I ordered the NEW Speed Demon Elite 10.5:1 on crowdfunding which only cost me $60 total free shipping. I'm very impressed with the quality so far, but I don't have the experience with testing & comparing as you do. I own Steez, Zillion & Citica reels, to compare too and Kastking has the quality. Question is the durability long term now.

Just keep in mind there is more to a good reel than cast distance.

Agreed, people are definitely sleeping on some of these reels, I personally put shimano on that underdog category too, they get no hype imo and the overall, make great products.

I ran my quantum smokes all year and did the BFL and the Collins ranger trail. I beat them up and they still run like the day I bought them. Not sure what went on but I love my smokes and tours.

No way! You must be the roughest fisherman in the world on baitcasters reel's. Are you buying them on E bay used. I have used nothing but Quantum products since I started using Baitcaster's. You sound like you dont like Quantum. I get that. Not everyone likes quality products for cheap. So go buy the high dollar equipment. I will stay with Quantum reel's. Shawn

It definitely works if you do some "real" flipping. When that flippin latch is engaged as soon as you let off the thumb bar the clutch engages, no need to turn the handle.

I had an Abu Garcia I bought back in the late 80's that had the switch. I loved that for flipping and wish that was offered on lots of other reels. When flipping a jig into heavy cover, sometimes, a fish will hit the jig right after it goes into the water. the fish can get you wrapped up before you can lock the reel. Then what REEL TEST says.

@@N5KDA I still have an Ambassadeur XLT Plus with the Flipping feature. It also came with a spare spool and had a quick-change side plate that works great now. The reel is marked Fastcast on the thumb bar. I also have an XLT III Ambassadeur reel made for tossing big wood. It also uses the quick-change feature and came with two spools. I will say one thing if you can cast big Musky baits all day you must have arms like Popeye the Sailor. I also have a Quantum model 1610. It has a flipping switch and another switch that locks the spool in direct-drive enabling to back reel on fish if you chose. That’s what’s all these young pups don’t realize, is a lot of old reels had some interesting features that cost a lot to make and they stopped making them to make reels cheaper to produce. A long time ago, reels were passed down to the next generation and considered as family heirlooms. Today we live in a throwaway society. Catching a fish on one of my old rods and reels is just as fun as using new a one. Don’t worry they will figure it out when they get a little older.

@@gizmocarr3093 I looked at some old reel pics and the one I had looked like an abu garcia lite plus and the switch was small and on the crank side plate. Yep, very nice and with BUSHINGS like 13 fishing is reintroducing.

for these field tests its mostly 10lb mono

Personally, I think 14lb mono, 14lb copolymer, or 15lb flouro would make a lot more sense in these tests. And, it definitely would shake up the results, to a more accurate degree. Just an opinion. Of course, the BFS reels should be exempt from that.

With shimano you can pretty much always count on getting what you pay for. So buy what you can afford. Every time I've gone another tier up in their lineup, the difference is very significant. Buy what you can afford. Or save for A while and buy what you can't😉 all the dcs are awesome though.
