@@Flourikum The acceleration is very slow and the deadzones are huge (it's like 30% instead of the 10% or 15% in most games) With no options to change them. You can only change sensitivity, aim assist, and vibration.
I've always been interested in Nintendo's old days in the 80s/90s and 2000s with fallout so retro games or old style RPGs are my thing. But when I tried the DOOM games in 2020 and can say it's my favorite shooter of all time I'll support quake and judge it as another game and not DOOM because there both made by the same company
@@yasniellopez9690 Hey question is that a problem in the remaster or has that been a problem since the 90s, because I played the game even before the remaster and it feels the same , and if it's the latter and your saying that it has been a problem since the 90s, I don't necessarily understand why the controls feel bad since the controls in Quake have always been the best thing about Quake in my opinion.

Though I've never played Quake and started my DOOM journey in 2020 I can say that DOOM2016 did take a different approach with the reboot as the designs were less colorful I should say and more dark and hellish horror but DOOM Eternal stuck true to DOOM1 and DOOM2 with there character designs while bringing new combat features and animations with a more visual story telling besides beating a chapter and reading its dialogue.
We need it. But you know the making big remakes takes time? Like A LOT OF TIME. And id software just ended making doom eternal and maybe quake remake is in very early process of production. Maybe.
We dont want re-introduced rules like glory kills or anything senseless or rule breaking, just plain old quake with new fresh paint, an ode to glory days and an swansong of actual arena fps, i wish i could be there to design these games
I'm hoping this is to raise awareness and keep us happy while a total remaster with up-to-date graphics and models is being created. Doom Eternal is an absolutely GORGEOUSLY rendered game, whether the content is beautiful or terrifying or not, and I want to see Quake remastered with THAT level of visual and world detail. Or even go beyond it. In fact, Doom Eternal has left every other game developer curled up in the closet and babbling to himself. They know they just got shat upon and aren't yet able to match the sumptuous evil glory of the Doom Eternal world. Id Software reigns supreme.
@@Turboy65 we can't have that level of graphics in a boomer shooter because you could only have 8 enemies max per level. doom eternal spawned enemies in 1 group at a time it did not have level design or enemy placement. only hordes
This is amazing. Professionally made for new systems, texturing, music is back, new stuff, easy to use mod manager, CO-OP. I don't see why people are disappointed. Seems like the release of the year for me. The Quake 1 world is so open that a remake or true sequel won't be too hard to come up with. And clearly this is to test the waters ($$$$). Get this = get a new Quake game in 2 years.
A huge amount of what made Quake Quake came from the community, from mods to open source to ports. If Id are going in this direction then they should really be giving back, but it sounds like they're cashing in on the retro shooter wave. There's no mention of open source, there's no mention of new tools, no mention of compatibility with the open Quake engines. This could be a Blizzard move right here.

I'm saying that at best it asks the question "what does Quake look like as a modern retro shooter" as opposed to "how do we add to the legacy of Quake", and at worst it seeks to pull in and monetise the community work (I'll note that they haven't said they'll do this, but this f**king industry man, you never know).
On dial up the first multiplayer game I played was Duke Nukem 3D. Amazing. Tried Quake and later Quake World and both the ping times were unplayable for me. On LAN at work was amazing tho.
Dude... You are going to LOVE IT! I'm so glad that they did this. Doing so is going to introduce SOOOOO many people to a game which has its DNA sprinkled throughout MOST FPS games. Hell, there are still a lot of games that still have parts of this games code, HL2 HL Alyx, the WHOLE COD franchise. There was a while there in the late 90s early 2000s where the idtech3 engine was as popular as UE4 is now. I'm excited for you :) I wish I could experience Quake for the first time again.

Downloaded a demo of this back in 1995 / 1996 and couldn't run it because my computer was crap. Now I can play it with ease on a handheld Nintendo system. What a world we live in 😂
I guess when I heard that Quake was getting remastered, I guess I imagine it with more modern graphics, but I'm honestly not disappointed. Great game, will definitely replay it anytime!
This looks awesome. Quake was a seminal and influential release in its day. It's great to finally see it get a full conversion to consoles with improvements.
Happy to see this back, but not feeling the love of what they did with Doom and full remake. Was hoping for a new remake, but at least we get to hear that sweet Trent Reznor music again.
On one hand, I can see where you're coming from. On the other, I am just thankful that the game is being modernized. It's only $10, and it includes everything. It's cross play. There's truly not a lot to criticize here. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" and all that :)
@@P-Nello Also, if you've already bought Quake on Steam, it's a free update. 25 years after its release. This is great compared to how a lot of publishers republish their 'remasters' so everyone has to buy it again.

That's something I can't understand so it said local and online split screen. Will we be seeing other player screens as if they were at home with there controllers plugged in or something? EDIT- I played the online sorry for the misunderstanding and stupidity.

when watching the trailer earlier today, as soon as I saw "Out Now", I made a new tab and bought it. I freaking love Quake. It's the first game I ever bought with my own money, back in 1996 when I was 14. Every corner, Every sound bite, is pure nostalgia and reminds me of good times.
Loving the game...absolutlely the best console Quake ever released... like unbelievable to have all mission packs and content and 4 player split screen coop and deathmatch. Would love to see team deathmatch and Hoping hard Threewave CTF gets added to the addons list... i mean if clan ring, rocket arena, rune quake, team fortress make it ill be happy too but really hoping for threewave ctf, even if its just the quake assets threewave with no custom stuff. if custom bot waypoints are added for other maps too later would be stellar. Custom maps being allowed would be really nice too. We pulled an all-nighter playing oldschool deathmatch last night and it was the most fun in a really long time. Love cross play for other consoles too. Such Fantastic work. Such a MUST HAVE

Personally I'm a Quake II girl but Quake I is awesome too and hopefully this gets us closer to a Quake II remaster (which would kill me.) I'm so freaking excited! This is literally my childhood.

This is great. Good to see Deathmatch shooters coming back. When multiplayer shooters took actual skill and you couldn't sit in a corner camping for killstreaks thinking you were good.
for people asking for an update or reimagined version of quake, I doubt rezner's soundtrack would be allowed to be ported to another version, I think they were trying to work with the original soundtrack, as great as the game is the soundtrack is just as much a part of this thing I'm glad they'll be releasing an update of this
I’m downloading the original Quake right now. I’ve been in love with the past two Doom games, and I’ve played a little bit of the first two. I’m very excited.
Oh yeah! Gonna load this up and play after breakfast. Such memories from those days. Chomping at the bit to get my fingers on QTest. Running out to CompUSA to buy it on launch day. Then when QuakeSpy came out the MP was off the chain!
Quake is a game that has such a rich art to it that I'd venture to say it's barely been met by any other game since. Quake was meant to evoke true emotional dread, and it does that well. It's a Lovecraftian-inspired work of art that ripped the company apart internally during development. It's iD's Citizen Kane. While most know iD for Doom, which is it's own triumph of gaming history, Quake is that silent work of passion that the team at iD poured their life, soul, and wits-end into.
The fact that they dug up the old source files for the audio and remastered it is a very appreciated touch. The original audio is just about at the bottom end of passable these days. I'm not counting the sound track, and as far as I know that was always in CD quality, anyways (correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you actually pop the original Quake CD into a CD player and just listen to the sound track?) But even then, if they have original masters of the Quake sound track then it might be nice to have a higher quality version. Though, honestly, Reznor's original sound track is so heavily distorted that I'm not sure if it would make a difference, or even possibly make it worse. We'll see. I'm glad they left mod support in. Though, honestly, I suspect that they did not have any choice but to let mods be supported, seeing as how Carmack released the source code under an open source license. It's under GPL, now, which means that you start running into some big problems if you start trying to re-restrict your original code after the fact (as in, I'm pretty sure it's just flat-out impossible). Maybe they re-wrote the engine from scratch, who knows. It's not like re-writing the Quake engine would be that hard nowadays, what with OpenGL and Vulkan. Or, doesn't Night Dive have their own engine that's written specifically to be easy to modify to run retro game content? Anyways, probably just not worth anyone's time to restrict it, now, especially considering that their biggest customers are going to be oldschool hardcore Quake fans who they know would probably boycott the game if they locked it down. Plus, I mean, Bethesda, for all their flaws, has always been _very_ open to modding and are a company that understands more than anyone _except probably id_ how much mods can turn a game from a seasonal fad into a decades-lasting internet subculture. Speaking of which, _where the fuck is the Doom Eternal modding support?_ Where is our SDK, goddamnit!? Eternal will not be _eternal_ if the fans can't keep juicing the game with new content! Extend this love of mod support to the lineage of the game _that fucking invented modding._ Wolf doesn't count, Wolf started getting modded as a side-effect and it was unexpected when the id boys started noticing custom maps being shared on BBS. _Doom_ was the first game with modding support actually taken into consideration and coded for during development. Quake is arguably the one that truly opened it up, but a lot of that is just the nature of 3D vs 2.5D, needing to hard-code more in the Doom engine just to make the fucker run on PCs of the time, and also just plain experience. Doom is what started it. And I get that Doom 2016 _can't_ really have TRUE modding support, because megatextures, but Doom Eternal dropped megatextures for good (thank God), so wheeeere is our modding support?
God damn. I played Quake just a bit when I was a kid, I thought it was awesome but never got to play it again in like last 20+ years. I bought Quake last week and oh man, I love this game even more now!
back in the mid 90s i used to play this all the time on a service called Mplayer. was soo much fun back then. and yes i got this remastered. Doom was the start. Quake defined FPS games

Why would they? It was mostly Generation X (born 1965 to 1979) that mostly played this. The youngest baby boomers were already 32 yo when this released, and in 1996 that was a small minority of gamers.

You get Quake 64, the original Trent OST, two newer episodes from Machine Games. It plays and looks great. Just because it's a remaster of the original doesn't mean it's dissapointing
Looks like an oldschool fun thing to do , setting up splitscreens, getting people who never did or played this long time ago to play together, even at public events. It's not that I would spend money on it, I don't support remasters or money waste, but for this I would support it.
It doesn't entirely look like the Epsilon version though. I loved that version. But i'm totally fine with this. It has both the look of the OG and Darkplaces
This is awesome. I'll get it. I've spent MANY hours playing the original. But what I REALLY want is a fully reimagined Quake. Look at it this way: Quake, developed in the mid 1990s, was the game that was made to preserve the adventures of the Quake team when they actually visited the Quake universe. They used the computer technology available to them at the time to represent their nightmarish experiences for others to enjoy and have their pants scared off. But the technology was limited and looks very dated. What I want to see, is for them to completely remake their chronology using the state of the art graphical and gameplay capacity they brought to us recently with Doom Eternal. Reworking the original to run on a modern machine IS awesome, but what I really want is a COMPLETE remaster, with all the artwork, all the monsters, all the character, all the models, remade to be more like they would actually be in the Quake dimensions. If Quake had been conceived and developed from the ground up in 2021, after the development team visits the Quake dimension and somehow survives to return and then programs what they saw, what they heard, and what they experienced as a game.

Why are people praising them for cooking soup on a 25 year old title? Give us a modern implementation, like Quake 5 or a reboot of the game, as the one we have seen with DOOM. This is just pathetic...
I am very hyped about this, I played this so long ago and watching that is getting some love is awesome, keeping the old style is also something I appreciate. Though... honestly, I would love to see a reboot of this series with new graphics as well, just like what happened with doom 2016 and eternal. Don't get me wrong, this thing right here is amazing! Definitely gonna buy it.
Loved Quake. The NIN soundtrack, the first true 3D game. Making my own maps with "Worldcraft" (which Valve then bought and some people may now know as Hammer). That said, while Quake was a better single player game, Quake 2 was a much better online multiplayer, and I hope they remaster that next. I practically lived in "The Edge" in the late 90s.
@@tobiasgerhardt7604 I don't see much of a difference. I was literally waiting for them to show the remastered version thinking they would first show the old game, until I realized that was it. It doesn't look bad mind you. I still enjoy the original quake look and feel. I just think it's low effort to release an old game without at least upgrading the graphics to modern standards.
@@Zoulz666 they improved the visuals to a point where it honestly looks really clean and crisp while still looking like Quake, I think thats enough, not to mention its actually coming to consoles and probably mobile too
I've been playing Quake since it came out. It looks like the Darkplaces source port. I'm wondering if it runs on the KEX Engine since it comes from Nightdive. At least it allows newcomers and old players alike.
The fact that they haven't said anything about releasing the source code for the engine, makes me think this is not based in any GPL version of the quake engine.
@@leonrififi3543 Afaik Vulkan is not a game engine, or a derivative of any quake engine, is a graphics API made by the OpenGL makers the Khronos Group. But perhaps, there's a quake GPL engine called Vulkan that I don't know about, any links for it?

It is surprising to see come back like this one in our times: no new fancy models, enhancements to the maps, no additions to the game-play, etc. Bravo Bethesda - this time you’ve finally did exceptionally good move. Enjoy my money on all consoles. Q is relevant as tattoo again;)
I hope later added features would be more than shaders or physics additions as level design is out-dated now as it was 25 years ago albeit Quake being the first true 3D FPS game I played. Level design was so off-related from level to level, there are few nice levels but then lots of labyrith-like nonsense going on; I truly hope nostalgia will pump me up with this one though...
