@@oliverconway6960 In some movies of the other Bond eras there was some references to older Bond movies like the fact that Bond was married and his wife died, that Spectre tried to kill Bond many times, that Jaws appeared in two movies as a villain, but there was never a central link betweeen those Bond movies and is more safe to assume that every actor played a different interation of James Bond with some things about the character history in common. If it was the same the same Bond since the 60's, he would be frozen in time because the world advanced until the 2020's but Bond remained young until now.

RE: unpopular opinion - I agree with you, I thought this was an excellent follow-up to what was set-up in the first movie, despite that there was a writer's strike during production and they had to shoot with an early draft and imporv whatever wasn't working. In a "happy accident" sort of way, that may be the reason the pacing was better - there was nobody to write any new dialog, so they just cut to the chase a lot (or fight or shootout or aerial combat sequence or the other chase with the boats... yeah, a LOT happens and it's a *short* movie) Most people thought it was a step down from the first one and one of the weaker Daniel Craig movies, but it does have a vocal cult of supporters. I like how we picked *right* after the first movie, like *minutes* later, and continued the story as if no time had passed. The previous movies played it fast and loose with continuity so it didn't really matter which one you started with or what order you watched them in, but it did build this loosely connected world some actual history over time. This time, it's a really tight, connected series of stories that build and develop, and I thought this was an excellent second outing, because it was different enough to let us know that each new movie will not just be another mission and another girl, but will also be the next phase of his life.

Addie, no judgement here! I understand why you connected with this one more than Casino Royale, especially since you pointed out the pace of QOS was quicker/tighter. Casino Royale started with the origins of Bond's 00-status. He had just gotten hired as 007 so they spent more time setting the stage for his part of the franchise. Also, the main section of the film was a high-stakes poker game, so you had to expect some quiet and slow parts (even though they broke the "slow" game up with very tense/exciting parts). And, you're right, starting out with Casino Royale is ambitious. If they had started with something more concise like QOS it might have gone differently but they started with a story that was more "epic", longer, and with more nuance/depth. But, it's good that you had the patience to get through the first one with open-mindedness about what might come next. In this case, you were rewarded with something more your cup of tea! That's great! We are psyched for you to go to the next level with Skyfall, Spectre, and No Time to Die! All of these are great movies! After Sean Connery, Daniel Craig is the best Bond. You are going to fall in love with this franchise! Keep going!

The song played during the credits was written by Jack White and performed by him and Alicia Keys. The great irony of this is that Jack wrote the LEGENDARY riff to Seven Nation Army, but his roommate didn't think it was any good. So, Jack tucked the riff away in case he ever got to do a Bond theme one day. Then The White Stripes released Seven Nation Army as a single from their fourth album, Elephant, and that album and that song launched them into superstardom. Five years later, Jack is asked to collaborate on an original Bond theme with Alicia Keys.

Every James bond is different. Some bonds are serious. Others played the role more humorously. Each has its good points. Daniel's bond has humor but is more serious. Addie It's too bad you didn't start at the beginning. Especially since you haven't been introduced to the longest running bond character Q. Q and his technology team create gadgets, weapons and trick cars for agents like Bond. The orginal Q actor Desmond Llewelyn became iconic and beloved in the role and was in 17 Bond movies between 1963-1999. He was tragically killed in a car accident. Q did not appear in Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace. Daniel Craig expressed concern over the character's absence, and expressed his hope that Q would return in Skyfall. Sure enough a new actor inherent the iconic role starting in Skyfall, but for the first time ever Q was now younger than Bond.

The Daniel Craig era of James Bond was a connected story where everything is tied together in one way or another. For a full understanding of the franchise as a whole, this is the pattern of James Bond: Connery, Lazenby, Connery, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, and Craig. Dalton and Craig are considered to be the actors to be the closest to the literary Bond, despite the time periods they were set in. Brosnan portrayed a post-Cold War James Bond. Made a quick quip, but was cold and calculating against his enemies. Craig, as you saw in this and Casino Royale, is the post-9/11 James Bond. The rules of the spy game changed after the end of the Cold War. To face off against a ruthless foe, one needs to be more ruthless in fighting for the safety of all. Judi Dench played M for 7 movies, beginning with Goldeneye, which I hope you make time to see along with more classic entries of this franchise.

Hey Addie, if you are enjoying these James Bond films, I would suggest that you go back to the beginning after the Daniel Craig series and then watch the classic Bonds in release order starting with Doctor No. You get a much better idea of the time periods and sensibilities of the eras in which they were produced (and it is very important that you set aside any modern points of view in order to enjoy them more - they definitely were a product of their time). There are also a few small story elements that are referenced throughout that only make sense if you watch them in order, even though they are mostly stand alone adventures. Sean Connery's "Never Say Never Again" is the only outlier in the franchise as it is not an "officially sanctioned" 007 film.

@@Gort-Marvin0Martian No. I think Timothy Dalton is closer to Fleming's Bond. Craig is too blond and too bulky. He's also too impulsive. Bond in the books had more of a film noir feel to him. Which is why Dr. No is the closest to the books in terms of tone and atmosphere. Sean Connery fit that very well, although he was more sexually active than Bond was in the books. If I were to rank the Bonds based on accuracy, it would be: 1. Timothy Dalton. 2. Sean Connery. 3. Daniel Craig. 4. Pierce Brosnan. 5. George Lazenby. 6. Roger Moore.

Never Say Never Again is in no way really "unsanctioned", it just wasn't made by Broccoli and his production company. The producer of that film had rights to the Ian Fleming book, so he was allowed to make that Bond film just as much as Broccoli was allowed to make his. They're all based on Ian Fleming's material, they're all equally "genuine" and "official" Bond-movies. And Never Say Never Again is in no way inferior to the other Bond films, in fact it's one of the top Bond movies IMO.
@dan_hitchman007
@dan_hitchman007 Год назад
@@pistonburner6448 Do you realize that NSNA is "Thunderball" with only minor changes? They couldn't even get the rights to the Bond theme. Officially, only movies sanctioned by the Fleming estate were "true" Bond films. Those were EON's Bond films. There was even a lawsuit to try and stop NSNA from being produced. It was a legal technicality that "Thunderball's" media rights were not shorn up and that allowed the film to move forward.

This is a weird one because it's got some great set pieces in it and good character chemistry especially between Bond and M. But for me it was just not memorable. James Bond, the role that introduced movie goers to Sean Connery. Personally I don't like old movies that much, so never really liked Bond movies until the 80s. Really liked the Dalton and Bronson Bond movies. Not saying anything bad about the others that portrayed Bond, just the time frame of the movies is what I like.

I'd suggest you read "Casino Royale" (1953) at some point. It's short, practically a novella. Ian Fleming also wrote the children's book: "Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang" (1964). The title "Quantum of Solace" comes from Fleming's eighth book "For Your Eyes Only" which contains five short Bond stories.

When Craig took over, I thought maybe they were finally going to knock out the rest of the Fleming-derived titles, since they started right off the bat with "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace"... but nothing since then; still no "Risico," "The Hildebrand Rarity," or "The Property of a Lady." I'm perfectly OK with them never using the pedestrian "007 in New York," though.

@@luxurybuzz3681 that's why I said in my opinion, my problem with Royal is it's pacing is all over the place for the first hour it's action scene after action scene with very little in terms of plot then when we get to the Casino it's the book adapted to perfection but the pace is slowed right down before it becomes a huge action spectical again. But that's just me, I wish I felt it was the best out of the Craig films but I'm afraid I'm team Skyfall.

I know it's not the first Bond movie to reuse a basic premise from one of the previous movies, but it's pretty much the most highly acclaimed one to do so.

Many people have trouble connecting w/ this Bond. He's too serious compared to the other Bonds. It took me 3 movies to get to like him even a little. He's not a "fun" Bond. I never connected w/ George Lazenby either. The "fun" Bonds, in order, are Roger Moore, Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Daniel Craig, & George L (can't remember too much about him, so he may be higher on the list). The "best" Bond is very subjective, but the consensus will probably show that Connery is the best. I think Brosnan is the "ideal" Bond. Moore is the most fun w/ a quite campy take w/ the humor. Dalton is a sleeper much like Brosnan, but many like others better. My fav are the Moore & Brosnan bonds as they are fun and likeable. They are the kings of cool vs the others. Do check out other Bonds Craig is very popular, but not the best Bond for everyone. That's likely Brosnan, the medium (in the middle) between fun & serious of the Bonds.

Finally one of my personal favourite bond movie. Definitely not a best one in the entire series but this one holds a special place in my heart. The only James Bond DVD that i could avail as Casino Royale was out of stock (people were always buying that😅). I watched the heck out of this movie. Numerous rewinds and forwards that the poor DVD scatched and worn out so much😅. My DVD Player too. Nostalgic memories. That DVD still today works after all those tortures. BTW, this one has the best opening for a bond movie. A deadly car chase.😁 So Gritty. Fun Fact : This movie is not liked so much because of it's choppy 🪓 editing and not so good script. But, for a movie made at the time of a WRITER'S STRIKE this movie still holds and sticks together. So, Daniels and the director has to take matter into their hands i.e., becoming a writer himself to write a movie during production and acting in it😅😅. Also, Daniel Craig has stated in numerous interviews that how the much WRITER'S STRIKE impacted this movie and how much WRITER's are important to a movie. Also, YAY !! Congratulations 👏🎉 History is Repeating Itself. Now We're at a WRITER'S Strike and hollywood studios are freaking. Let's hope we've learned our lessons from the past and hollywood studios would tame their head weighted minds so hereafter that the upcoming movies won't suffer from bad writings😅😅 Mathis Dead Scene, Camille's revenge and overcoming Childhood trauma, Bond letting go of Vesper. This movie is all about forgiveness and finding peace. Hence, the name quantum of solace. Google, 'Quantum of Solace' meaning, you'll find it. It's always a pleasure to watch this movie. ❤❤

There is a chance that Adie is doing herself a disservice by starting with the Craig films. She misses a lot of the callbacks, such as the iconic pose of Agent Fields' death. Also, regarding the pacing, Quantum of Solace is actually one of my least favorite Bond films for that very reason. It is much more of a generic action flick. Bond films are a lot more about espionage. There are meant to be those slower moments where the activity is more cerebral than physical. Because of this, there is a chance that Adie will be disappointed if/when she moves to the Connery or Moore films.

As a reader of the novels, Craig is my favorite Bond next to Timothy Dalton. That said, I'm not a fan of what the films wrap him up in. To be more precise: With the exception of Skyfall and Casino Royale, the scripts the writers handed in sucked. I get that this is supposed to be a reboot, but it's so obvious that the Bourne and Mission Impossible franchises are leeching in that it's becoming hard for Bond to be Bond. I don't come to Bond to see Jason Bourne.
