In this installment of teardowns we take a close look at the QSC KSub! Please remember to subscribe and click that bell icon to keep up to date on all our videos! Check us out on Facebook and Instagram!
In a bandpass system it is critical that it be sealed up for the speakers movement to work correctly... The band pass will actually control how far the voice coil will go in and out of the magnet Gap.. Absolutely essential.. when you change the air inside the Box taking out the amplifier you completely change the frequency response and how the speakers move.
I do enjoy the videos and its cool what you do. Watching you take out the screws on every speaker gets a little old, and not sure how information that gives the viewer. I guess we can always fast forward the video and skip that part.
Another great vid. The box design is really compact for 2 12s. But I agree QSC wants to much for it over close to 1500$ I’ll pass. I’ll get get a yorkville instead 😅
If you calculate the surface area of 2 two 12's on the net it would result to a cone area little bit smaller to a 18 inch woofer(almost equivalent). 2 15's have little bit more cone area than one 21 inch cone but not by much almost équivalent.
If the 12” and the 24” have the same proportion in all dimensions (L,W,H) then you need 8, not 2, if the excursion is the same, then you have similarity in length and height, so you need 4
Hey guys! Great stuff, I did have both the KSUB and the KS212C. I had the new version first and liked it because it was compact and it did hit pretty hard, a little less harder than the KW181. (I wanted something light and road worthy) I then sold my KS212Cs and upgraded to the KS118s (used to have the kw181s which rocked) for my big parties. I wanted a smaller compact sub for my house parties so I purchased the KSUB at a discount from a friend. As your friend states on film I noticed the same. The sub sounds muddy when it get pushed hard, kinda sounds like it’s distorting. I sold my KSub for that reason I was not very impressed I did like the KS212 way better. Which sub would you recommend? Compact that hits harder than the KSub and less than the ks118 and potable? A 15 possibly thanks!
The point where we think QSC could have done better would be box choice. We think the dual 12s wouldve done better being tuned to 35-40hz rather than 44hz and up. Meaning a simple bass reflex wouldve sufficed but then again that would mean increasing the boxes volume which wouldnt make it compact anymore. So it's a trade off that's for sure. You made the right choice.
Check back shortly, youtube does a layered upload. Starts at low quality and works it's way up. I'm hoping the intro comes in abit better once it's been later in the day.
Max volume is very subjective due to input gain levels. Qsc's clip limiters are pretty good at mitigating damage but alas, I have toasted 2 woofers over the last 10 years.
I've used Ksub's on a few occasions. Not impressed. Out door they are horrible. Driver distortion before clipping and is very audible. Indoor if you can couple with a corner/wall they are almost acceptable.
We didnt test it outdoors but I could definitely see this sub reaching its limits quickly outdoors. It really is intended for 40hz and up so to use it for true low end duty would leave you wanting more.
@@2DudesAudio I just did the same outdoor haloween gig from a year ago (previously using 2 ksub's) but this time used a 4.5ft^3 ported box with a single 15" RSS390HO-4 and 800 watts tuned to 30hz. Literally 2x the bass, zero distortion and played way lower. So a single 15" high throw ported sub absolutely killed 2 ksubs. Ksubs are too small for a bandpass and the drivers are too weak.
