Awww yeah, typical Quake. You strafe from mega to red (in this case mega to heavy) while everyone else is suiciding into rocket/yellow somewhere on the other side of the map x) Without the old 200 max hp/armor cap it seems ridiculously easy to die from a pair of stray shots, not mentioning the Quad 3 bullet kill. What are your thoughts on this, Zy?

Finally got to play last night for several hours and I absolutely LOVE it. I've been wanting another quake arena game for YEARS now. I actually like the champions addition. To me it adds another level of depth to combat which is good. I see some balance concerns but I am confident they can be addressed over time without issue. I will most certainly be purchasing the full game.

Thanks a lot for this video! I've been struggling against the vets and now I have a better idea of why I can land 2x100dmg rail hits and still end up losing the fight xD ... Look forward to more QC vids. Maybe you can do one on movement? For example, I can strafe and circle jump, but I'm not sure how bunny hopping works (Sorlag passive). Cheers!

Excellent video demonstrating Sarnath's horrible map layout with mega and super way too close to one another. Also excellent job showing just how stupid zoom damage can be. 48 damage per-shot HMG with quad. The basics you're showing are great and all but my god this map is terrible. They even put an LG in a place that fits into a rotation between the two important pick-ups. Unreal.

Good video. This is super important. I started really hammering mega/big timings the last couple weeks and it's made a HUGE difference. Because of this I tend to have the best KDR and average life time in the match. It's amazing how many people don't even pick up these items if I miss my timing, I've seen it linger for 30 seconds or longer. Also it looks like you're favoring Nyx as well. :)

This is what I don't like about this game. Imo if the game has to have a strategic objective, around which the match is focused, it should be more defiend. The assault mode in Unreal Tournament felt like one. In Quake, camping the fucking armor/health pick up as a core strategic task the whole match; just feels, looks, and sounds like a joke.

I've never liked the lightning gun... I mean I used it almost constantly in QL etc but I just don't actually physically like it xD it feels like im playing ghostbusters lol I kinda wish they had added something new worth using more or as much as the LG just to change it up a little haha

Doing gods work man! The 3rd test brought in a noticeable amount of Quake noobs and since there is not tutorial, a lot of them get frustrated quickly and quit. I will do what I can to get this video spread around to the new players. Keep it up man!

I was born 01, so I never really played quake. I absolutely love the game now and your tutorials have helped me a lot! (I'm sure my 1700 hours of tf2 also played a role in my early success)

The new timings really confused me at first. Those extra 5 seconds waiting for the armor felt like ages haha. Congrats on the media key, you really deserve it and your videos will be great for the community. Keep up the great work!

3 ranked vs 4 nubs = slaughter. 3 players will have more kills because they have more targets. but it's agreed vets will have an advantage knowing this tactic is a golden rule

How do you feel the duel mode? i liked but don't enterily feel comfortable with the balance of the champions, anarki crushed me so hard.

So you use right click to zoom? I only usually zoom with railgun, what's your mouse dpi and in game sensitivity? Been playing around with new dpi and sens, currently running 400 dpi with 1 in game sens

Thank you for providing some help with Quake Champions. I am one of those newer players to Quake (although I did play the original Quake, but it is only recently that I have got into multiplayer gaming). I got into Doom 2016 last year and started to get a little better at it, but still struggled to reach a good enough level to be competitive. Controlling the mega health and armor could apply to Doom to with the Demon Rune and High Powered Weapons. The gameplay in your video is very smooth and seeing your PC specs at the end is enticing me into building a new PC. I did a small upgrade to the memory 8 to 16gb and put in a 1050 NVidia graphics card which helped a little. But the monitor only runs at 60hz and there doesn't seem to be much flow in the animations. I cannot lay full blame on that though as skill plays such a huge part in this game and I need to focus on getting used to the weapons (which I have struggled with and your other video helped greatly there to) and remembering the important things, tough when you start to enter your 5th decade on the planet :-s. Love to see more videos and will certainly be checking back. Many thanks.

what do you think about the lightning gun? is the dmg output to much? tdm seems like all about lightning gun (i did not try out duel yet)

Nice to see Rocket Jump Ninja talking about the new Quake Champions, I definitely found him helpful for Quake Live. Anyway great to see the classic Quake strategy being applied to QC, the game definitely is similar in gameplay style like previous Quake games. Guess the rest of his guides will also be helpful for new players and those needing a refresher, as this was enjoyable to watch.

Zy, what do you think about rocket delay, timer, that counts up, messy blowing effects ? Nyx in duel on respawn can be killed with one rocket, laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh:laugh: Railgun is imba, played around 20 duels, who takes rail first - wins round.

Keep in mind that just because you pick up a mega health, that's not going to stop a veteran Quake player from burning through that health and killing you anyway even if they have no stack. Item timing is one part of the Quake skill set, combat skills is an entirely different part and unfortunately you can have the best timing in the world but if you get a veteran who hits 40-50% lg against you it wouldn't matter if you're 200/100 health on a tank character, you're going to die. If you are a new player and are timing items like in this video (great video btw) - don't expect to be top scoring just from that. It will give you a chance to win more fights, but combat skills is also essential because if someone tries to challenge you for the next mega health, you need to be able to kill them to get the item, so it's a two way street: item timing < = > combat skills.

Finaly they did give a media code to someone who actualy knows how to play rather than only see their absolutely retarded marketing videos showing players walk around without straffing or jumping and one hit killing everybody with anything which doesn't represent the actual gameplay at all. Keep on the tutorial videos for QC, that will be highly interesting. I just wish they would dare to say just 1 f***** word on the forums, seems like they don't give a shit about the community at all, we've being totaly ignored and kept in the unknown not knowing what bugs are they working on, what has been fixed for real or improved uppon last beta, which ideas from us did they consider or dumped, etc and we're not even being paid for it.

Nice work Zy, thanks for putting together a qucik basic TDM tutorial for beginners. I was sceptical about QC but it seems like although the champions don't really have an impact on the game at this stage it's playing pretty true to quake. Any chance of putting up some duel?

Pretty useful to help understand the principals of TDM, however, it makes me doubt if I ever want to continue to play Quake. Map knowledge, aim, timing: iterate, optimize and that's it. Hope the other gamemodes will be more to my liking.

Hey Rocket Jump Ninja, I posted this as a link on the Closed Beta forums. After I did so I thought I should let you know and I am sorry I didn't ask you if that was OK. I can delete the post if you like, but I really thought this video would be extremely helpful for new players. I wanted to get it out to people trying to understand QC or quake in general.

is there any filtering or matchmaking criteria on the public servers, so that noobs play with noobs and pros do their thing without insta-killing poor noobs like me? advice is all nice and good, but someone with an overall k/d of 5+ will always rape someone with 0.5-1.0. and constantly dying in doom and quake gets really old really fast.

I saw Your video today, got hyped about this game and opened my mail and well... Just saw that they send me a beta key. Oh my. I'm definitely going to check it out today. PS: Cheers for making great marketing around friendly community. It is all I desire in real competetive game where we can all improve instead of making high entry step for new competition.

hey thanks for doing videos like this! Just by following your advice on controlling the health and armour I went from struggling just for a neutral K:D to getting 1.7 and barely breaking a sweat and that was without even using Nyx!

How do these guys (the others Ninja is playing againts) got into the beta? I used to play every Quake game and am excited for the Q:C but no luck... yeah, hurt feelings, i know.

Looks like my days of being a big ass Sorlag with 400 health are over. Now everyone knows the secret! haha. Thanks a lot for trying to get the word out, really tho. There is such a big skill gap in quake because most of us have been at it off and on for over half our lives. We need a lot of things like this so the new community doesn't rage quit before ever learning how to play.

Man I'm excited. Been following your channel but anwhile but QL is dead in my area. With no matchmaking it was all Quake gods to the point where I couldn't improve.

I always played fps for frags, but quake is different, you play for item control. That's why I suck bad in duel, I automaticaly go for frags and ignore almost evey pickups.

So I followed what you said, didn't fight for frags and avoided unnecessary engagements. Focused on stocking up and then fighting, I ended up playing way better than before :D every time I was in a fight, I had the advantage

Good approach for newcomers ! I'd like to see a video on the duel mode and maybe a few words on champions ? As a veteran, during the 1st part of the beta, i kinda overlooked the champions and just tried to find a good fit for me and stuck with it for the time being, but i didn't anticipate a counter-pick type of duel mode so i feel kinda lost now and don't have time to grind credits to "rent" and pratice every champs.

i play quake since a year now, with friends i compleatly dominate every game, but online im not able to spawn, i dont like deathmatch , in 1v1 i always get a 17 year veteran that stomps me so hard that i brake my keyboard, i usaly tilt proof (acualy broke 2 keyboards both asus claymores) i know gun spawns and ph pa spawn, but in thos games im not able to spawn, i always get instantly killed no way to move out, and im good with movment

the game is garbage compared to Quake 3 Team arena. NO skillz just random nubs it's all about controlling the powers which wasn't the case in the old Quake.

I hope they make the spawn place of mega armor / health random ! I play to kill other players for fun ( like in CS GO ,or PUBG), the way you play it is boring .

How can anyone play like this ? Counting seconds expecting mega pickups ? The fights and the unpredictible happenings make these games awesome. With this tactic and mindset you might win more but it seems super boring.

Man every video you upload is so goddamn structured ... Very good video for starters. You try not to overwhelm us noobs. Most of the tutroial videos are just too packed und you dont know where to start. This is a great goal to begin with. Hope you make this to a series where every video focuses on just one topic of the game mechanics so we can learn it step by step and enjoy it.

Huh, so that's why my timing was always off. I thought Big Armor was 25 seconds, Mega Health was 35 like in QL.

An idea for sarge: Activated: throw some kind of explosive like a grenade belt or w/e passive: take reduced damage from rocket jumping ;)

Im really excited for this. I can see champion abilities being used very creatively when it comes to controlling the big items, like that big dude that stampedes and gibs anything in his path would clear such a good path for a teammate to pick up an item straight after

Whoah quite a few things change since May. I'm not sure I like this cursor above the character's heads, but there's gotta be a better solution than the full on red glow that they currently use to identify the opponents.

It's like your playing a completely different game, everything is so on point even with the new textures and all the new abilities. Great work as always Zy
