Qi stands for Quite Interesting. Each series has 12 episodes. each series deals with a letter of the alphabet. The Host was Stephan Fry for the first 13 series, later Sandi Toskvig, currently they have completed series T. Each episode deals with a different word or theme of that series letter. Thus the first series episodes were entitled, Adam, Astronomy, Aquatic Animals, Atoms, Advertising, Antidotes and so forth. The show really is a major part of British telvision and culture and rarely fails to be Quite Interesing and very entertaining. Alan Davis has been the constant guest and butt of most of the jokes in every episode, with the other 3 panel members, changing every week.

It is filmed in front of a studio audience so the laughter is real. The show also explores misconceptions on certain topics and subjects that we believe to be true only to find it is not true at all. Stephen Fry the host in so intelligent and well read that I could listen to him all day.

Canned laughter is an American thing. We have real audiences in the UK. I could hear them perfectly, but my ears are very good. About the only part of me that still works. I'd hate them to control the level of laughter because it's all part of the fun. QI is one of our best panel shows. The idea is to give clever, funny answers and avoid the obvious but wrong answers. It's always educational and always brilliantly funny.
@spoton6010

I think it's less about your hearing and more about how familiar you are with the various accents. If you have to focus to understand an accent, you can pretty much forget understanding it through loud laughing

They don't have to control the laughter, they just have to mix the audio better. This was awful.

Not always, canned laughter most definitely is a thing here, particularly in sketch comedy programmes and sitcoms, but not in QI and other panel shows. The US used to say "filmed infront of a live audience" at the beginning of a programme when it wasn't canned laughter. I don't know if they still do that.

There you go! This is another Rabbit hole to go down. Qi ( Quite interesting) is a BBC Tv panel show originally presented (2003-2016) by Stephen Fry where he asked the panel obscure but interesting questions they THOUGHT they knew the answers to, but are invariably wrong and they got points deducted for THAT answer, but GOT points for coming up with either the correct answer or a funny alternative story or theory to what most people believe the answer is/was. It’s VERRY entertaining . The show was taken over by actress/ raconteur Sandi Toksvig ( a regular panelist on the original Stephen Fry shows) and runs to this day.

Filmed in front of an audience. The audience often participates and scores points. This is a game show/comedy panel show all in one. Alan, the curly haired guy is a regular and is often the butt of jokes by the quiz master. The quiz master is Stephen Fry who was one half of comedy duo Fry and Laurie. You will know Hugh Laurie as genius doctor House. Fry is in fact a genius, extremely intelligent.Apart from Alan (Alan Davies, a comedian and actor) and Stephe, who are in every episode, there are 4 other contestants (various comedians and special guests) that are intermittent guests that rotate in and out on an infrequent basis. The show is intended to be fun and informative.

Q.I . Is Quite Interesting , its panel show but a little different fom notmal,the audience is in the studio ,they used to award points for answers in a random and arbitrary fashion ,its just an excuse for a laugh and banter from panelists, some shows can be a bit anarchic Its been running for many years, The host Stephen Fry has been replaced by Sandy Toksvig .Both of these these presenters have been chosen because they are intelligent, clever and witty,glad you enjoyed it .❤

No, the audience is actually there. My daughter has been there and they sometimes show the audience or involve the audience. Most reactors find it difficult to show much of the show because of copyright. I believe the reason USA has never made there own version or shown the British version is because so many of the clips, pictures etc that are used on the show involve paying, or obtaining permissions from multiple organisations etc for them. It is a show that has been going for years. Like all British shows that involve comedians points awarded are irrelevant. Interest and fun are what is important. Indeed the premise of the show is giving interesting answers rather than the correct, obvious answers. You possibly can get away with showing the odd clip. They are worth doing because they are hilarious.

This is one of the funniest ever segments of QI. It is true that a lot of species became endangered or even extinct because of the impact of man. The most famous case is that of the Dodo, a flightless bird with no natural predators which became extinct after man turned up. It wasn't humans who wiped them out though, it was dogs brought over by men, who had a field day gorging on these defenceless creatures.

No... bison were being killed off by _Americans_ and in bigger numbers. In fact, the _US_ Army specifically promoted their slaughter. An estimated eight million bison roamed the United States in 1870, which - according to my history books was approximately 100 years after independence - and just 20 years later fewer than 500 of the iconic animals remained. Why is it, if anything bad is noted by an American, it's automatically blamed on Europeans?

You would have heard of "Mock Turtle Soup" , it was created to mimic the taste of giant tortoises. Mammals are warm blooded animals, so unless their bodies can store large amounts of fats and water eg camels, they will need and drink almost every day. Hibernation is one instance where mammals will not require food for a long period but often you'll find many of these animals store up body fat. Cold blooded animals like snakes can go months without eating, a croc can go a full 12 months with no food. They have slower digestive systems, so you'll often find them laying still for hours or days. If you go to the depths of the ocean you'll see giant animals that often have to survive on little food, but they also spend a lot less energy by moving slowly. So in depths below you'll get giant crabs and squids etc. Evolution has decided in their case, that being big is the best survival technique.

The other comments explain a bit of QI.. The format is loosely a " discussion quiz" in that the panellists are given points for interesting knowledge but an alarm goes off and they are deducted points for obvious answers . The audience can contribute on occasion and get points when Stephen or Sandy reads the scores - usually minus points . I think the sound balance on the clip was for copyright reasons .

I sort of envy you for not having seen any QI. Now you can watch it all. It's brilliant. I think this clip was the second one I saw of the show, and it made me start watching it from the start. The first one that got me interested was one about how the teacup held China back as Europe started taking over scientifically: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N0OhXxx7cQg.html My tip is to start watching whole episodes, as watching clips makes you miss some of the funny references. They have tried to make this show in so many countries and almost all of them have failed horribly. The secret seems to be to only have well established comedians (and some other celebrities as guests) on the show that don't have to show off, but only are there to entertain. Having a bunch of insecure wannabes that won't risk looking foolish has killed most copies. The only other one I've heard was OK was the Dutch one.
