Quantum Break | Beth's Hope 

I still think we may see something in the next 5 years or so. We got announcement that Rockstar is letting Remedy use the Max Payne property recently. As they get bigger it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft came to some sort of deal on QB.

Wilder is good people!

Seriously she was probably my favorite character in the game. Hands down. How her story came full circle in the form of a greek tragedy is poetically done.

Plus it takes the fun out of life. It's the reason the first time reading a book is more exciting because we don't know what's going to happen.

Wouldn't work this way. Jesse was born and raised in Ordinary while Beth was in Riverport. Mostly just Remedy liking to have the same actors. I mean James McCaffrey is Max payne, Thomas zane and Trench.

I honestly want to see a post-Trench directorial landscape where Jesse decides to have the FBC maintain a level of transparency with the public.

Amica de Rune is now the ruling queen of tragic characters. And from the comments you gather that many feel the emotions of her tragedy weeks or months after.

Oh yeah. During the adventure guide they make a lot of references to Misery. Alan thinking that rose will lock him up and make him write. Granted this is only in the strategy guide its mentioned. I read Misery right after the adventure guide because of this. TONS of that book in AW.

I think the usual explanation for this line of thinking that the past is set but the future can be changed. However, if something in the future has already been experiencing it technically exists in that person's past so it cant be changed. Anything the individual hasn't experienced in the future can be altered. If that makes sense. I may make a video on this.

I think Beth is much better of a character than jack. Frankly I would love to see a game with her as rhe protagonist. Jack was such a flat character. I swear I will freak out if we get a sequel greenlit

@@GamingUniversityUoG yeah, and recalling back to the incident at Will's workshop, when Paul's Chronon syndrome was first triggered and Beth was killed, all three present there on that moment were exposed to massive amounts of Chronon Radiation, so there's a story precedent for Beth having become chronon active at that moment. Maybe they could use that as a plot hook to enable Jack to violate causality and save her from her fate.

Well in Beth's journal she does say she tried over and over to make changes while she was stuck in the past. Same thing with Paul. Both spent a lot of time in this and concluded it couldn't be changed because they were batting 0-100 with their attempts.

I think I might actually have a movie that fits that. It's called ARQ. I don't want to give too much away.

First time beth saw this time machine was the day she walked into it. The one at monarch was under lock and key. Jack had this corridor situation explained to him at the beginning of the game. Beth never did so she didn't know about this feature. Also the method of her coming back has nothing to do with time travel like I mentioned. Essentially the chrono radiation she went through right before her death would put her in a state of quantum superposition. While one version dies another keeps going. It is the same method Martin Hatch uses to survive death. We see this happen in the game.

In-game memo: "Parents Killed in Riverport Car Crash Article December 22, 1999 PARENTS KILLED IN BRADBURY CAR CRASH Holiday cheer is in short supply in the Riverport community of Bradbury after a tragic car crash claimed the lives of a married couple, Anthony and Kathryn Joyce. The accident took place within walking distance of the family’s front door on Princeton Street in the early afternoon. Kathryn Joyce, who was driving, lost control of their car after a collision with another vehicle and crashed into a utility pole. The other car left the scene of the accident. The Joyces were both well-known in the Bradbury area as prominent members of the community. Last year they were recognized by the mayor for their charity efforts, particularly the Riverport Multiple Sclerosis Walk they have organized every year since 1993. The couple left behind two children: the promising young physicist Dr. William Joyce and Jack Joyce (still underage). This time I was there. Car crashed exactly as it was supposed to. My presence only led it to happen as it always did." That final bit there: "My presence only led it to happen as it always did." - Meaning that her involvement was what caused the accident in the first place, creating a Causal loop where she became the causal agent of the car crash, taking the place of whoever was initially responsible. If her actions here had changed nothing, then there would be no reason for her to say that her presence had any bearing on what happened. Suppose this is what happened, that she accidentally created a Causal Loop and thus becoming the reason behind the car crash that killed the Joyce parents - That's some serious mental anguish adding to the realization that past events cannot be undone.

But how about the future? Can that be changed since it is yet to have happened? Well... The very thing Wilder is trying to prevent is actually inevitable. It's called the Big Freeze; It is the ultimate fate of the universe in which we live in. Energy is what causes the phenomenon that we've named the passing of time: "The heat death of the universe (also known as the Big Chill or Big Freeze) is a hypothesis on the ultimate fate of the universe, which suggests the universe will evolve to a state of no thermodynamic free energy and will, therefore, be unable to sustain processes that increase entropy." The only difference between our universe and the "Quantum Break" universe is that the inevitable end of time will happen considerably earlier than it is supposed to. That, to my understanding, is what CAN be changed; The when, not the if.

As for the interaction between Jack and Frozen Wilder at the end of the game; My understanding of this is that Jack hasn't learned a damn thing through all of this; Wilder specifically tells him that the past CANNOT be changed! And to "Let it go." What Jack whispers into Wilder's ear at the end shows that he is not letting it go, he is going to continue to try to change what cannot be changed. Jack REFUSING to listen to those who knows best has been an issue of his since the very beginning: He shows up to help Serene boot up the broken time machine, deliberately keeping his brother in the dark about it. If you were presented with the scenario on who to trust with regards to matters of a scientific nature/time travel, who would you listen to? Dr. William Joyce - Doctorate in Quantum-Physics, who contributed in demonstrating the existence of Chronon particles, and the Meyer-Joyce field, and who single-handedly invented and built the first EVER time machine. Or Paul Serene - Who went to business school! I'm Team William Joyce all the way cause, unlike Jack, I actually listen when people more qualified than me on a subject tries to explain something to me. So, how does it all end? With Jack accepting the proposition made by Mr. Hatch, replacing Serene as director at Monarch Solutions. Fucking idiot! In my opinion, if there is any hope at all here, it is in the hands of someone else; Director Jesse Faden. In "Control" there are a series of photographs of Faden to be found, taken of her before she arrived at the Oldest House, by the FBC while they were keeping tabs on her whereabouts. Among these photos there is one of Faden meeting with an unidentified individual who is wearing a beanie hat, a hoodie and a jacket ontop - The exact same outfit as Wilder was wearing at the end of QB. There is also a circle and a question mark written in red marker pen on the photo, drawing attention to this individual being something more than just a random person. That's all I got in terms of there being hope. Thanks for the video! Awesome and thought-provoking as always, and it's great that you're bringing some discussion and attention towards Wilder; She is a selfless hero, regardless of if her efforts turns out being all for naught.

Hatch is the very first known time travellered, predating Will inventing the time machine. Hatch's initial extreme exposure to Chronon particles was through him stumbling upon a naturally-occurring time machine in a cave somewhere in Africa, remember? As for known Chronon Disrupted Wave Function Subjects as a result of suffering extreme exposure due to being involved in Project Promenade, there's Dr. Kim, who I'm sure you would agree is nothing like Hatch: Dr. Kim is just uncontrolably violent towards anything that moves. I don't recall seeing him dying and then popping back up again. In fact... I don't remember seeing him doing anything at all, except look HORRIFYING on the surveillance camera stills. Also, if his existence is as you put it 'in a state of quantum superposition', there would be no point for Hatch to trap Kim in that holding cell in the laboratory basement, would it? It wouldn't be able to contain someone who doesn't abide by the fundemental principles of quantum mechanics, no? Gonna include a transcript of the memo where Hatch goes into detail about his past and exposure etc in the next comment. It's a bit lengthy cause boy does he LOVE to hear himself talk!

I hope they do what Rockstar just did. Allowed remedy to work with the IP. Rockstar is funding the MP 1/2 remake and once Remedy pays back that investment the rest is theirs. If they can strike a similar deal with Microsoft we are golden.

Yes that's courtney lol. Nick in this game is also the actor for Dylon Faden. Remedy has a habit of using the same actors. There is a photo in the p6 investigation area that looks like jesse and beth talking to each other. Granted it is only from behind and shows her beanie so no proof. Just a very similar look.

I dont think control will get any more DLCs. Remedy has been open about that. Maybe Control 2 though.

Really wish we could officially link them as well. Such a rich source of shenanigans for the FBC to deal with.

I really do believe they’ll keep it in mind as they go forward, even if it’s only a pocket universe with vague references. :p

I have an explanation for this discrepancy and intend to make a video on. It comes down to the observed last cannot be changed but the unseen future is open to change. 4th dimensionally speaking, things in the future can be in the past of a characters point of view which causes the confusion.

@@GamingUniversityUoG Right, but Paul and Beth's observed past includes the end of time in 2021, and that observed past is changed even though both of them are convinced it can't be. It's clear at the end of the game Jack hopes the past can be changed even after everything he's seen.

I'd recommend it. It has some odd design choices but over all its great.

Video contained massive spoilers but I absolutely recommend it. For me to this day it`s in my personal top3 games of all time. Just approach it with a proper mind - game has a huge story not only in front of you but in plenty materials scattered around. It`s not "I`m tired but I have some time to play" type of game. I actually came with that approach in 2016 and with a desire to meet plenty of story and backstory and it got delivered. I was awestruck most of the time (gameplay-wise included), completely immersed.

Who knows how Shifter's present in other universes. Considering Shawn Ashmore is showing up in Alan Wake 2 it makes me wonder.

Well jesse is her own person. The art book flat out says Alan didn't have anything to do with creating her. If anything j see Jesse as a reimagining of Samantha Wells since that character was a prototype for what eventually became Jesse.

Considering what they established in AW2 with Tim Breaker I think it is likely that the effects of becoming a shifter kind of splits them into different realities.

That's the red herring of the game. There were two events in the game that broke time. The 2nd one was the experiment. This sped up the damage. But the first one was back in time when Beth was killed. The CFR opened and was the zero point for the fracture. Monarch even calls this place the Ground Zero site.

Some version of her may be dead and another alive. Hatch dies 2 arguably 3 times in the game and is still running around.

As of now Remedy has no plans to revisit QB because Microsoft owns the IP. They will have to work out a deal with them first.

Yeah I can see the FBC labeling monarch as a para criminal organization. Probably a lower class one though. Hatch being an altered entity like Ahti or the Not-Mother. Personally, I look at it as a pocket universe set adjacent to the prime one where Alan and jesse are.

Yes, I noticed that about Jack Joyce originally being Dylan as well! I think you’re right, I think the sudden pivot to Tom being a filmmaker is going to make for some really interesting plot points.
