Frequency of interaction has to factor into it. People aren't afraid of horses because 999 times out of 1000, the interaction is safe. It's not the number of deaths connected to a species that makes it 'deadly', it's how likely you are to die in any given encounter with one.

You should have asked what's the deadliest native animal. Because then it must be close between ants (anaphylactic shock) and kangaroos/emus (road accidents). Native Aussie bees don't sting, only the imported European ones do. Sharks kill maybe once or twice a year, snakes is the same, crocs a bit less. All animals such as box jellyfish, stonefish or blue ringed octopus are less than one death a year on average. Australia is incredibly safe if you go outdoors. You are far more likely to die in the savannah in Africa because of hippos, and carnivores, or in some parts of the US because of grizzly bears. It's amazing that with all the poisonous animals, Australia is about as safe as Europe, which barely has anything left in terms of wildlife...
@jaxativejax662
@jaxativejax662 6 лет назад
I assume that you mean *bees* not *ants*, The species might be called European Honey Bees but they've been here long enough to wear wife beaters. Roos do cause a lot of accidents but statistically dogs cause more and horses are by far the most dangerous by the numbers. The environment, large parts of Australia are barren, hot and dry, is very dangerous to those who don't take it seriously.

@MrTVx99
@MrTVx99 7 лет назад
binaway Yeah it's like asking what's the deadliest drug and the answer being tobacco simply because most people die from it. Or you could look at it another way such as which causes the most harm to the human. The question should be, which drug causes the most deaths, now you won't be confused about what question I'm actually asking.
@Sabbat7001
@Sabbat7001 7 лет назад
Ace Reaction again, that misses the point of the show. They're supposed to trick you into the obvious answer which is why they have that buzzer that sounds when people use one.
@MrTVx99
@MrTVx99 7 лет назад
Sabbat7001 No. They ask you questions which are usually myths and not exactly true and people answer the myths since they think that's correct or they ask very interesting questions which few people know the answer too. Here they didn't even clarify the question. This question can be implied in many different ways, that's not what this show normally does.

Fun story: One of Dad's workmates narrowly avoided death by horse a number of years back driving in Noosa. He was going 100km/h down Noosa-Cooroy Rd at night in a little soft top convertible when a horse ran across right at the last second. Trees either side of the road so if he swerved he'd probably hit one at full speed, so he unhooked his seatbelt and dove into the passenger seat. The car went under the horse, knocking out the legs while the body tore off the entire roof of the car, but the dude was unharmed. I imagine the horse would have been injured but it managed to run away before he got out of the car. Moral of the story? fuck knows cuz apparently taking off your seat belt can save your life it seems.
@firstname405
@firstname405 5 лет назад
Simply ducking with your belt on surely would have worked just as well. That way you don't get flung out of a 100km/hr car as well
@MotoCat91
@MotoCat91 5 лет назад
@@firstname405 For a lap belt I agree, but the over shoulder ones that all cars have these days would stop you from laying down pretty quick. Personally though if I'm driving on a road known to have animals in the middle of the night I just go slower. The thought of having a broken car/bike and no money to fix it is honestly scarier than a trip to the hospital
@firstname405
@firstname405 5 лет назад
@@MotoCat91 yeah absolutely, going slower is definitely the best option. That saved me many dead wombats and wrecked cars. I do still think it would be easier and quicker to just lean sideways past the belt than it would be to fumble for the button and remove the belt.

I assumed pet dogs. You can't always blame a horse if the rider falls off. It's different if the horse throws the rider off. Most of the time it's the rider attempting to make the horse jump or change direction too quickly that they lose their saddle.

If a person falls off a horse that doesn't make horses the deadliest animal; that makes horseback _riding_ a popular deadly activity. When factoring in for deadliest creatures it should only be with regards to not intentionally working with such creature
@moomies2495

Yeah, this is a dumb answer. This is death caused by human behaviour. The horse isn't doing anything. I want to know the true answer.
@faitheverard8868
@faitheverard8868 4 года назад
You have to understand that most “falls” happen because a horse deliberately throws a person off through bucking. Being kicked in the head also causes death by horse. It’s fairly obvious the horse killed the person in these situations. It’s like saying the human should have been more mindful of the crocodile while brushing its teeth. It doesn’t change the fact that they were ultimately killed by the croc.

The deadliest animal might be the bee, because so many people have allergies to its sting. Or the inland taipan, arguzbly the deadliextsnake in the world. Or the mosquito, because it spreads diseases such as ross river fever. Or mussels, be zuse of food poisoning.or humsns, who have wioed out about 80% of the native biomass in the last 200 years. The question was asked incorrectly. The deadliest animal is not the horse, as the percentage of deaths or injuries with horse encounters is very low. The correct wording would have been “what animal causes the most deaths in Australia” or something along those lines. With the wording the way it was asked, you’d have assumed that it would have been blue ring octopus, Taipan, funnelweb etc. theculturetrip.com/pacific/australia/articles/australias-11-deadliest-animals/

I wouldn't really say that horses are necessarily the most dangerous animal in Australia. For one, they aren't just native to Australia but even ignoring that, they don't really directly cause he deaths. If he had said the animal involved in he most deaths maybe that would make sense. Also, are kangaroos not dangerous in Australia? I'm sure it's uncommon people get bludgeoned to death by them but it seems in some areas they sort of wander around neighbourhoods so are they ever involved in collisions?
@SanguinePantherThe1s
@SanguinePantherThe1s 7 лет назад
They tend to avoid people, as far as I've found. We almost hit them fairly frequently with cars, and due to their size that could easily cause a crash (I imagine similar to hitting a ...deer?) which is why they're a nuisance. But even though they can easily kill humans with their bare, creepy fingered hands, they don't bother. source: almost hit one with an arrow once, had to go collect the arrow about a metre from the roo, and he let me live
