I am, hands down, still super amazed that we consistently get to mainline Alton Brown straight into our veins. Quarantine Quitchen has, for better or worse, become a staple in my life every month.
Alton, we will follow you to whichever streaming service treats you and Elizabeth the best. Whether it’s free or we pay for it, I think I speak for the vast majority of us when I say we don’t care, we are happy to support you guys.
I have such a crazy work schedule I usually have to watch the replays but I so enjoy it! I get home from work, make myself a cocktail, sit back relax, and watch Alton and Elizabeth
Thanks to both of you, and the pups, for continually being the happiest part of my week. Just love youguys so much!! I appreciate youguys’ presence and helping me grieve my recent loss and ongoing pain situation. I really appreciate you more than words. Youguys make me laugh til I cry, smile, and feel so dang happy. Love ya’ll!!!
I think that Amazon Prime is probably the most stable streaming service available right now, and most people have it just because we rely on Amazon so much. I would watch another season of Iron Chef, but I really prefer non-competition cooking shows right now. I'd love something like Good Eats, but I'd LOVE to see Alton and Elizabeth doing a food travel show! I seriously want the first episode to be in France, visiting the restaurant Alton referenced in his Good Eats episode about Bouillabaisse (assuming that was a real story and not something made up for TV).
I vote for good eats on Netflix but with lots of drinking and swearing. Or maybe a new show with the same drinking and swearing theme called “Alton Brown Raw”
Thanks again for this week! It’s always a good night on QQuesday! The dish was New York Times Cooking recipe Red Curry Lentils With Sweet Potatoes and Spinach by Lidey Heuck Modifications included upping the spices across the board. AB suggested using chicken broth instead of veggie for more body. They didn’t have any spinach or rice, so they did without and still rated the recipe highly. The drink was Nerds with Knives’ Thai Basil Gimlet by Emily Clifton Modifications included extra gin, extra lime, and some ginger The Fissler vitavit comfort manual is available online in English, but strangely the English version on their site isn’t … in … English? See you all next week! Stay safe everybody!
Missed it due to work, so I didn't get to comment along, so here is my non-live one. You all rock, keep doing what you love, and thank you for sharing it with us, live. I know it is an extra time commitment, but much appreciated even with the chitty thumbnail
I made the dish tonight with the spinach and rice. It’s a keeper and is going into the winter rotation. Used the chicken broth too. Very good comfort food.
Seems to me the thumbnail just about matches the price of admission. I still appreciate the heck out of what ever y'all have to offer, thumbnail pics and all.
Alton and Elizabeth!! I will pay for any service you two move to if y'all do. I love watching QQ!! And all of your cooking shows I enjoy watching, I have almost ALL of your books, the Good Eats 4 volumes, Everyday Cook, and your utensils and appliances book. Please let us know if y'all go to a service!!
Alton and Elizabeth, I never get to watch live shows as I work afternoons, but I'm a HUGE QQ FAN! I'm watching QQ on my TV on my firestick and that doesn't let me comment. So I logged on u tube on my phone to tell you guys, I WILL WATCH YOU ON ANY PLATFORM!!! I love every thing I've seen you in. Good eats inspired me to cook More, because you explained the "why" to the instructions. Any platform you choose, I'll watch. I'm excited to come home from work on Tues (technically Wednesday, I'm off at 12:30am lol) to get to become a part of your life n home n have dinner and a drink with you guys. You're funny, entertaining, relevant. I look forward to any and all future content you guys create! OK, back to the show. (only 15 minutes left!) Oh, and Alton, I Love when the show runs over, no need to worry about how long you've been on! Unless you have other plans lol! Big fan, can't wait for next week!
Love love, nothing but love for inviting us into your home. As most homes, its funny and full of love. And sometimes the viniager. Much much love to Guillermo, dang if that littlest dog doesn't fit right in. Love Elizabeth s insta.
Absolutely love and look forward to seeing your shows. This is the next thing in television, unscripted and real . Unfortunately the sponsors and networks have not yet found you. I read a article about your Blue Apron Box episode, they had a accurate and raving review for it. Keep the faith and ignore the haters!
Keep doing the Netflix thing. It's accessible. also the quality of content you provide on your RU-vid channel is far beyond some of the trash available for free. Elizabeth, I'm sorry you had a rough time with your tooth pulling. I'm glad you've recovered! Looking forward to the episodes from the road!
i will watch any show with you two interacting together. This is why I watch the show to learn about cooking and to see you guys together. maybe add some guests ( i would love to be one ) haha to cook with.
Sweet potatoes are not nightshades. Regular potatoes are a nightshade. I have to be on a strict AIP diet, and I am allowed the sweet potato, not the reg potato.
I purchased the same brand of red curry paste today so I really enjoyed your recipe. There are a few more people in our household, so my version may have more vegetables. You two supply a lot of laughs and we get to see how real you are. We swear a lot, too.
INGREDIENTS: 3 tbsp olive oil 2 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 3/4 inch cubes 1 medium yellow onion, chopped 3 tbsp red curry paste 3 garlic cloves, minced 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, grated 1 red chile, seeds and ribs removed and minced 1 tsp ground turmeric 1 cup red lentils, rinsed 4 cups low sodium vegetable broth 2 tsp salt (or as needed) 1 can coconut milk 1 bag baby spinach juice of 1/2 lime cilantro for garnish STEPS: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat in a pot or dutch oven. Add the sweet potato cubes and cook, stirring occasionally, until browned all over. Transfer the potatoes to a plate and set aside. Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the pot and lower the heat slightly. Add the onions and cook until translucent. Add the curry paste, garlic, ginger, chile and turmeric and cook until fragrant Add the lentils, stock, salt and browned sweet potatoes to the pot and bring to boil over high heat. Lower the heat and simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the lentils are just tender, 20 to 25 minutes Add the coconut milk and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has reduced and the lentils are creamy, 15 to 20 minutes Add the spinach and stir until just wilted, 2 to 3 minutes. Take the pan off heat and stir in the lime juice and salt if desired Garnish with cilantro.
Netflix or Amazon. Adult Good Eats would be fun. Real life cooking is amazing, love watching the REAL life dealing with how you guys deal with all those things that come up. No spinach, fires… ha! Sharing your great ideas on the go.
Been doing similar in a rice cooker(on porridge mode). Rice, lentils, salt, pepper, caramelized veggies, sometimes meat. Delicious and affordable. One of those things I will often get started the night before then wake up to a rice cooker full for breakfast and the rest of the day.
Omg. I remember being drilled on regularly fiddling with the jiggly thingy on a pressure cooker because it might otherwise explode, back in the 1950s. I never realized there was a previous, more reliable, generation of them.
Those explosions were serious business. Even being too impatient could be quite dangerous! Force off the pressure cooker lid before the float valve has dropped, and you could be in for a serious world of hurt. I’ve an old 23-at canning pressure cooker. It has a dial, not a float. When I first used it, the dial was not calibrated. Did you know that those lids can become airborne, high-velocity, heavy projectiles? Then there’s a question of high-pressure steam on skin. Don’t be like me! 😆 I cannot recommend enough that people fully check out their used equipment before use. Also, in the US contact the local extension office for pressure canning classes.
That will learn gearmo night time surprise😁. Laughing my ass off. Love y'all's show laughs cooking education I am hooked on qq. Alton you are gold screw food network you deserve better than that you worked your ass off for them. Praying you find a new spot because the years I watched you u are fine cheese. Now that I found you and Elizabeth damn y'all are addicting.
Hi QQ Gang! Inspired by the Red Curry Lentil dish that A&E made on Tuesday night, I went ahead and made it as well tonight. I gotta tell you, it is delicious!! So rich and creamy. The Red curry paste and the coconut milk and sweet potatoes and lentils all come together really nicely with a ton of flavor to boot. I had some fresh kale handy, so I used that instead of spinach, I just added it earlier than I would have added the spinach (when putting in the coconut milk). All I could find pepper wise was a jalapeno, and unless you are completely hot adverse, I think a slightly hotter pepper would add a little additional zip. Really really good though. Give it a try!
Netflix & Prime here. For a show, just the food and the way you explain it. I'd be happy to see you in the educational role, like good eats. Wouldn't need to be like your youtube videos. I do enjoy watching the recipes come together. btw, I thought you were going to mention cumin. ;) Thank you.
I was once in the next room when a pressure cooker full of pea soup exploded, sounding like a space shuttle taking off and perfectly uniformly coating the entire room, including the ceiling, with said soup. It left an emotional scar that makes me unable to be in the same room as one without throwing up my arms and yelling "We're goin' ta meet JEE-sus!"
Alton, you asked what streaming service I would use to watch you. Well. I am retired and on a limited fixed income. I don't pay for anything on the internet other than my ISP. I understand that you need an income stream but, as much as I enjoy seeing you and Elizabeth, I won't be paying $ for it. Hope you find a niche that works for you.
I would love to see you continue doing this show for the foreseeable future. A suggestion to change maybe 1 show a month; have a guest or 2. Friends and/or family. And basically the same idea for a network show where you just hang out with friends shooting the shit while you cook a meal, your place or theirs. Maybe mix in a little interviewing of the guest. Keep it adult oriented.
Alton should get a Prestige pressure cooker, possibly India's #1 brand of pressure cookers.... they're sturdy, simple and have none of those complicated locks and devices... the steam pressure is the lock
If you did a new “Good Eats” type show I’d vote for Netflix, also is you can find a place Guy hasn’t been to I’d love a “Feasting on Asphalt” type show
I like Netflix or Prime for streaming. I do use Discovery+ for OG Good Eats. As long as it's available to stream. I haven't paid for cable in years and I do not miss it.
The only suggestion that I can think of is to get a Patreon account and link it to youtube. I know "Sorted" has been making food shows for over 10 years in Britain and that is how they have been doing it.
While I still watch the food network most of the cooking competition is lame. I do like "The Kitchen" where they actually make food I can get inspired to make at home. Why not do "Great Eats" I love the science.
Iron Chef, Cut Throat Kitchen and Good Eats!!!!!! And You Tube, cause that's all I use. But there is really good channels like AWP, Heavy D Sparkes, etc who can give good info how to build You Tube . Oh yes, for cooking Sam the cooking guy and Chef Jean Pierre.
