I don’t even play quake and I don’t plan to but I still find myself watching the full 17 minutes just because of how Frothy presents it. Thanks for an amazing video.
@@FrothyOmen They really are. I'm in the same situation as this man, and I enjoy your playstyle so much and find it incredibly entertaining. Your movement and aim is so nice and fluid (like most PC players, but there's just something special about yours in particular). I highly doubt that you're ever gonna see this Frothy, but if you do; I dig you man, you're one of my favorite on this platform and thanks to you I am a truly well rounded pilot, if you could say that. You could even say I'm really really good as a console player. My K/D was at 1 and slowly moving up to 1.4 for a long time in titanfall, but I've raised it pretty quick to 1.8 now and my latest 10 games are exclusively at above 3. Thank you for being an awesome and great teacher at everything.
I've spent much of my life in boxing gyms, and there's a saying that good technique leads to knockouts, and searching for knockouts leads to fatigue. Seems similar to what you were getting at about not focusing on aiming for the body with the rocket launcher even if it might look cool. Thanks for the video
As someone with a few years of delving into fps historyand trying my way through the classics, doommaybe the game I fell in love with the fastest and hardest, but quake earned a stronger respect and awe from me. Super exited about getting out of my sub zero kdr phase and starting to pull my own weight in matches. These guides are insanely helpful, and thankfully not as... unwelcoming as a lot of quake players can be to newbies, at least the ones who make content and posts. Thanks for helping out.
Thanks for the video. Finally after 4 years I got a computer that can play the game. Quake, doom, and unreal tournament has always been my favorite series.
I'm a COD Modern Warfare player but I discovered it's not really my playstyle... I mean I like it but the maps are too big, campers are everywhere and movements are slow. I like speed, people everywhere and run and gun so I immediately thought about Quake, I searched up the last Quake game and I found Champions, I went too see the price and... Wow it's free! Now it's downloading, I think this video will help me a lot
If you have the rocket launcher and the enemy has the high ground, you can use the rocket launcher to get the high ground on them, or even just get to the same level as them. With practice, you can even fire at them whilst you're in mid-air. This takes a little practice, but is extremely satisfying.
I recently got Quake champions a few days ago, and I love it. Sure I get my butt handed to me at times but Im glad I stumbled onto this channel. Hope to see more guides!
hey, after getting into the game with your vid, been playing for maybe 4 or 5 weeks now, i would love to see videos on the nailgun and tribolt, specifically i want to improve at the nailgun, so i can really take advantage of that 200 potential dps
I just realize something. Can you show some advanced movement tricks & tips? Specifically for Slash and Clutch? I see that you're pretty good at sliding with Slash. I have no idea how you do those long slides with Slash. For me, she just slides 3 feet and slows down. I'm not sure if I'm using her correctly. As for Clutch, how are you zipping across the map like that?!
Weirdly enough I've had much much more challenges with the shotguns that the nailgun or a tri-bolt. Nailgun was one of my favorite ones from the start (if I haven't got a lightning gun or a rocket launcher yet), it just does a crazy amount of damage at different ranges which is brilliant. Yes, the projectiles are somewhat wacky and weird at the times and it really is a plasmagun from q3 at the times so one has to be careful with the walls and close ranges. Otherwise its just great and pretty intuitive :)
I loved Doom and the old unreal tournament games so this doesn't feel completely alien to me but the skill cap in quake is something I'm just now beginning to respect, hopefully I can win a 1v1 against someone who knows what they're doing someday.
I use the shotty/supershotty largely. It's just fun and satisfying. Also, as with your video about being new being hard, I find it surprising you recommend TDM, FFA is TDM but more fun in pubs because you can fight anyone rather than half the people, and there's no team coordination to speak of anyway.
1. The tribolt is a substitute to the grenade launcher from quake 3 arena and it should be used in the same way: To stop the enemy from entering a certain area. 2. Where is the railgun?
have been very excited to see a new quake game. sadly my computer is a potato, so I am pretty sure I can't play Quake Champions. but it looks fantastic!
For a game that's in it's alpha stage. This game knocks the optimization out of the park. I had NO idea that it'd run so smoothly on a very old GPU on a laptop. I couldn't run Overwatch on this machine. If you can play Paladins, this should also work. Just give it a try. These guys really know their craft.
This looks like a lot of fun actually, I will definitely download it when it is available for free outside of the bethesda launcher, because that thing has autostart wich cannot be disabled and severely hurts FPS in any game. Killing it via the task manager every time I boot my PC is not worth it.
Have you tried opening the "startup" tab in your task manager and disabling the bethesda launcher from there? That's usually pretty foolproof. Nonetheless, I hope you have fun with the game when it finally makes its f2p debut on Steam! You can get keys pretty cheap through grey markets online if you're not looking to spend all that money on it right off the bat. If you like it, pay back the difference with microtransactions!
FrothyOmen I did open the startup tab in the task manager and it did not show up. I also checked the autostart folder manually and there is no shortcut to the launcher wich means it is likely using an exploit or windows is screwing up as usual. I will definitely try to get a cheap steam key, thank you for the info!
Aye, as Quake is free currently I'm going to finally start playing it. I have been playing Team Fortress 2 for the past 5 and half years, clocking in over 3100 hours atm, so I have experience with how to use certain weapons in an effective manner. The concept of a nail gun sounds brilliant for me even if it might be tad harder to grasp than your typical hitscan weapon. Is it a good idea to prioritize Nail gun at the start and have the Rocket launcher as a secondary priority? Or should it be the other way around? Edit: yeah nvm, now that I started playing I noticed it was super easy to pick up and I'm already pulling over 100 K/D. Thanks for the guide though.
and here i was, thinking picking up quake would be like the 1st 20 hours of TF2 all over again, where you're a gibus sniper and that one insanely skilled demo who keeps killing you seemingly out of nowhere is actually just an average player amusing himself by trying to sit on your head and call you a spy for as long as possible.
That was a nice video! One question, what you think are the best champions to start with the game? Beyond Ranger and Scalebearer? Sorry for my English hahaha
@Frothy im brand new and at 6 minutes when you talk about the tribolt you go into a room where youre shooting balloons with it, where is that at or how do i do that? i've searched all over the game it seems
How do you get these ups boost all the time? If I walk normally, iam around 300 ups fast...how you increase this nearly every second to 400-600? (Iam completly new in Quake)
I've got some movement guides on my channel that will answer this question in great detail, and teach you how to do it yourself! Look up my guide on strafe jumping and circle jumping :) I'm on mobile right now, otherwise I'd link you to them myself. I hope that video helps you!
I feel the same but I think it's because the plasma spheres are bigger and easier to track, so it's easier to notice by how much you are missing the target.
I was watching, then at the end you said learn their individual hotkeys... "Smacks forehead" I've been playing with scroll wheel only and wondered how people were so good at scrolling through their weapons so quick....
question: i never once see you rocket jump in this, is that not a thing? as an avid tf2 (as in team fortress 2) player i was under the impression that rocket jumping was a thing we got from quake, that in quake you either git gud or get rekt when it comes to blast jumping, that it (together with a PHD in geometry and perfect railgun acuracy) was to quake what the butterfly knife is to the spy in tf2.
Rocket jumping is absolutely a thing in this game but it's really not necessary in TDM most of the time. I only ever really do it in duel and sacrifice if I need to get somewhere crazy fast or if I'm chasing down a kill.
is it wrong that i prefer tri bolt above machine gun? i just like to not aim derectly but a little bit ahead of the enemy and on top i get an insane ammount of dmg :)
The qc railgun has been really difficult for me to get used to. In q2 and q3, the slugs felt like they were shooting instantly. In qc, it feels like there's some sort of slight delay, sort of like the rocket launcher in q2 or Mei's icicle shot in overwatch.😕
The qc railgun has no delay before firing, and is a hitscan weapon. If it feels like there is delay, you need to make sure your setup is not introducing input lag. Turn off vsync, play in full screen mode at low graphics settings, make sure you are getting well above 60fps
I use w,a,s,d for movement . Q= rocket E= lg R= rail F= mg/hmg V= sg/ssg c= nail/snail x= tribolt ability= mouse 5 pummel/gauntlets= mouse 4 but you can use whatever you want as long as you get confortable reaching your key while moving
S4lt&Vin3g4r cheers. Need to get back on quake. Enjoyed in the closed beta. Benn playing unreal 4 alpha, wish it would pick population, but probably gonna jump on quake while it's still hot.
Whats the difference in between quake champions pack and quake champions pack upgrade? Do i need to have the champions pack to get the champions pack upgrade?
i imagine the quake champions pack is the game + champions pack. The other one, Champions upgrade pack would be to unlock all the champions if you bought the "starter" edition (which is about 5$, you get acces to the game and scalebearer i believe)
just curious. the weapons make sound when you have it equipped? or when I'm using it? for lightning gun you said don't hold it because of noise. you meant for shooting?
No, it makes noise when you just hold it in your hands. Same with Lightning gun. Don't hold them out in duel unless you're sure you're OK making that noise.
Good tips. Coming from Unreal Tournament, I can't believe how weak the weapons are in QC. Such beautiful graphics, maps, skins and music but horribly dismal weapons. What a disappointment.
I tried the game, it was fun at the free trrial/ giveaway with other beginners. But know there are only the uber-freaks. The entry point for a new player is to high and frustrating. You can't get better if you die every 2 meters. So i quit. And waiting for the next free trial, when the game can be fun again.
