require a 'collective' like helicopters have, only the whole aircraft is spinning. 2. Dizziness. Visual navigation will be impossible. 3. Takeoff requires a tremendous catapult. 4. Landing?! 5. Where will the passengers and cargo even be? 6. Generating lift is unreliable. Flaps pointing up at one moment will be point down half a revolution later. If the controls fail, you have no lift generation.

An excellent example of a difference between men and women. We all had that experience at school. Calm down. Not better or worse. Just different. Men think about and play with such things by nature. Women have other things that concern them. It's OK. We're made that way. Some women could be the best in the world at making/throwing a paper airplane. A lot of men could suck at it. But in general... well... you just watched what normally happens.
@tobymartin2137
@tobymartin2137 8 лет назад
I'm glad you admitted it's a generalisation - I, a male, was catastrophically and biblically terrible at making paper aeroplanes and still have no idea how it's down, but it's not something I let bother me. As you say, other things that concern me.

@ionlymadethistoleavecoment1723
S JN oh it makes much more sense. But since everyone here says "march 5" instead of "the fifth of march", it's a logical step for our numbering system to follow the same format.
@ImmaterialDigression
@ImmaterialDigression 7 лет назад
What the hell is an "airplane". Nobody says something is airdynamic it is aerodynamic. Bloody Americans decided they were called planes and they flew in the air which is exactly the kind of rot that leads to voting in presidents like Bush and Trump. The plane is the shape of the wings. Honestly.
